I'll post some pic's when I get bored of playing it!
Here's a pic of my Kolstein with a modern Hungarian (left) and old French (right)

  2. Don't know if a d.b. thread exists already.

    From left to right are my modern Hungarian, Kolstein Travel Bass and old French bass.

    I just got the Kolstein last week and I can't put it down.
    It's sound and volume are unbelievable.

  3. S'pose I'd better come again, seeing as I probably live closest to the venue!

  5.
It's a great little instrument that I bought last year to use in theatre pits and it has served me well, however I'm realising I need a better instrument for my orchestral gigs when bringing my good bass is not an option for fear of it getting smashed.

    Anyway, the label reads "Copy of Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1721, made in Germany". No real idea of how old it is but it's definitely modern, say sometime within the last 50 years. It's a pretty standard 3/4 size viol shape. The body is plywood along with a nice ebony fingerboard and tailpiece. Also has ebony strips lining the neck heel, something usually only seen on older expensive basses. Structure wise, it's quite solid. There's been repairs to the scroll and headstock and I've been informed by the previous owner that these were done by Roger Dawson some time ago and have been stable ever since. There's an open seam on the lower bout that I haven't had time to sort and the A string tuner paddle is missing. Tunes fine though, you just need pliers for any major adjustments.

    Soundwise, it's great for a cheaper bass (the main reason I bought it). It's very even string to string and bows very very well for a plywood bass. Tuning is stable. The fingerboard and bridge have a nice deep radius so arco is easy for a fiver. String length is a comfortable 105cm. B string works fine for a bass of this size any the entire instrument amplifies well. Comes strung with a set of Spirocore mittels (not as pictured) and the pickup and quiver are NOT included in the sale. I need them for the new bass.

    I'm looking for £1000,

    the only trade I'll accept is a nice double bass (+cash from me obviously) although I'm very picky!

    If you're interested send me a pm to arrange a tryout (based in Catford, SE London)

    Cheers,
    Chris
I see there's a broken tuner, this might not be a problem if converted to for strings?

    but I'd be interested to hear from any current or previous owners / users of these portable basses.

    cheers
Sorted now thanks, but not an Eminence, I got a Kolstein yesterday, and so far I'm lovin' it!

  7. Hi,
    I've a Yamaha SLB100 for sale and will be traveling from North Yorks to SE London Thursday 18th Feb so could bring bass and offer discounted price for quick sale.

    It's got the odd ding which is to be expected with double basses, but nothing to affect it's playability

    I haven't got round to taking any pics yet, but could if required, just a bit pushed for time.

  8.

    One of these for sale in excellent condition complete with fitted, padded cover and footswitch.

    Prefer not to post so local pick up in Harrogate or meet somewhere around Yorkshire.

    The Marshall 1974X 18W 1x12 Combo Amp is a handwired reissue of the model 1974, a combo originally produced from 1965 to 1968. Introduced as a practice combo amp in 1965, it wasn't as loud as the terror-inducing heads Marshall was producing, but it could rock, giving up incredible lead and crunch sounds at low volumes. The 1974X combo comes with 2 EL84 tubes in the power amp, 3 ECC83s in the preamp, an EZ81 rectifier tube, and features valve-driven tremolo. A proprietary, aged reissue of the 20W, ceramic magnet Celestion T1221 speaker used in the original adds to the Marshall 1974X's tonal authenticity. Marshall includes a footswitch with your 1974X Combo Amp.

    Marshall 1974X Handwired 18W 1x12 Combo Amp Features:

    * Handwired reissue of the model 1974
    * 18W
    * 2 EL84 power tubes
    * 3 ECC83 preamp tubes
    * EZ81 rectifier tube
    * Tube-driven tremolo
    * Aged reissue 12" Celestion T1221

  10.
Thanks!

    If anyone's interested in it then let me know-cheers.
It might be useful to know what the diameter is.

    I met a bassist at a gig in Bradford with a busted endpin, wonder if he's sorted it?
    I'll see if I can get in touch with him.

  11.
For sale is my Korg DTR 2000 tuner as I have decided to reduce my rig somewhat. It's in excellent condition and has been rack mounted all of it's life.

    It's exactly the same as this model:

    http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product.asp?id=1822

    Looking for £105 inc postage
These are great tuners, I'm sure I paid nearly 200 quid for mine so someone's getting a bargain!

  12.
Full circle gone.
The Full Circle turned up today and I've fitted it to my Yamaha SLB200 as recommended by Dave Swift.

    Wow! what a difference! It's really opened up the sound and it's the best amplified bow sound I've ever achieved.

    So far tested in the house through GK150s, Markbass LM 250 + Epifani UL110 + EA Wizzy 10

    LM250 + Epifani best so far, I'll try it on the gig tomorrow with 2 x UL110

    Many thanks Owen

  13. Forgot to mention cab now comes with a new Roqsolid cover.

    The amp and cab were reviewed in Bass Guitar magazine if you've kept your old copies.

  14.
This is a great sounding American made, lightweight portable rig for smaller venue or larger venue with F.O.H. P.A.

    The small head comes with an Ampeg gig bag.

    The cab has a removeable trolley style telescopic handle, and a tilt back handle underneath, rated at 400w it has 2x10" neo drivers and a variable h.f. unit.

    Open to offers or trades for Markbass 2x10 or 1x12 combo, acoustic image, a.e.r. or anything upright.
    Original r.r.p. was around £699 each (as far as I can remember) May split.

I've still got this cool lightweight rig, but it's not getting used enough and I"ve too much gear hanging around so still for sale.

    £325 each or £600 for both.

    Sounds great with a Fender P or acoustic upright

  15.
Hello folks

    After much thought I have decided that I need to practice on a DB esque instrument quitley (with a neck heel and shoulders for thumb position and practicing intonation in the higher positions) more than I need the great sounds of my NS as my gigs are all on DB and I desperatley need to practice properly.

    My NS is in good condition, a couple of minor chips on the head and tail but it has been well looked after and is a great looking instrument, includes bag and tripod, currently strung with Spirochores apart from the low B which is the original, I include the remaining four originals as well, larger pics available.

    Cheers
Hi
    are you still looking for a Yamaha SLB

    I have a SLB100 to sell or trade, which is closer in feel to an acoustic upright.
    It is ideal for silent practice (which of course is what it was designed for) but can be used live.

    String stop is 105 cm

    The SLB200 is smaller with a shorter string length, and there's no bottom bout if you are used to the bass leaning against your leg.

    cheers
    Keith

  16.
Fair point - I paid a gnat's under £2000 for mine when the exchange rate was less favourable. Perhaps you could call the Gallery and see what they can do?

    Either way, if you have the cash waiting you might as well buy new - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    I bought mine direct from SMART distribution - have you checked out their price?
I called the Gallery, and emailed them, it's a commission sale and they're not interested dropping the price.

    Smart are about the same price as Thomann

    I"d rather support a u.k. business.

    I'm just waiting to check out a used Kolstein before I order.

    Have you got any sound clips of yours?

  17.
http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_kontrabas...ckabilly_01.htm

    Just wondering if this would be worth a punt?
    It's being offered second hand in my neck of the woods for a pretty low price.
    any input appreciated :)
Buying a cheap bass could go either way, if it's a dog and you're unable to make improvements yourself, it could put you off the instrument, but if you are prepared to experiment with adjusting bridge heights, strings and pick ups you may well get hooked.

    A word of warning
    Once hooked ther's no going back!
