1. Gigged with it last night. My fears: 1. It would not sound good 2. It would be difficult to change from A to fusion A&B The reality: 1. It sounded absolutely great 2. Switching was a doddle. Signal chain was bass -> Line6 G30 Relay -> Korg Pitchblack -> Le Bass -> House's DI to FoH and H&K amp So, sadly, I never managed to test the DI part of the pedal. It all started off badly when, after soundcheck (we checked last and played first), the guitarist stumbled off the stage and shifted my mic stand, nudging the volume on channel B to almost zero. So, standing up on stage, plugged in etc, I play a note and it is really quiet, but I assume that the soundly hasn't sorted out the sound yet. Due to the huge amount of gain on the Le Bass, I managed to pull off the bass intro of the first song, but was totally drowned out when the guitar and drums kicked in. It took the rest of the song to work out what had happened (and I could not exactly stop playing), but after that, all went well. I switched from Hot Fusion to A and back a dozen times, the sound was great (to my ears, at least!) and I made the backline sound good. Success! The Le Bass is definitely going to stay with me for the foreseeable future and, although it was pricey, was definitely worth the outlay.
Got this one Today.
Phwoooooooaaarrrrr! That's a right lush example!
3. I bought a Boss SYB5 off our good friend owen. All went well - he went out of his way to get it posted so it would be with me on time. What a man, what a man, what a man what a mighty good man!* *I think these are the lyrics, anyway. That song by that group of girls. You know the one. Yep, that's it.
4. Sold a pedal to Dan. Everything went smoothly. Fantastic communications and a top bloke to boot. Thanks!
5. Rehearsal today: the pedal is fantastic. Unbelievably fantastic. Today was grindcore, but I had about 20 minutes by myself to play with the settings and hear what the pedal can do. I am very happy and would gladly recommend the Le Bass. One thing that is slightly concerning, though, is that I found the DI to be very hot when I tried it at home. I have a gig in a week and I shall be using it there, although I think that the DI will be taken from the normal output rather than from the DI on the pedal.
6.
Any trades?
I would rather trade it for some cold, hard cash! However, a high-end overdrive would be of interest, as would a looper.
7. This is a great pedal that makes absolutely great sounds...but now that I have discovered this, I have discovered that I really have no need for these sounds. The pedal is in great condition, with a bit of gunk on it and a few surface scratches but nothing noticeable. No feet on the bottom - this thing has clearly had velcro on it at some point, but not anymore. I can put feet on it from another MXR pedal I have if you want me to. Box, manual and a few inserts all included. I am looking for £80 delivered to the UK if you can wait until I am next there (this is frequently) or add £5 postage if you want it without waiting. It can also be collected from London next week, or from somewhere else in the UK when I am over on my travels - just ask! Pics (apologies for the quality...I am good at other things, though!):
8. Hello, It is time to move this on to someone who can benefit from it. PLEASE NOTE The DI has a buzz on it that makes it unusable for recording. Live, it is fine with a bit of gating. The rest of the band - and the notes coming from your bass - cover up the buzz. The headphone has a buzz on it too. This, according to a bit of research on here, was also apparent in other pedals. Excellent pedal, with great EQ and nice valve sound that does anything from warming up the signal to producing filth. I have used it in a rock/pop band for warmth and in a grindcore band for filth. It is really very versatile. Power supply (UK) included. I suspect that this what is causing the DI problems, but I cannot say for sure. I now have alternative pedals that manage distortion and DI and so this is spare. £60 - this takes into account the problems mentioned above and is firm. Postage of £5 if you can wait until I am next back in the UK (this happens regularly) or £15 if you can't wait. Can be collected in London on Tuesday-Thursday next week. Pictures when I get the time. It's the white pedal with red splatter on it.
9.
Thanks for the update JB - was waiting for this update all week! Can you report on the noise and click issues Meddle experienced? Are you happy with the distorted tone? Are the cold and hot fusion modes usable rather than a gimmick? Can you run effects on one channel and change to the hot channel for boost/soloing, etc.?
I've only had a play at home but: Yes, I am happy with the distorted tone. I would say that it needs a booster pedal in front of it to get utterly filthy, but there is a lot of gain possible. The cold and hot fusion are very, very usable. I can see myself using them both frequently. No clicks or unexpected noise. I am a little unsure what you mean about effects on one channel and then change to the other...the FX loop is for the pedal, so you would be running effects on both channels. I see the pedal as, essentially, the front of an amp, using A as clean and B as dirty and the fusion for different characters of dirt. The FX loop is not switchable - this would be nice, but not possible without making the large pedal even larger. There are ways of doing this on your pedalboard, of course. In fact, I can see that the pedal might mean the end of a few amps when people use it as their preamp and go straight to a power amp afterwards. Rehearsal on Saturday and a gig the Saturday after will let me know a lot more. But let me reiterate - this is a great pedal and lives up to the hype.
10. A quick fiddle with the pedal at home tells me the important things: 1. The DI works nicely 2. There is a huge range of sounds available 3. The hype is to be believed!
11. Bump! Slight change of pick-up possibilities... London (Central; Vauxhall region) Tuesday-Thursday 22-24th March.
12. No killing of buzz here. Sigh. After a lot of mumbling, thinking, rationalising and so on, I had missed the main EU-stockists who are now all sold out. Thankfully, a local place has one and I pulled the trigger last night. Same price as Thomann, free delivery and local. It should be with me in a couple of days, but I shall not be able to pick it up from the Post Office before Thursday. Signal will be wireless - tuner - octaver - Le Bass with a touch of chorus in the FX loop. I don't use the octave or chorus all that much, so the key sound will be the Le Bass. I have a gig on Easter Saturday (minus chorus and octaver) where I can test it properly.
13. Time to shift my can-do-any-filter-sound-and-then-some pedal. In near-perfect shape, not a scratch on it. Box and UK power supply (standard 9V) included. shows what it can do. £100 posted to your door! Could be collected from Coventry on the 21st March or that London (central) 22nd-24th March and I'll knock off a tenner. Payment via bank transfer, Paypal gift, Paypal with fees covered (if you have good feedback here) or cash on collection.
14. Thanks for your input, dannybuoy. There are two footswitches. If A is on, do you need to turn off A if you want to have B on as well? If you have the fusion on, what happens if you click off A or B? Sorry for the questions...I just need to get my head around the bits that I don't recall seeing in the demo vid.
15. Very interested to hear if dannybuoy has had similar experiences... I have had similar noise experiences with a power supply that is dodgy. Could it be that you have a dodgy 12v unit? And that the pedal is not optimal on 9v? I really want this pedal to be what I think it is. The channel switching is not optimal either. I need it to be simple to go from clean to distorted. Argh!
16.
Whoa now whoa now. Never owned a VT DI and I don't get the Le Bass until tomorrow. We shall see! Chris Squire stuff should be possible given the spec.
Nice! Let us all know how you get on with it, please.
17. Today, I stripped it and gave it a thorough cleaning, then an oiling and a polish. I switched the Floyd block for a big brass one, changed the tremolo claw for a thick brass one and changed the springs for noiseless ones. A new set of strings (perhaps a new gauge? I'm a bit unsure of what was on it when I bought it). Now, the guitar really sings. Joy!
18. Mebeteus has let me know that the pickups do not work, so I am taking them back from him and withdrawing this ad. Of course, if anyone wants to buy some fried EMGs from me, let me know!
