1. Think the zoom is 12v and is the usual transformer, how did you make your power leads long enough? Would it lose any voltage over a long length? Just thinking about cutting the wire off the transformer and putting a long bit in the middle. I've got two power supplies so might give it a go with one and test it.
2. Well I think thats what they are called, stage box/stage loom or similar. Has anyone made one? I was trying to clear up my act and have all my gear set up behind me in the rack. But BV's are in order for the new band so with the prospect of having a mic stand in front of me, thought I might as well have my zoom pedal there too. But really don't want all the wires so thought about knocking up a loom for the send and return, mic and power for the pedal. Will I get any problems running those together with interference issues.
3. I've gone cheap and just ordered a Thomann eco one, not sure of the quality until it gets here.
4. Just got a list of songs sent through from band number two and this is one of them, should be a good one to do. http://youtu.be/jPts15JaOTo
5. I don't feel so bad now for thinking of playing with another band, felt a bit unfaithful at first. But then I would love to be out 3 or 4 nights a week maybe even more. So will see how it goes.
6. Great advice, thanks. Going for a bash with this other lot on the 5th dec and see how things go.
7. Just after opinions on how to cope with two bands and keeping both sides happy. The number one band is a gigging band with dates in the diary, love the guys to bits and its real good fun playing with them. Although the music is good I am after something with a bit more life in it. So along comes another band just getting together with a live drummer playing my kind of music. I would imagine I try to fit the new band around the main one. Trouble is I just love playing live and can't say no, and as there is a shortage of bass players round here is a good thing for me.
8. Just updated my avatar, not being using the Aria much as I love the T-bird. mmm maybe i didn't change it, I'll try again.
9. Mines only an Epiphone and can't remember what my old P bass was like, but the thunderbird is great. I hopefully have a hipshot bridge coming too. Everyone at gigs always seem to comment on my Thunderbird which really upsets the guitarists with their fender tele's and strats. I wouldn't be without it.
10.
Bugger, he just looks 40 years younger then. Looks like you had a great time.
Think they may have found the fountain of youth, or the excessive wine drinking is the secret. Derek on keys 65,Bob the singer 69,John 67 and Chris 69 just leaving me at 34
11.
I resent that, he's 40 years younger than me.
John with the Tele is one of the younger ones at 67, but its a bloody good laugh playing with them.
12. Played at a Halloween dinner dance on sunday, some very strange gigs we play out here. Me and the good woman waiting for the punters to finish eating............... And playing a spot of music with some old dudes..............
13. Congratulations Fran on your spot of good news, as for what to buy I've got no idea. All I can say is enjoy and make the most of it.
14. Not falling into that one again Fran. No this ones the real deal about as perfect a woman as you can get, just got to be careful how much I spend as theres not much about at the moment. And in her eyes its probably not a necessary item/items.
15. Been doing alot of reading up on pots and their values. And then realised I had a set of 250k alpha pots already wired up(think they were off a jazz) so just soldered them into the thunderbird and there is a definite change in sound. and so far I like it. so will be popping some CTS pots in when they get here. Pickups will follow shortly, along with hipshot bridge. She is going to kill me.
16. mmmm food for thought. The seymour duncan do one for bridge and one for neck but looks like the EMG's are the same for both. Is that right?
17. I think I'll put some better quality pots in for now and see how it sounds. I have been on the look out for some pickups, but they are quite expensive. Have to be careful how much dosh I smuggle out. She seems to notice new shiny bits all too easily. I think I might try some lower value pots as the 500k ones are really quite bright and trebly.
18. My wiring is different to that, mine is just the plain passive thunderbird with three pots. but will check out that site. Thanks Fran.
19. Looking at changing the pots on my Epi Thunderbird, just had a quick look inside. At the moment the tone one is an A500k and the two volume ones are B500k. Whats the difference between the A and B part? Been looking for new ones and they say nothing about A or B, but from what I can work out a lower value pot will give it a warmer vintage sound which is what I am after. There's too many numbers when it comes to this kind of thing.
20. Also now thinking about doing something with the nut, don't know if its an Epiphone thing or just the way mine came out but the nut is so high, can you get a decent one that will go straight in, or is it a make fit type job?
21. Think I will be going for one very soon, along with maybe some hipshot tuners. Trouble is er indoors has eyes like a hawk and will notice new shiney shiney.
22. Is that a hipshot bridge? Do they make a big difference over the stock three point one?
23. Well I'm not one for playing with the setup of my basses, there's no adjustment on my acoustic so have learnt to play with an action high enough to drive a car under, my Aria pro was setup a couple of years ago by Grandwazoo when he threw some new strings on and that has been pretty good. On my thunderbird I just played it as it came out of the box, should've known better really as I've been playing for about 17 years. So just had a fiddle and lowered the action and set the itonation(almost) as far as the stock bridge will allow and its like playing someone else's guitar, so much easier to play. I'm hoping to get hold of a hipshot bridge and tuners for it pretty soon so will have to properly set it up then, are there any tips or tricks to get a good setup or is it just a personal thing.
24. The rest of the combo is for the bin, when I cut the top bit off to make a nice box for the amp it meant taking the top off the cabinet, so it only has three sides now.
25. Following previous discussions on how heavy big combos are and carting them about, I decided that my Ashdown combo was too heavy for lugging to rehearsals and already having the extension cab I got thinking about a smaller amp to use with that. Would always use the combo and extension for gigs. But our new rehearsal space is a bit of a pain so got to thinking about down sizing. Had totally forgotten about my old 100 watt combo, unplugged the built in speaker and plugged in the mag 115 and it sounded lovely so took to my old amp with a saw. It looked like this for a start..................... It still needs finishing off but so far so good............................. And when I took the amp out of the combo the sticker on the outside stating 100 watt didn't match the markings on the circuit board on the inside which says 50 watt, but it sounds ok for practicing with.
