3.
Finished I jammed with it for 2 hour tonight with my 8x10 and man I can't believe I waited this long before pulling the trigger on it. The Tayste switch works perfectly even has a bit of boost on it so it sounds better than the front panel setting. Got band practice tomorrow which will be fantastic, really looking forward to it. So at the moment the front panel doesn't light up, this is due to me wanting red and they use a white electro iluminessence or however you spell it panel with a film across it, so 1 red film looked pink, they got it to red at about the 4th layer but then you couldn't see any light out of it. So they are sourcing a red plate but it will be a month, tbh I'm not fussed it looks stunning as is. I've ordered new black and red cinemascope badges for the 4x10 and 8x10 cabs. I'm just so happy now, it's been a really great birthday.
Which drivers are in the cab? Neo or Ferrite?
 4. Just commissioned Matamp to build me a GT200 an some Cabs... Here is the story so far... Hello Jeff, Following our conversation this morning, I'm confirming my order for the following; 1x GT200 Bass Amplifier 2x 4x10 Bass Speaker cabinets My playing style is rooted in 70's punk and rock, with overtones of 60's mod, beat and RnB. I almost always use a plectrum, striking notes individually with occasional chords. I'm a percussive player with some melodic counter point to the guitar. Sometimes my pick work can be very rapid, but prefer to play less than more. I have never used any pedals, and don't think I ever will. All I look for is simplicity and truth. I have never found it necessary to be carried by equipment, and most stuff I've played through has been pretty crap. My guitar is a 1962 Fender Precision (re-fin), which I got from plumber when I was 16, and it's the only bass I've ever played. My guitarist plays a first run Squirer Telecaster, which he got when he was 17, and we've stayed with these ever since, he is a man full of Mod sensibility. The sound I'm looking for is clean and full, with a hint of a growl, but a rumble, not a bark. Any distortion would be natural from volume, but not contrived, and no fuzz. I want the amp to be as simple as simple can be, so the truth can shine through. Influences- John Entwhistle Paul Simonan JJ Burnel Stuart Morrow Adam Clayton Dislikes- Mark King Anything that is too treblely or too busy Equipment Aesthetics All hardware to be gold Amp logo to be 1224gt style as shown on website, with same border All lettering/graphics in gold Round knobs with gold position marker Cab speakers TBC Vinyl TBC Gold piping on head and cabs Speaker cloth TBC or metal grille sprayed gold Logo on cabs to match amp, in gold Thoughts- Could you do an amp head where the fascia is clear, with the same lettering/colour as above, but the inside of the amp illuminated (LEDs?) showing the valves? Yes, I know that the valves are at the back, just a gentle glow showing them in the distance Please send me a selection of Vinyl samples- Spanish Plaster, Black Reptile, Black Snakeskin and Black Pebble, also some swatches of speaker cloth- Salt and Pepper, Black Nylon, Brown Shimon an Ox-blood. Look forward to speaking soon. Best wishes, Sean Hi, Following my call this morning, I would like to add the following- top 410 cab to be sealed, infinite baffle bottom 410 cab ported Speakers most likely to be Neo's Power/Standby light lenses to be amber (as in gold) If I cant have the front panel see-through, can I have a switch on the back to illuminate the front panel? Most likely a straw coloured light On the back of amp I was thinking about the following- effects send and return loop DI output Slave output an attenuator (please ask Matt Allsop about this) Anything that you can recommend that would be useful Jeff, you were talking about the business honouring Matt Mathias. What kind of Amp do you think he would have built for me? Thank you in advance for sending the samples, and look forward to speaking soon Sean Hi Jeff, Thanks for the prompt despatch of samples, they arrived today. The covering will definitely be Spanish plaster, with salt and pepper cloth. I have also been considering 2x212 cabs as an alternative to the 410's. are the 212's available with Lloyd loom cloth? I'm also thinking about having the Matamp logo placed top right on the cabs in the style of the old series 2000 cabs Obviously I have to try both cabs to make a decision. Will let you know when I'm coming. Please could confirm that you have my deposit All the best for the new year, Sean Hi Andy, Following our conversation today, I thought I'd confirm the following changes- GT200 Head in Spanish plaster silver hardware *see PS below* Fascia plate in white with black lettering GT1224 style (underscore?), no border, please see attachment. No effects send and return loop power light red maybe Amber White position marker on round knobs DI output- please advise Slave output- please advise an attenuator (please ask Matt Allsop about this) Anything that you can recommend that would be useful Cabs Spanish Plaster vinyl Silver hardware *see PS below* Cab logo to match head Drivers/ Cab configuration/ Speaker cloth to be decided upon visit to factory Best wishes, Sean Stop Press. The jury is out on Silver hardware. Need to see both Silver and Gold at factory to make decision Hi Andrew, Thanks for getting back to me. Forget about the attenuator. What does the back panel look like already, and how would it be changed for a slave output? Is it wood, as I've seen some pics of some pretty cool looking alloy backs, and also fronts. Are these available? Regards, Sean
 5.
Sorry, but just in the pursuit of accuracy... Fender Bass V - introduced 1965 Fender Bass VI - introduced 1961 Perhaps the ugliest Fenders ever made, particularly the 5, which looks like a CBS parts-bin special. But at least they were still innovating.
