1. Thanks for answering sblueplanet's question Lozz196. Much the same as most rigs when you double up on cabs. Not so much louder but more presence and depth. Only just got it so can't comment on how it sounds within band context. Rehearsals on hold till holidays over but week to go until next studio rehearsal and will be able to crank it a bit. So far i've got Gain at 2 o clock and the master is barely on and yet it is more than loud enough at home even compared to my other rigs and that includes an Ampeg SVT4 Pro rig. The one thing i have found quite noticeable is the depth with EQ at its mid points. It just seems to fill the room and is very rich and full. The tone filter VLE and VPF give it a nice vintage sound both set at 9 or 10 o clock positions. Add to that the extreme lightweight benefits its amazing what these cabs can put out. Will put up a review after next rehearsal Dave
2.
You don't really need to bring anything if you don't want to. On the website there will be a list of most of the guys going and they list the gear they are bringing you can do the same and if there are duplicates it is easy to sort out so that one person brings the item rather than two. Means we get more gear with as much variation as possible for everyone to have a look at.
I just show up with my ticket (and better half) and have a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable day out. Great people, well organised and always a great demo from the guest. Steve Lawson this year who i had not heard much about was exceptionally interesting and a comedian as well. I can see how a more central venue would draw a bigger crowd but that's what makes the Moffat show a bit more relaxing because its not all bassists doing their funk slap thang. Some very talented bassists attending and have heard some nice techniques. Did miss the jam session this year. That should be revived as makes for god fun just listening to the guys. Dave
3.
Can't go wrong with GAK. I've had top service every time. I look there first these days.
GAK came across big time on this and fair impressed. I use either GAK or Bass Direct as they are UK based but have used Thomman who also offer a great service. Dave
4. Ordered the covers from Hotcovers who are local to me so cheers for the advice on the covers guys. Dave
5. My new Markbass CMD121P & NY121 next to my Berg rig.
6. At rehearsals i'm usually early and 1st to set up so can plug away for few mins until guitarist is ready. Once he is set up i let him have his 5mins. Then the kys sets up while we wait on the drummer adjusting the studio kit from left to right handed and then he will thrash for few minutes to get positioning right. Then quick level check amongst us and we go for our warm up song. We have all agreed no noise between songs during gigs. If someone is talking at rehearsals about song we've just done or are about to do we all stop and listen. Maybe i'm just lucky we all think same way. Dave
7.
Keep the boxes, you might be able to post a couple of 1x12s in them
The Bergs are bigger than the Markbass and don't fit. I tried that in hope. Dave
8. Not having the original boxes or good enough packaging i'd be too worried they might get damaged as they are in virtualy new condition. Don't think there are any marks at all on them as they have only seen one gig and a few rehearsals. Rest of the time i've used one of them for practice in the house. Even the covers are clean and no marks. I was hoping that a buyer could be found locally who could pick them up or meet me within reason. I think you might be a bit too far for that though. Dave
9.
What about a picture !
Will do once i tidy the spare room a bit. Tomorrow night ... honest. Dave
10. New Markbass rig CMD121P & NY121 arrived today and first impressions are "amazing". Can't believe the depth and mid punch from it with everything set 12 o'clock. Also the filters make a huge difference to the sound. They appear to be extremely well built and solid feel to them. All that and they literally weigh nothing........well not a lot. Looking forward to next rehearsal to give it a full run out. Dave
11. Thanks Tauzero bit surprised myself but i don't have original boxes or any packing materials so pick up only. To be honest i'm in no rush to sell. Not desperate for the money but don't want to give them away for a lot less than i think they are worth. Just bought a Markbass rig and its quite a different sound to Berg cabs. Might keep them just to have a change. Dave
12. I would go with majority on here and say mfr issue. Hardly noticeable. As suggested just fill it with some clear lacquer to smooth it off and it should be fine. If the bass is otherwise in perfect condition i would say its mint as not damage by previous owner. What bass is it. Photo of the full bass would be nice. I'm curious. Dave
13.
I dont use the tweeter in the NY 121, I dont like the sound so I turn it down Also, have a look at Hotcovers. I had a good cover made by them.
They look good and local to me and almost on my way to and from work. Will wait till i get delivery of amp and cab and give them a call. Thanks for that Dave
14. Not seen them but have seen Ledd Zepp twice and they are amazing. Dave
15.
Congrats , Mark bass gear is fantastic, i've been using their cabs for a number of years now with no GAS
That's the hope as i'm starting quite a wee collection of cabs and amps at the moment but all good for different things i guess. Wife probably disagrees tho. Dave
16.
Minor point on the Roqsolid covers - they made them according to the Markbass specs online, which are wrong. I measured the combo and cab and sent them the exact sizes and mine fit perfectly. Let me know if you want the sizes. Steve
Hi Steve If you've got the sizes that would be great knowing that yours are a good fit. Cheers Dave
17. I'll need to look at covers. Forgot all about them when i ordered. I've got a Roqsoid cover for my Berg HT322 and they make great covers. Thanks for the reminder and i'll go and check their prices. Couple of my friends have same rig which is one of reasons i settled on it. Dave
18. Basically what they said to me. Markbass prices have dropped quite a bit since then. Got this for well under the £1k. I'm chuffed but needed to get a good quality lightweight rig with some mid-punch to cut thru mix of kys, gtr and drums in a prog band. Dave
19. Decided to give Markbass a go. Decision on either CMD 102 or CMD 121 with ext cab. Went for the 121 & ext cab. Best deal for 121 combo was Thomann at almost £100 cheaper with ext cab NY121 pretty much same price. Emailed GAK and they initially couldn't match Thomann. Exchanged a few pleasant emails with Kris at Gak and eventually they came back with exact same price as Thomann to make sure i didn't go elsewhere but they also included free delivery all done and dusted Delivery Tues 21st Jul. Have bought from GAK few times now and always been a good deal and an easy transaction. All in al i'm pretty impressed by Kris and GAK. Now looking forward to new rig day. Dave
20. Still going...... still no serious interest ?? Great cabs, lightweight, small and easy to transport. Rated 300W each recommended by Berg to use 500W amp. Perfect condition, gigged once. I keep all my gear in good condition. My feedback is all good and positive. Not sure what's the hold up. Thought these would have gone quite quickly ?? Dave
21. Took lessons once a week for approx a year and teacher said i had learned enough of the theory and should listen to as many types of music as possible and learn myself from there. I went on to listen to Rock, Prog, Jazz Rock, Jazz, Funk and even Pop music. I loved playing the Jazz Rock which was a great mix of what i enjoyed listening to. I've kept up n my music reading altho not to a usable sight reading level. Just enough that i can use it to learn songs and discuss chord changes with other band members. In recent years i have learned from TABS, Youtube and books and anything else that teaches me different and interesting bass lines. There is no end to what you can learn and after 40yrs of playing i'm still finding new things to do and play. Dave
22.
PM on the way...
PM replied.
23. Now that's a great price for aMarkbass LMII with gig bag. I'm thinking of getting one of their combo's possibly CMD 102 but this is quite tempting too. All the best with the sale. Dave
24. Still great cabs for the money i would have thought. bumpity bump Dave
25. liking that a lot especially at that price. Considering but have 8 basses incl Jazz already. GLWTS Dave
