1. The bass that I'd want doesn't exist, and I don't even know whether Spector would make it! But if I had the money, it would be a Spector NS-2 with the Doug Wimbish sized neck (jazz nut, slim profile), but in a 30.5" scale. And electronics would be MEC p/j pickups with 2 band EQ. So basically, the moon on a stick! Oh yeah, and even if Spector would make it, it would probably cost about £6k
2. I really wish I'd had my strap with me when I tried it out, as I would have had a much clearer picture of whether it would be a problem for me. If Fender brought one out in those colours (white/black/maple) with a satin tinted neck, and added an active 2 band EQ, I think I'd have a really hard time passing it up.
3. I played it standing, with a cheap nylon strap
4. I played a white one of these in a store recently, and loved it! Amazing bass for the money. Fell in love with the sound, even though it wasn't terribly versatile, to me it sounded very Stingray-ish, which I'm really in to at the moment. The only reason I didn't buy it then and there was the gloss neck and fretboard (tinted satin would be preferable to me) It had the tiniest bit of neck dive as it's so light. But, nothing that a leather strap wouldn't solve.
5. Two sets of Elixirs for sale, 45-105. I bought them a couple of months ago as I like to keep spare strings around just in case, but I'm going over to the short scale side due to hand trouble. So these won't be needed. These are both unused and in unopened boxes, but I have another set on my Ibanez and they are amazing, feel and sound great, and last for such a long time. They are £42.95 per set on stringsdirect, so I'll pass these on for £28 per set, or £52 for both. Includes UK postage. Thanks for looking.
6.
Pm sent... a while ago...
Sorry, forgot to reply - but, as stated, postage isn't an option. Thanks for the interested
7. I like my Protec Contego very much, great case.
...including a fall from about 12'.
There's a story there and I'd love to hear it. How on earth did your bass fall 12 feet?!
8. Photo below Ibanez SR300 in pearl white/rosewood Currently in drop B tuning with heavy gauge brand spanking new D'Addario nickels that set me back about £25 Bought for a project that didn't happen. Great condition, little ding in the back of the neck that I've never felt whilst playing. Everything works as it should. I got if for a good price so passing it on to another basschatter for the same - £100. Only catch is that it will need to be collected as I have no gig bag, case or box for it. I'm in Gloucester. Can meet within reasonable distance for a bit of petrol money.
9.
I was thinking of this thread - http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 ...where you said; "So, my new bass needs to have the nut modded, as I need to use fatter strings (135 90 56 50). " At the time I thought it would need some tough handling.
Ohhhhh yeah! Yes, those are pretty epic strings. I used those for tuning drop B, so the tension was about the same as 45-105 in standard tuning. That's some pretty good remembering though!
10.
I seem to remember from another thread, you use amazingly fat strings. The fatter the strings; the harder you need to press down on the frets to bend the strings. Sorry to say this Mel, but this too could cause you problems. You'd do well to try to use thinner strings. Good luck Richard
I usually use 45-105 (elixirs). Are they considered heavy gauge?
11.
Stroke it, don't strangle it.
That's what he said
12. I'm wondering if the extreme skinniness of my Ibanez neck isn't causing me so trouble as well. As the neck does tend to make my hand cramp up a bit after a little while. Are there any necks out there that are a jazz width, but deeper profile than the Ibanez? How's the mustang neck profile? I don't know why but I feel a little reluctant to go short scale. Are they not terribly cramped up the top end?
13.
And I finally realised your quote is from 'Psychoville'.
14. My Ibanez is very lightweight at just over 7lbs, and the neck is very thin and easy to move about. I've got a doctors appointment next Saturday, but I guess I should start thinking about moving to short scale. I'm gonna be selling off most of my gear so will have some cash from that. What do you lot think of these two? There aren't any music shops around here that stock short scales so I'd have to purchase "blind" http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_detail.asp?stock=05071310103518 http://www.thomann.de/gb/warwick_corvette_short_scale_bk_aktive.htm
15. I've been having trouble with my hands and wrists for a few years now, recurring tendonitis, ligament strains, a ganglion, etc. I have over the last couple of months started to lose feeling in my pinky on my fretting hand. Can't play on wide necks, can't play on huge necks, and can barely fret the notes properly unless the action is around 1-1.2mm. In addition to this, my back is knackered, I have a shoulder than crunches ominously, and a hip that still plays up from a bone marrow biopsy about 20 years ago. So I find that I can't play as much as I used to. Left my band back in Jan/Feb, took a break for a while and sold my lovely Fender Precision because I got wrist pain when playing on the E string due to the wide nut. Picked up an Ibanez soundgear 4 string. Which is a nice bass, super low action, but I'm still having trouble playing without either pain or numbness. I joined another band quite recently but 4 or 5 practices in and I had to give it up again. I don't want to stop playing altogether as I love playing bass more than anything.... should I just persevere and hope my physical problems don't worsen? Would switching to a Mustang bass help? Nice short scale and thin but but deeper profile. Would love to hear any advice or other peoples experiences.
16. Wow, I've never even heard of these let alone seen one, nice! What's the tuning?
17. Thomann - obviously they're not in the U.K. but they ship here. That's where I got mine from.
18. Good point Hutton but, it was bought new only 2 weeks ago, and whatever store it was bought from would have a return policy.
19. They have a 30 day return policy - no reason to take a loss on it.
20. Sigh. I've wanted one of these for such a long time.
