1. Hi Im thinking of showing the people of youtube and of course you BC'ers what im made of, but id like to know whats the best "AFFORDABLE" camera to use? obviously HD would be good. Or, let me know what kind of camera you lot use, would be interesting to see the variety, open my eyes wider than the Argos catologue y'kno. Thanks Gareth

3. You'd think that the sound engineers would be over the moon to use the supplied D.I on the amp. saves alot of time, what with having to set up the box, run the wired etc. Definetly gonna get the soung guy to use my D.I on friday. il let you know his reply.
4. Yeah i am a fan of Rush, i meant the notation, thats kool. might just take it off ur hands.
5. The Rush book, it got music in it for playing along to?
6. I zoomed in and i can make out, ( faintly mind you) the letters L M Whos to say it wasnt a one off model made by the strap manufacturers LM?
7. Barrowlands 2 in Glasgow. its in the same building as the main Barrowlands hall, its just the bar area with a stage, sounds great and holds a good few hundred Soundhaus in Glasgow - it used to be good. not played there in a while but when i did it sounded pretty damn good, the sound engineer knows exactly what he's doing Ivory Blacks - small stage, large hall. again sounds great and everyone knows it. thats just a few of the places to play in Glasgow. most of the venues are promoted through KMR promotions.
8. my rig thats my current rack. its my first. definetly looking for a stand alone compressor
9. i use a beringer btr2000 ( had to get one seeing as korg stopped making the dtr2000) its rack mountable, i dunno if that suits u. didnt cost too much either and it work really really wel. it works whilst playing, or while the amp is muted, clear read out, and built in metronome.
10. I would recommend traben basses. i have one. cost around 250. they have loads of different styles and the bigger bridge, bigger tone thing isnt a cheap marketing ploy. i have a traben array attack 4 string, it sounds really meaty and weighs next to nothing, and it looks more expensive than it is.
11.
Will it affect the sound? Yes. By about 0.001%. You should be able to sand it back and re-paint it but if the dings are too deep then you'd be as well taking it back to the wood. Some guys like the lack of effort that paint stripper involves but personally I'm a sander. Paint stripper can be messy and inaccurate but it is quick. If you choose to sand it off you will be accurate but it could take a couple of sittings to get it all off depending on the finish. An orbital sander is fine to get through some top layers but for me nothing beats using a sanding block and some elbow grease. Once you're done, a couple of coats of clear lacquer or primer and paint and Bob's yer auntie.
If ever i needed an excuse to use the Peter Kay joke about borrowing an orbital sander, this is the moment hahaha. cheers for the tips. This is going to be fun. "Dear girlfriend, im sorry i cant see u, im sanding my bass" she will be pleased
12. I have a yamaha RBX375, the back of the neck is painted / coated with black paint. ( i think its paint, i dunno) and its chipped in places, the usual wear and tear of a neck. I was thinking the other day, is it worth my while trying to find the right paint to cover up the damage, or could i make myself a custom neck by stripping the rest of the black coating off? A few things popped into my mind: Will this affect the sound of the bass? Is playing a wooden ( natural) neck faster than playing a painted/coated one. just wondered if anyone had ever done this before. cheers Gareth

14. im pretty sure it was quoted around £200 to get it fixed, set up and re strung. tbh i dont think i want it re strung, the ones on it have been there for a year or so but theyre still sharp coz iv never used them, and they cost £36 quid
15. I joined a band last year called LOST PERSONA. We are a Prog/Metal/Rock band from Glasgow, influenced by Tool, Killswitch Engage, Opeth, and the like. We released our first album which we named Lost Persona and are currently gigging all over the place to sell it. if you want to go and hear it then go to either Lostpersona music here or Lost Persona music here aswell ENJOY!!!!
16. Right there is sooo much stuff has gone wrong with this bass it is unbelieveable. First off, it is an active bass and eats batteries like you would not believe, 1 a week, No i dont leave it plugged into my amp because i know that completes the active circuit. Think there is something not right with the wiring causing the batteries to run low. The switch that contols the pickups, is knackered, it doesnt switch very well and crackles sometimes, think it needs a new control pot or something, that what the guy at Jimmy Egypts said anyway. it also needs set up for playing in drop C. i really dont think the way the action is just now is the right way. best for last, the jack is gubbed too, need a new jack for it, and last week it shocked me, the bridge went live and shocked me. not touched it since. It's my favourite bass, it sounds meaty and i just want it back in working order again.
