I've just read this entire thread and am none the wiser for it. I still have idea what difference it makes whether your amp is class A, B, D or X, Y, Z. Mostly a matter how heavy the damn thing is, as far as I can gather.
Neither do I know why some people can't spell dog properly, and what the dog has to do with amps, but then I've been around Basschat long enough not to let things I don't understand bother me!
The main thing that puzzles me is why people are so hung up on amps, basically just a box that you plug your bass into to make it loud enough to hear on stage. All the real power is in the PA, and no matter how much we spend and tweak to get our 'perfect tone', the audience is only going to hear the soundman's idea of perfect tone.
And for anyone who protests that they they are not going through the PA because they only play small gigs, then why do you need 800 watts?
Nailed it.

I've had a gig cancelled. I'm regularly in Swindon and always up for a challenge. Pm me

Oh now I feel better about 4! 🤓
In fairness 1 isn't working at all and one has a fault makes it unreliable for gigs and one is too small for all but small gigs so 5 gig worthy amps

I should add this is verified oomph. Any amp can produce vaguely defined heft and airily described properties like output, beef, power and headroom.
Very few have officially verified oomph.

Well I met James and relieved him of some bass gear and I can happily commend him to you all.
He's a genuine guy, a real pleasure to deal with, excellent communication and scrupulously honest.
Great to meet you mate, hope you enjoy the shift to amp free gigging.

I enjoyed a bass trade with Martin in the most salubrious of surroundings. We met in the car park of a sumptuous hotel in Stratford On Avon but the owner insisted we came inside and so we did.
Beats the dogging lay-bys and service station car parks we usually employ. Martin is honest, genial, friendly and his communication has been prompt throughout.
A pleasure to deal with you sir.

Thanks guys. I have held off from selling this for ages but as Merton suggests there is a sensible limit to how many amps one needs. I am currently at 8 so the cull has begun.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have here an Eden Nemesis amplifier. 650 Watts of FET heft, with the most responsive tone controls I've ever known. Eden owners will understand what I mean.
Oodles of oomph (and I mean oodles), massive sound and a crazy bright blue lit name which will be the envy of all who encounter it.
Annoyingly missing a knob cap otherwise beautiful to behold. These are simple to source and I might just source one for you.
If you don't want the frankly brilliantly convenient gator case / rack bag then I'll pop the amp out and reduce the price accordingly.
Do I want to post this? Well it's a bit heavy to be honest and I'm here and there gigging most weekends so happy to meet you.
I haven't pictured the light because it's dangerous to point a camera at something brighter than the sun.
Did I say you can run this at 2ohms? Because I should have.

Same here in that I prefer stage left, for the same reasons you mentioned.
We have a new keyboard player who is very good at keeping off the lower registers, perhaps because he's a bass player himself (he used to be the bass player in this band a few years ago, but family life meant he had to quit). The problem I have with him is he doesn't seem to realise that I'm not made of ether and need some physical space. Every-single-time I need to go through a whole process of showing him my gear, showing him the space he is leaving, and showing him the much larger space he has farther along. He always seems surprised, and not happy to be asked to move.
I thought that if I put my stuff in first he would get it, but no... he'd set up right against my amp. And I like to wait until the drummer is done, unless we have a big enough stage, before I set my stuff, to give him room to manoeuvre. Last weekend I arrive and the drummer is still setting up his kit. next to him, his monitor. And next, keyboard's monitor and himself. Literally no space for me. I said nothing, dumped my two cabs, head and bass case in front of him and went to get a beer, then sat there watching.
- "You're not setting up?"
- "I don't see where, so I thought I'd have a beer and watch you instead"
Still didn't get it. I sat there for 5 more minutes, chatted with a few people for a bit, and then just had to go and do the usual routine. He moved to the left and angled himself a bit, I put my stuff in, and all was good.
We have 2 weeks off now as we're going to be recording, and in two weeks we have a couple of gigs. If he learns the trick by the second one, then there's hope. If not, I am just going to either start moving things myself, or bringing a lot of extra equipment and take up all available space until he chooses to change sides
I'm so lucky with our keys guy. He's happy to set up behind me. Sharing space with my cabs usually

OK. I don't have those but have a sale agreed on a bass. If this is still here when that all goes through I'll take it off your hands

What's the bass?
I did this with a Lakland once. It wasn't an expensive instrument but was what I considered my first proper bass and had an amazing spalted maple top. I still regret selling it.
It's a Fender jazz. In fairness I'm trading it so NBD ought to assuage my grief!
-
Next time I shall play it before I put it up for sale!

Losing a bass this weekend. Did the decent thing and gave it a run through to ensure all was well.
Oh god what a beautiful neck. Oh my what a gorgeous sound. Oh hell what was I thinking. etc etc etc

Interested in any trades?
-
I use one. Not needed to use it live yet but when my shoulder injury flares it is ready to step into the breach.
I have used it for long rehearsals, and while it took a little getting used to it was nice to have no weight on my neck for a few hours.
Didn't clobber anyone with the headstock either.

Okey doke. I'm out gigging this weekend so I'll get to it asap

Ah poo. No it's not just what I'm after. Great pups KA ones. Sorry 😞
-
-
Don't sell this until I get home it could be exactly what I'm after!
-
I have a bass. It has 2 pups and 3 knobs. VVT as one might imagine. Knob 1 behaves as expected affecting the volume of pup 1. Knob 3 does its job altering tone of either pup.
Here comes the fun. Knob 2 on its own brings both pups into play simultaneously. Not just pup 2 as one might expect. To get pup 2 on its own both knobs 1 and 2 need to be up.
Help!

Was killing me but instead of relief I feel awful. Anxious, stressed, hate this so much. Something had to give I've taken on too much and this band was eating my time and feeding my stress.
Why does this never get easier?
Sorry. Needed doing and I did it. Not a discussion opener just a bit of a whine this really

Two of the very best D class amps available today?

I know my obsession with all bass gear is just that - an irrational obsession. But it's fun reading the pointy heads and those who wish they knew as much arguing the toss though!
