  1. Aye, well, him of course.. natch. Manring.... snigger
  2. As long as they don't drop off with the ropey glue.
  3. I think he's the most evil person we can think of in the bass-playing world. To have him questioning the validity of our ACS's, well .... it's enough to make you spit!
  4. I always end up catching the string on those and pulling them out.
  5. Because I don't care for you and do not dance to your tune. This is old ground... move on.
  6. Because all I get is baited. Why don't you go back and read my first two posts, then read Mikel's and your response to it and ask yourself why I wouldn't, and whether the response to my first post is justified?
  7. I'm at work and I'm being flippant because it's already been said. I honestly think the whole title thing is being overreacted. Get some proportion, it is an interesting debate and I was very surprised at the comments at the conference. I'm a bass playing Harley rider who spends most of his time wearing ear protection of some sort or another. I'm also a specialist H&S advisor dealing with plant and lifting in major construction. This stuff is very important to me on many levels, but all you're bothered about is the headline.. Sheesh! Which one of you is going to pull the lever!? I'm not the BBC you know, just a bedroom hobbyist who thought some of you might be interested. I just think the real agenda with this is that I lead from the front and have an opinion, so let's have the usual pop at Billy Apple instead of actually talking about the issue. Oh yes... I'm a mod as well.. yawn.
  8. No it's not, no I'm not and no I won't. You have a habit of making demands on others and you aren't the boss of me. If you stopped being personal (and IMO a bully) you might get over it and make a valid contribution to the thread, otherwise you sound just like a stuck record... *puts in ACS Pro 17's*.... D'ho!
  9. I can see your problem. You’ve got a really weird shaped ear canal. Pinched at one end and fat at the other.
  10. The only thing sensationalist is the reaction of the myopic members who rather choose to attack an individual than actually deal with something that that is outside of the standard issue basschat kit. i suspected some members would act like they did and of course they did. This does not mean the conversation did not take place. I myself found it very interesting, but I’m open minded to others ideas. i have no idea of his actual credentials and I didn’t ask to see them. He was introduced to me at a H&S conference as a Doctor and he talked about his back ground in hospitals in London, I approached him afterwards feeling like a good boy with chat about my ACS Pro 17’s. Was he telling not to wear them, of course not, but he was also saying that they do not attenuate in the way or to the level we think. He also describes ear defenders as blind folds and went on about ear plug fittings. I suspect underneath most of us accept the best way to protect our hearing is with ear defenders, but we don’t want to hear it because they look crap on stage.
  11. Well, the Doctor I was talking to was not saying do not protect your hearing. Quite the opposite.
  12. What do you suggest I change it too? I was thinking of something snappy like "Despite professionals finding to the contrary, Basschatters refuse to listen to opinions outside of their narrow agenda shock!"
  13. What, to avoid loud noise and take care when listening to music? I don't think so!
  14. He also said they increase your risk of ear-infections that in themselves can lead to hearing reduction or loss.
  15. That's exactly what he said. You are still at risk from hearing damage. No, my title and OP is accurate from the information given to me by someone qualified on the subject. But, hey-ho the non-qualified Basschat experts know better. Or are you a Doctor (or anyone here?)
  16. You're missing the point. We think ear plugs protect us, but there is a source of sound that they don't protect against and ear defenders do. Perhaps ACS etc are not giving us the full story, and seeing as I'm a customer of theirs, it would be nice to know.
  17. He was talking about how humans hear and that it’s a misconception that sound is just detected via the ear canal. As far as I’m concerned he is shouting about it, maybe people don’t want to listen?
  18. No. A consultant in a well known London hospital. Who is working with the construction industry to help with long term hearing loss of construction workers. Also works with classical orchestra musicians.
  19. I was talking to a specialist audiologist Doctor last week and he says ear plugs don’t work. The reason being is that much of what you hear is picked up from the bone just behind your lug-flaps. His recommendation is ear defenders as they cover the bone too. also tinnitus is not fully understood and is just as likely to be blood pressure or neurological.
