1. Can't comment on the sound characteristics of the 115 or 210 combo'c as I have the 410 combo, but can comment on the fan. It is loud but never been an issue for me.
2. Thats a shame, spent a bit of money in there when I lived in P/boro. Perhaps they've been squeezed out by all the takeaways down Lincoln rd.
3. Had our worst ever gig the other night, it was our first ever gig with this setup. An over weight guitarist and an alcoholic drummer who went AWOL just before we played, found him on the fun fair sitting on an elephant on the merry go round with a glass of wine in his hand. This happened in the second set............. Visit My Website and it all went down hill after that really. Needless to say that my good woman(singer) and myself will be looking for younger and more suitable musicians for the future.
4.
Well drink aside (as I don`t) those gigs sound great. Four of five course meal as part of the rider/payment. I think I would become very large, in a remarkably short time-span.
It is a bit of an issue here, they love to eat. Tomorrow night for example...aperitif, starter, main, dessert, cheese course and free wine all through the meal. Got to keep our drummer off the red stuff or we are in trouble.
5. Got to be careful on the woman front as mine is the singer, so won't be able to get away with much. But the food yes!!!! every gig we play out here in France is normally accompanied with four or five courses and all the drink you can get down your neck(not always a good idea when your playing).
6. I've got one, its stood up to some hefty stomping, also use the cheap footswitch for bypassing/tuner. Some of the sounds are great others are... well just pointless. Have mine set on some kind of vintage rock type sound with a hint of valve distortion kind of noise, and playing loud rock with my Thunderbird sounds good. The usb side of things I have tried but have never had enough time to sit down and get to grips with it
7.
That's the joy of getting the separate amp and cab or even the two cabs like a 2x10 and a 1x15 or two 1x12
It was cheap, I just couldn't leave it there, I had to buy it. Its not too bad really as I am a fairly big bloke. And remember your weetabix in the morning, its not too heavy
8. Looks like I opened a can of worms here, but a good debate none the less. From what I gather reading all the comments the Mag 115 cab could possibly give a boomy bottom end and the Peavey 115 cab come to that. So adding the Mag410 cab could be the answer to a bit of extra grunt when playing outside and bigger than normal venues (not going to carry that lot around everywhere) I understand that the 4 10's will push more air. The speakers in the combo must be running at 8ohms (trying to get it right in my head) so adding an 8ohm cab will have the amp running at 4ohms. All good stuff, you are enlightening me on a lot of variables.
9. Right that settles it then, another 410 cab it is. Once I sell some more bits off my bike. Thanks again for the replies.
10. Looking at the Ashdown 410 cab which is 8ohm, its 450 watt is the amp going to have the guts to run it. the cab ashdown recommend is only 250 watts.
11. I just got a Mag 410 combo and for what I paid €399 new and delivered think its great. But as others have said your back will not like you for it. It is one heavy beast. But good sound and will see how it goes on Sunday with its first gig.
12. Thanks for the replies, Hadn't thought about adding another 410 cab. I had thought that the 115 cab would give it the lows. I can get a new ashdown 410 cab out here for €250 so might give that some thought.
13. Just bought a new Ashdown Mag c410t-300 and although pretty heavy its a really nice well built amp. But I'm looking at adding another cab to it as quite a few gigs we do out here in France are outside and could do with the little extra ooomph. I know I need to go for an 8ohm cab but what about wattage? As money is a bit tight was looking at a Peavey 8ohm cab which runs at 200watts rms 400watts peak, would this work? or sound rubbish?
14. Thanks alot, will give it a go.
15. Thanks. What sort of oil should I use?
16. Not sure if this is the right section to ask, but anyway after some advice. I've got an old Aria proII that I stripped down a while ago and have been thinking about how to finish it. I sanded the body back to natural wood and although the body has been made from three pieces glued together the grain looks pretty good and the joins are not too obvious so thought I would keep the natural look. But what I am not too sure about is what to finish the body with to protect it, clear lacquer? or some other product. and can it be used on bare wood. Also will it affect the sound? Have been told that certain products can deaden the wood.
17. It doesn't have a socket for an external cab...yet. was thinking that if the internal speaker was 8ohm and the amp says 4 minimum the I could potentially add another cab. Its never going to be that great but maybe the cheapest option for now. Going to pull the speaker out and test the ohms.
18. The cab does have a couple of ports in the back with a plastic tube thing in each hole.
19. So as long as the ohms are right its not really that important on the wattage for the extension cab? As long as its not too high.
20. I'm after some advice here folks. I've searched through the forum and found lots of info but thought I would just ask and see what replies I got. My amp is a pretty cheap 'Indie guitars' 100 watt combo, nothing too grand but out here gigs are mostly in bars and bistro/cafe's. The speaker in the amp is what can only be described as RUBBISH. the amp just over powers it. I've taken it out and there is no make or ohms or anything on it, but can just make out that its 140watt. The amp itself says 100watt and where the jack for the speaker is says 4ohms min. So would I be right in thinking that the speaker in it is likely to be an 8ohm speaker and the amp not running at full power? I've found a Celestion speaker thats 150 watt at 8ohms, would this mean the amp is running at 75%? and if it was could I attach another small cab to bring it down to 4ohms and get the 100 watts? and what wattage speaker would be ok in a small cab? If it would work I'd make the cab myself. Can't afford a new amp at the moment so just trying to make the most of what I've got for now. Ben.
21. Hello everyone, what a great site. Was recommended by a friend and so far have found it enjoyable reading. Well been playing bass since 94 when my dad recruited me into his cover band, started off with a squier precision which I later painted, messed it up and sold it. Now got an Aria Pro II SB...something or other which is currently in bits getting a refurb. Also got an Alliance VP acoustic and just bought an Epiphone Thunderbird which I'm quite liking at the moment. Amp is a bit of a let down at the moment its a cheap as chips Indie 100watt combo. Have had some nice amps but do stupid things with them, like swap for motorbikes that kind of thing. Anyway moved out to the south of France and the music scene is different to what I'm used to. But going to give it a go out here all the same. Ben
