1. Didn't you flog this head on ebay recently for £250odd or am I completely mistaken?
2. Blends in with your instrument! If that's their idea of 'Blending In' I'm glad for their sake they're not in any Chuck Norris movies!
3. Hi folks, My initial plan is to take it to a wee company in town who have done some work for me previously and see if the original driver can be salvaged. It may just be that some wiring has come loose in transit. (Yes, I bought it off the Dreaded Ebay and had it couriered up here! The seller assured me that the cab was in full working order before he shipped it and this may well have been the case but those lovely folks at City Link may have fecked it. Unfortunately I have no way of knowing who's at fault. In his favour the seller has offered a refund - minus shipping - if I can't get it repaired) I've read a few threads on here and elsewhere regarding replacing bass drivers and I'm aware of the pitfalls involved in cab size/tuning V's replacement speakers etc. Hopefully I can get the original driver back in working order cos they're really nice sounding cabs. Failing that I'll whack it on ebay as spares/repair and see if I can get my £40 shipping back. Cheers, JDJ
4. Hi folks, As stated the original 200 watt driver fitted in this MKV Trace Elliot cab is kaput so what I'd like is a recommendation for a replacement 15" driver please. I realise my best bet would be to have the original driver repaired, and I'm going to look into that as soon as I get a chance, but if that's not possible what would be my best option? I can't actually find any 200 watt 15" Celestion drivers so I was checking out Celestion BL15-250 but have since discovered they're no longer made. The alternative given is the Celestion TF 1525. Anyone have first hand experience of these? There's also the Green Label Celestion BL15-300X out there but I'd only be running a 150 watt head through it. Would a 300 watt driver be worth considering as a replacement or would that be too much of a strain on a 150 head? Cheers, JDJ
5. DAMN! If only I had £260 spare I'd take this off your hands right now! Ah well, yet another fabulous Trace head slips through my fingers
6. Thanks for all the words of encouragement and thoughtful ways of hiding said cabinet from her but I must admit since buying and paying for it I have come clean. I asked if she remembered the last cab I bought (she really couldn't say 'No' because it's in the hall underneath the 4x10!) and explained that even though it was a Mk V 1518 TE cab, it really wasn't a MkV 1518 TE cab because it had a 400watt driver fitted as opposed to the stock 200watt driver where as THIS one off ebay was 100% original! This information was absorbed in whatever way women do that and the reply was thus: "So, when you sell the new one you just bought you'll get more money for it?" I love women!
7. I just bought another MKV Trace Elliot 1518 off eBay! This now means I'll have THREE MKV TE cabs - 1x1048 and 2x1518. The last MKV 1518 I bought had the original 15" 200watt Celestion driver replaced with a 15" 400watt Celestion driver. (not a bad thing!) THEN I find ANOTHER MKV 1518, this time 100% original, on ebay with a starting price of £50 (I got it for £70 all-in) I now all I need to do is hide this new one from the missus once it arrives, then find out which one sounds better coupled with the 1048 and my amp head then maybe sell the spare one! Or maybe I'll just keep it! I love old school Trace gear!
8. OH MY GOD! This was my very first bass! (No, not this particular one!) My old man bought it for me for my 12th birthday. I always remembered it as being some kinda hideous Vox thing (well, it was almost 30 years ago!) but in fact it was one of these hideous things! I painted it orange and traded it for a mate's less hideous P bass copy. Aaah, good times!
9. If it's one of these bad boys and at a decent price then buy it! +1 to everything parker_muse said. I love the old MK V Trace gear! EDIT: Well that
10. Thanks for the info wesfinn. The grounding strip is purely for aesthetics and will serve no real purpose so I'll just get some copper tape and wing it! Cheers again JDJ
11. Hi Folks, I have a project I'm working on just now and was looking for a jazz bass ground strap - ala Fender's Jaco tribute bass - but am unable to find one. (Angela.com were the only retailers that came up in a google search but are currently out of stock. http://angela.com/jazzbassbridgegroundingstrap.aspx) As this is the case I've decided to go ahead and just make one using adhesive copper tape. My question is about the width of the strip. If I was to make it look 'Period Correct' how wide would I have to make it? Does anyone know the exact dimentions? Thanks, JDJ
12. First Bass Owned: A hideous black & orange Vox thing with nylon strings. 'Go To' Bass: 75 RI Jazz. 'Your' Bass: Larkin Reacter fretless 4. EDIT: "First Bass Owned: A hideous black & orange Vox thing with nylon strings." It wasn't, it was one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/wem-vintage-wem-sapp...=item2eb35a0917 I always remembered it being a hideous VOX thing but it was actually one of these hideous things - A WEM Watkins Saphire! God, it was AWFUL too! My old man bought it for my 12th b-day (which, to be fair, was almost 30 years ago!) so I can be forgiven for my mistake I think! Good times indeed!