17. or if you already have an amp, just play along with computer through headphones and turn the amp up a little. cheaper than a line6 pod
18. Theres a DBX 266XL for sale on Guitarampkeyboard.com, £129.99 down from 229.99. might be worth lookin at. DBX 266XL
19. do the stand alone compressors work well witht he built in compressors you find in most amp heads today? I have a warick profet 3.3 with a built in compressor, was just wondering as someone recommended a DBX Compressor to me.
20. just wondering, but can you play into the computer and GP6 automatically tabs out what you are playing? or am i having an awesome dream?
21. 2011 will be the year i remember for being able to play Mr Pink all the way through, without stopping. donations to the tendon repair surgery i will require in 2012 may be paid directly
22. i got the demo of GP6, it is pretty dam good. and just as i remember, tricky to work the notating. haha. im probably gonna just buy the full version. my credit card is gonna cry, first Rush tickets, now GP6.
23. Hi Guys n Girls. Just wondering if anyone here uses or has used in the past, Guitar Pro. I used it a few years ago and it was pretty good for learning songs. But im wondering, is it good for writing out yourr own music.? My band has a lot of songs and i cant always remember them off the top of my head so im looking to buy Guitar pro to sort of archive the songs. If you could leave your opinions that would be brilliant. Cheers, and Happy New Year
24. At the Moment, im learning Time Stands Still by Rush. Just doing it for my own enjoyment no other reason. Its a brilliant bass line, very simple in sound but at the same time challenging and just when i feel like im getting it, it all goes WROOOOOONNNNGGGGG AAAAAAARRRRGGHHH! dam chorus. anyone else had problems with this song?
25.
Greetings, what did you end up with? Yammy or something else? Not all online tabs are dodgy, some of them are just plain wrong. Nevertheless there's more than a few that are pretty close/spot on, it's just a question of trial & error. To decide which is what you need two things... a tab reader & a pair of ears. A couple of good free tab progs are Tux Guitar and Powertab (of the two I reckon Tux is the better one). If you want to splash out, then GuitarPro isn't bank-breakingly expensive. For downloading tabs, I tend to use 911 Tabs as that site searches loads of others as well. Generally if it ain't there, it don't exist. So... what do you do if you can't find a tab? Well... you could post up a request in the Theory & Technique part of Basschat. If anyone has it, there's a sporting chance they'll post it up or provide a link for it. Talkbass has a similar forum (called "Tablature" oddly enough) & is another good resource. That's one option. Another one (& in my opinion the better one) is to use your ears & figure it out for yourself. I suspect I'm right in believing that the vast majority of players here started out playing using exactly that method & many (me included) continue to do so. It works. Alright, it doesn't give the 'instant' result that having the tab (or the sheet music) does, but it's better for you in the long run... trust me. Arm yourself with a few scales (Major, Minor & Pentatonic), get used to playing them all over the neck & you'll be astonished at how things will start to click into place. Learn the names of the notes - don't say/think "1st fret on the second-thickest string", say "B-flat". If you have to transpose a tune into a different key, that'll help. Knowing the note names and your basic scales also unlocks a whole shedload of tunes. It's not a 5-minute job though. In fact, learning never stops. It can become rather addictive tbh. To answer your other question, YES. It's always a good idea to check your tuning before each practice session as it can & will drift - especially with new strings. You'll also find that recorded music isn't always tuned to the standard (A = 440Hz), it can often be a semitone down (Bon Scott era AC/DC, early Black Sabbath, & Thin Lizzy to name a few), or even a quarter-tone off (try The Small Faces for this). Then there's the Death/Grind/Sludge/Math/Nu-core metal lot who'll tune to all sorts of weird & wonderful "standards". Probably best not to go there just yet. If you can afford it, seek out a decent teacher in your area (preferably one that specialises in Bass) - that 'forced' regime can work wonders. If you can't, or don't have time, have a nose around StudyBass.com, & investigate the stickied posts in the aforementioned Theory & Technique bit of Basschat and also over on TalkBass (two sub-forums there - 'Technique' and 'General Instruction') That Frank Stallone number... '80s or what? Anyway... it seems to be in the key of Cm and the little run is a partial Cm downscale (but starting on the F)*. Over to you, you should be able to get this without resorting to tabs. Seriously, it's not that hard (but it's a good one to kick off with for a number of reasons). Pete. *Theory is my weakest suit, so I fully expect to get pulled up on this
I have fallen prey to the weird and wonderful tunings of the death/math/grind elite.....CGCFA my apologies.