I thought this was a baritone guitar, not a bass?
 6.
hello friends. I live in Italy and first of all i m really sorry for my bad English! I have to opportunity to sell some of my Vox Phontom Basses made by an italian luthier! I know that's really hard to find the original one but the basses i sell are like the original! They are copies but really similar to the original. The colors are: the classic black and white one. Amazing shape and classic vox sound. The price is really low, around 380 euros without shipping costs. For any questions, or pics ask to me! Thank u really much
Yes, Post some pics please, and some more info about these basses

 8. Yes, There stuff is excellent. I'm in the process of getting a few bits and pieces made for myself. But, for the full lowdown, Pm this guy- tayste_2000. He'll tell you everything you need to know. And check the website- http://www.matamp.co.uk
 9.
HI does anyone have any info on 'Matamp 610 Bass Cab', just been looking at it on gumtree, looks good to me! but does anyone know anything about it? I would have thought someone out there would have some sort of reply for me!
Hang on...
 10.
If people are telling you not to buy a Squier because of the name on the headstock they need to think again. Several of the Squiers are extremely good value for money and play fine straight out of the box - in particular the Classic Vibe series. Although that's not to say that they can't be improved with pickup/tuner/electronics upgrades. Get down to your local store and try one.
I agree. I was recently in Dawson's in Reading and had a whole range of Fender Squiers Epi's and Gibsons lined up. Th Squire '62 re-issue classic vibe outclassed many of the way more expensive basses. I'm lucky enough to own a re-fin Fender '62 P Bass, so I know of what I speak, and believe me the Squire was spot on. I would have taken her there and then, if only it did not feel like buying an identical bass to the one I already own. And believe me, I was always prejudiced against buying a Squire without ever having tried one.. Trans Crimson Red with P&J pups for £200ish ... Ooh, Suits you, Sir!
 11. Any detailed pics of the actual bass? Is it Trans Black?
 12. Still available? Can you fill me in with some history? Price for sale? PM me if you like
 13.
Just collected these this afternoon, Jeff swapped the 2x12 I bought off Steve as I prefer the Lloyd loom as opposed to black speaker cloth. Can't wait to gig em!!
What do they call the finish of the vinyl? Very nice, by the way
 14.
Johnny Hoof Last Seen: 22nd August 2009 - 08:50 AM I suspect you're not going to get an answer.
Yes, he must be on the hoof then.
 15.
You know what you have to do then.
I've been doing a little more research and found Matamp's main amp builders have parted company (Dave Green and John Tilley). Would you still buy a Matamp, are they still the quality/tone that they were?
 16.
Yes, that way you don't reduce horizontal dispersion, you do reduce vertical dispersion to limit the output wasted going to the floor and ceiling, and you can hear your mids better as they pass closer to your ears rather than below the waist. Maybe not ideal per se, but for sure the best way to employ 2x10s. This explains why many players prefer a vertical 2x15 to a 4x10. Even though the individual tens have wider dispersion than the individual fifteens the 4x10 configuration squanders the potential offered by the tens.
So would having two 410's (or indeed an 810) on top of each other be like having two vertically stacked 410's next to each other?
 17. I'm off to check out Matamp tomorrow. Thanks again for the input, Billy
 18. Thanks to everyone who has taken time to reply. Big cheers, Billy
 19.
i've just changed cabs from a 2x12 to a 2x10. very different sounds, but then there are about a million different other variables. i would say if in the future I sold this cab and went looking for a new one, I would look at the 12's first
You don't seem happy with 10's, what do you think it is about 12's that do it for you?
 20. Please help, I've always had 15" speakers, and I'm looking to buy a proper stack. I always thought the bigger the speaker, the better for a bass. Now it seems the standard is for 410's, but a guitarist would use 412's, it makes no sense to me!? I want an amp head, with two sexy cabs. Who thinks they know what is the best configuration, and why? cheers, Billy
 21. I'm in Slough, no plans tomorrow night. Should be able to get along.. send number (PM if you like), I'll call
 22. 'Fairly important not to mention Orange though.' - How come? I've just read stuff on company websites. What's the truth behind the split?
 23.
Hello We are drums (21) guitar/vocs (47) and it's a rock band. So we're talking Overdriven valves rather than Distortion. We're putting together 30mins of covers designed to make people bounce around and then we'll be adding in originals. Covers so far are Stooges/Nirvana/Sonic Rendezvous Band/Stones/Oasis. Originals are Songs that sound nothing like the above! Sort of Laurel Canyon '71 with a dash of Detroit (white and black) '72 but English! You know how J Mascis and Kevin Shields always have strong tunes at the centre of the maelstrom? We're intentionally loose so there is space for the Bass (oh that rhymes). I've been told that we play loud (its real overdrive). Other than that it is over to you if you're interested. If you sing and/or write, or want to that would be an added bonus. Obviously this is amateur for now, but we've clicked so well that we intend taking this one as far as possible. We have an ultra-cheap practice space in Aldershot and play every week. Email is:- [email protected] P.S. If I've missed anything from a Bassists point of view can you let me know please?
Still Looking?
