  1. A nice Latin groove in 7:8, this is a complete transcription of Mark Egan's bass part to the tune 'Misturada' from the 1987 Airto/Flora Purim album, 'Three Way Mirror'. Not as tricky as it sounds. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/misturada-airto-and-flora-purim/
  2. Another full album experience, this is the complete pad of Martin Briley's bass parts for the whole of the 1975 Greenslade album 'Time and Tide'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/time-and-tide-full-album-greenslade/
  3. From the 1980 Al DiMeola double album, 'Splendido Hotel', this is the Anthony Jackson bass part for the tune, 'Alien Chase On Arabian Desert'. Some trick passages and watch the movements from 4:4 to 6:8 to 4:4 to 12:8. It plays tricks on your ears and your eyes. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/alien-chase-on-arabian-desert-al-dimeola/
  4. That's a monster chart and a phenomenal amount of work. By a strange coincidence, I am currently working on an AJ transcription (Alien Chase on an Arabian Desert). His precision on these grooves is absolutely remarkable. I always wonder how much rehearsal time they get. Many thanks for your time and investment.
  5. Another from a later release of the Time and Tide album, this is tune 'Gangsters' that Dave Greeenslade wrote for the BBC TV drama of the same name. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/gangsters-greenslade/
  6. From the 1975 Greenslade album, 'Time and Tide', this is Martin Brierley's bass part to the tune 'The donkey's Ears'. An easy read and an easy play but a great bass part. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/the-asss-ears-greenslade/
  7. You are listening to the wrong bass solos....
  8. One I learned way back but never wrote down until now! 'Level Pegging' from Dave Pegg's 1983 debut solo album 'The Cocktail Cowboy Goes It Alone'. There are two basses on this piece so there are two staves on the chart. Some tricky passages but the reading helps to make sense of them. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/level-pegging-dave-pegg/
  9. Sometimes. There are many ways to make music and preparation takes many forms. Playing Jazz means you are NEVER able plan every note in advance, unless you want to look like a clown. As for playing a solo, I always just make it up as I go along.
  10. Just a head chart from the Ornette Coleman tune 'Round Trip' as played by Jaco and Pat Metheny on the guitarist's 1976 debut solo LP for ECM, 'Bright Size Life'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/round-trip-head-pat-metheny/
  11. Nearing the end of the preparation for the Panoply project but here is another chart for the tune 'Inflection Point' from the 2021 album, 'First Inversion'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/inflection-point-panoply/
  12. From the pad that I am preparing for the Panoply gig, this is the tune 'Terra Firma' from the 2019 album, 'Transcript'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/terra-firma-panoply/
  13. Another Robin Phillips bass part from the 2021 Solstice album, 'Sia', this is the tune 'Stand Up'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/stand-up-solstice/
  14. Try this.
  15. Flim has played some nice solos over the years but he really excels in the accompanying role. Check of the first three Wayne Johnson Trio albums (Arrowhead, Grasshopper and Everybody's Painting Pictures'). Great tone but really creative playing.
  16. The bass part for the tune 'Hereafter' from the 1980 recording, 'Dregs Of The Earth'. Not too difficult to play but there are a few tricky bits (bars of 9:8 with three against two crotchets etc). This is now I hear it and is by no means definitive. )https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/hereafter-the-dixie-dregs/
  17. Every time I hear this tune, I am left with a big smile on my face. This is Victoria De Angelis' bass part for the tune 'Zitti e Buoni', the winning tune from the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/zitti-e-buoni-victoria-de-angelis/
  18. Most definitely not....
  19. I haveonly heard two tunes by this band but this kid's sound keeps catching my ear.
  20. I also had a massive love for Jack Bruce, Chris Squire, Martin Brierley, John Giblin, Richard Nolan and about a million other people people. And don't forget the double bass players. Holland, Marc Johnson, Ron Carter, Paul Chambers, Reginald Veal, Christian McBride..
  21. My four horsemen were Jaco, Jeff Berlin, Jimmy Johnson and Percy Jones. The other have already been mentioned so here is Percy's iconic sound.
  22. Luminol bass transcription. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/luminol-steven-wilson/
  23. Sorry if this is getting a bit boring but here is another of the Panoply charts I have been preparing in advance of a rehearsal this coming Thursday. This is the title track from the 2018 Panoply album, 'A Walk In The Park'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/a-walk-in-the-park-panoply/
  24. I am wincing a little at the ad. 'The secret of all these great players is that they have all studied music' - no Shinola, Sherlock. 🤣
  25. Another tune from the same album, this is the track 'Five Steps To Nowhere'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/five-steps-to-nowhere-panoply/
