I agree with your heart being in a particular instrument. I tried to learn lead guitar about 10 years ago and gave up very easily. I can't put the bass down. My missues plays piano to a very high standard but it does nothing for me. Go on get him a bass!

You may find this interesting - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_qAmjVpzXs
Where the hell do that get these videos from? They focused on the bloody bongo player when the bass solo came I think he came from the Andy McKluskey school of bass playing.......just sit still FFS

Colin Grigson - Bad News - Bass Playing Legend
Bass_In_Yer_Face posted a topic in General Discussion
Recently watched the Bad News dvd's again. Hilarious. Much funnier than Spinal Tap IMHO. They sum up perfectly those mid-eighties metal bands. Rik Mayall's bass solo in the title track 'Bad News' is utter class...he just gives up at the end....lol -
I remember it and it was a good tune..and then they spoiled it all and done that awful AEIOU DJ
It's a good ring tone though! It's a funny tone he gets...it almost sounds like he's slapping a fretless or soemthing. What happens to all these guys?
-
Anyone remember this track from the early eighties? Killer bass line from a guy called Peter Maas. Totally unique tone he achieves on it as well.
-
Oh man that's a choker. I'm a big KJ fan in all their various incarnations. 49 is way too young.

Hi Guys, Struggling for ideas again for new songs to practice (intermediate). Last time I was introduced to the excellent 'Far Cry' by Rush by someone. Any ideas whatever genre that are going to push me are most welcome
I'm a beginner, and i sold my gear after getting frustrated due to living in the middle of nowhere and a frustrating lesson from an unsuitable tutor. 8 months on, I'm now shopping for more gear because, even though I am crap.... I cant live without playing. DO NOT GIVE UP.... YOU WILL ONLY REGRET IT !!! RUSS
I almost got put off by a cr@p tutor when I first started. I'm still 'hungry' as I'm learning new things all the time, but if your fed up with it then sell it I say sell it all...you'll soon know if your interested anymore because you'll end up buying new stuff.

There are certain basses that i just think look pretty sexy whoever is playing them. Here are some I've noticed The JJB Signature http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/jjpb.htm The Guy Pratt signatures Status John Taylor's favourite Aria SB1000 And my next purchase Squier
+1 - seems a pointless exercise.
not when your broke it isn't, I am selling one to finance the purchase of another otherwise I'd go out and splash £500.
Well, what would you expect from an "Expert Village" video? Famous for their ultimate "String Stretching" exercise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k7igz-Pmkw
I think the guy might be getting his jollies from jigglying the bass up and down on his lap.
Depends on your budget, but have a look at the Ibanez stuff. The SR500 is amazingly good value.
I had a GSR200 but it looks identical to the RBX170. I have a Vintage EST96 stingray copy and that is very good for the money
-
I am toying with the idea of seelling my Yamaha RBX170 as I'm fed up with it. Any suggestions for good entry level basses to replace it with?
The funk is in the fingers, the gut and the hat.
...ahh the hat, that's what i'm missing!...no wonder I can't play it.

Man that made me laugh.....i could do that withing 10 seconds of picking up a bass!
Legendary! Listen to him on 'My Love Is On Fire' from the album 'A Time to Love'. Just awesome.
Big 'ol boy isnt he ?

One of the good things about having a tutor is they introduce you to players who you would never have appeared on your musical radar. The latest piece I am struggling to master is "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder...man that's quick. I've cheated and slowed it down to about 70% of it's original speed (Amazing slow downer what a brilliant piece of software). I'm trying as hard as possible but I just can't play it that fast. So a big shout out to Nathan Watts.

Quinissential guitar shop licks...
Whenever I try out a bass in a shop I instantly forget every bassline I have ever learned
Someone once said that you have to give the perfoemance of your life while trying out gear in a guitar shop -
I rememeber somebody posted about buying a beaten up yamaha rbx270 or something for £25 and re-building it. I'm just trying to put together a collection as I enjoy playing diffrerent basses and i'd get fed up playing the same one all the time.

Has anyone ever found any real bargains in these type of glorified pawn shops. Is it worth looking in them every so often?
-
Love this bass tone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ev-h109tmk4 The bass was designed with assitance from John Taylor from the Duranies
-
How the hell do they do this? and why is someone just filming him? John Entwistle isolated bass As i've stated before, I'm not the worlds biggest Who fan but guy was just immense. Oh and this is just amazing.....I'm probably preaching to the converted here anyway John Entwistle bass solo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lecytazY6n4 mods: feel free to do your thang with this, cos it never flippin' works when I try!
