  1. Not heard they were hard to maintain Daryl. I think they have a dual truss rod system tho. Not even sure if the new ones still use a twin truss rod ? They do look good tho. My first real interest in Ric's was when i came across Rush in 76 and Geddy was using one. Then a lot of Prog bands used them too and i liked the tone but Geddy proved that he could make his Jazz sound just like a Ric and fooled us all. 😂 Dave
  2. I bought my new WAL custom fretless in 80's for £740 and kept it less than a year because of a dead note on G string. WAL didn't want to know so i just traded it in for i think it was a Ric. Took a huge drop and now on hindsight i reckon it was possibly something silly like an unseated saddle that could have caused it but being fairly young and no great knowledge of setting basses up i just moved it on. Oh the silliness of those years. I reckon i would still have had that bass as i loved the tone and feel of it. Dave
  3. About 15yrs ago i could buy a new Ric in Guitar Guitar for approx £1400. Then they jus seemed to shoot thru the roof with their prices. Dave
  4. OUCH !!! that's approx £650 over here. How long ago was that ya numpty. (Can i call you that without offending ?) 😂 Dave
  5. That's the one to go for. These are on my list of basses to own before you die but like @fretmeister i'd be dead in the morning. Absolutely love those basses. Fantastic price and in perfect condition too. Doesn't help its so far away but we can dream. GLWTS i don't think it will be here long. Dave
  6. Must admit i do love the shape of them. Think if money wasn't an issue i would have one in my collection along with a MM Stingray, G&L L2000, WAL, Alembic, 1960 P bass and a Jazz, Overwater Progress 4, Gibson Grabber/Ripper, Kramer DMZ, Status (original graphite version), Vigier and so many others. 🤣 Dave
  7. It was a white Ric. I think it was the S version but not having any pics of it i could be wrong. Dave
  8. Had a polar white one in 80's and didn't keep it long. Just couldn't get a tone i liked. Its the only bass i have no pics of. Dave
  9. Isn't it funny that every time i see a Ric bass in the pics my first thought is "Ooohhh a Ric bass". Maybe i need to get one. 😂 Dave
  10. Sorry to hear of your loss there. Never an easy time and our thoughts are with you there. Sounds like a combination of band members needing to extract the digit and do more and over-whelming workload. I think you're making the right decision in talking with your boss to ease back a bit. I made the mistake of keeping it to myself and suffered no end of stress related issues until i was asked by works nurse to see a stress therapist. To be fair it worked and i felt great after the sessions were all done but once you get back to the day job it just restarts and there's no way out. I was lucky that after 40 yrs service they wanted redundancy volunteers and i was the lucky one that got selected at 56yrs old. Best thing i ever did but i realised that work isn't the only thing in life you should focus on. It needs to be more balanced. My work ended up being my sole existence for about 10-15yrs. Its all i seemed to do. We used to always book a 6hr session on a Sun 11-5pm. It makes the rehearsal a lot more relaxed when you know you have time to get thru your full song list. We take sannies and coffee in too and of course cakes. Have a wee lunch break around 1-2 ish. Anyways take care and hopefully things will pick up once you confront those that need it. Dave
  11. New you couldn't stay away from the big stages Pete 😂 Dave
  12. My exact thoughts too but didn't want to mention it and cause more problems for him. Most of our gigs run on a little but that's usually because we just put too many songs in the set list but we all enjoy it. I forgot to mention the Bingo and raffles do tend to run over and our 2nd set invariably starts late. Depending on how nice the club is to us we will either just do the full set or we cut it short and finish dead on time we initially stated. Dave
  13. Any car is uncomfy after 10hrs drive before a gig. Dave
  14. Is that a statement or a warning ? 😂 Dave
  15. Nice Stingray. Got a notion for one at the moment but need to get some more gig money first 😂 Dave
  16. when you know its time, you know and i wish you all the very best in whatever else you get up to Lozz. Hopefully not giving up bass completely and you'll still be on BC as normal. Dave
  17. I had a similar "flap" issue with my bass rig. When i dig in i was hearing that speaker flap sound from my bass rig. Its something i've had a while but just thought i was pushing my rig too hard. However i started using my Keeley comp at every gig meaning my bass level never increased to the amp. It pointed more towards my Sandberg VM4. I decided to lower the pick ups a touch just to see if it made a difference and low and behold the issue has now gone. I generally like a reasonably low action but not enough to get fret buzz so i'm typically 1.75 - 2mm at 12th fret depending on bass. I only experienced it when really digging in hard in the heavier rock songs. Oddly enough there are some songs i miss the distortion / flapping sound as it suited the aggressive tone. 😂 Dave
  18. What's this ? Giving up gigging. I reckon you'll miss it. Always take a large 18" gym fan and have it at your side of the stage. It makes a world of difference even on a minimum setting. Dave
  19. Meant to ask if you were using an amp or DI to desk. ? Can't quite see what's behind you in the vid. Dave
  20. Love the catchy wee bass line in Crazy Train. Dave
  21. Some nice wee bass bits in there. Liked that. Bass sounds nice. Dave
  22. That is so nice and from the best years i believe. Bet the neck on it is sublime. I have a Thumb NT4 from 89 and its a glorious bass to play. GLWTS Dave
  23. Nice choice of songs there. I use Money as my soundcheck as it covers all 4 strings and isn't busy and the SE can easily set things up to it. Got that tip on here somewhere. Dave
  24. Was it not a bit weird playing on the sidewalk ? Dave
  25. I'm guessing you were booked by the restaurant otherwise you were just "busking" 😂 Dave
