Yes. The noise is coming off of the ring main. You could try running an extension lead from a different ring (upstairs for example). Alternatively you can buy a mains conditioner plug that filters out most of the usual mains borne noise.
Or take the line out of the first and feed it into the input jack of the second, and set all the tones completely flat, and approriate gains etc on the second one? That way any onboard effects used on the first amp go through the second amp as well (if that's what you wanted). Edited to add: the orignal bass cube is (IMO) excellent, and at £200 it's a bargain. Depends if you want the added new features of the XL120 I suppose.
The XL range has one of those digital looper things built in plus an extra 20W. Other than that I can't really see the difference, still has the COSM stuff onboard if you're into that sort of thing. I had one of the original Cube 60s many moons ago (garish bright orange vinyl covering on it) and that was a really nice little amp.
Hi, I have a Roland 100 bass cube and have been on the lookout for a cheapish extra 12'' cab to use with it to give it a little more ooomph. I've noticed the Roland 100 bass cube must be being replaced by a newer model as they are appearing on ebay and in shops at arround the £200 mark, Would buying another Roland 100 combo give me the extra ooomph and maybe more volume that i'm looking for? as my buget was around £200 for an extra cab? If so what would the best way to use one bass through two combos at once, would it be easy or would I need some form of splitter box tho split the signal? Any advice appreciated, thanks.
Yes, the Roland Bass Cube 100 is being replaced with a new model (Cube 120XL). You can split the bass signal into two amps using a fairly cheap little mixer.
Ha ha...you can't be that much of a newbie round here then, if you had time to accumulate, what was it, 29? cats!
You'd be shocked at how many cats you can get infested with in a short period of time. Went from 3 to 29 in the space of about 18 months!
Yes, what a great way of filling time.
I don't do it to fill time - I use it as a practice tool in between proper rehearsals.
There are a lot of gigs out there where you don't have the luxury of being given the music to listen to ahead of time, and it's for situations like that where knowing all this information becomes vital.
+1 I'd only class myself as a 'light theorist' but I certainly would find my work drying up pretty fast if I didn't have a rudimentary grasp of why things do/don't work. It gives me the freedom to work with material that I wouldn't be able to without it.
Dude I cannot imagine for one minute that Jon would let a bass go without a fret dress. I know you're a bit away from him but as you are prepared to pay for someone else to do remedial work why not jump in the car and head over to Jon who will sort all your woes for free. Make a day if it.
+1 I'm guessing that it's probably something that a tweak of the truss rod would sort out - frets don't just 'bob up' and there's absolutely no way that he'd let an instrument leave his place in a less than 100% working order.
Oh bugger, I've just had a phone call and the audition has been cancelled, the singer has a migraine.
Hey - Bonus!!! You can spend some more time getting your "I Wish" finger tanglement issues sorted out now.

An acoustic guitarist I work with started a bit of teaching about 18 months ago. He used cards in shop windows and then word of mouth from his initial students. He also does a lot of plug n play nights and has picked up a few students from those. He doesn't do a huge amount of it but he earnt enough from it to 100% pay for his family holiday in Portugal last summer.
You certainly do move big time don't you? Must be a nightmare with all those cats!
The cats were a new addition. It just used to be me, a transit van and a pile of boxes - life was simpler back in the olden times...
The outdoor ampitheatre at Conkers is a great venue, take a cushion though!
I've seen brown signs for 'Conkers' around the Measham M42 island area I think? Whenever I move house I move big time (Bedfordshire to Wales, Wales to Dorset, Dorset to Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire to Leicestershire) and I always spend the first few years in geographic limbo...

I didn't make the gig last night, so I'll have to be content with quietly whistling Matty Groves whilst scraping mud off me boots. Oh well, it may have been a wasted £22 but I did save myself a few quids worth of petrol and my usual ritual of driving around in circles and inventing new swear words to describe the Birmingham City planners...

I'm still trying to find a route from Abba to ZZ Top...

You've put two years into getting to the point that YOU feel you're ready. To me that speaks volumes. Wishing you all the very best!

Reminds me of the James Blunt story where Cher walks over to him at some glitzy showbiz do and tells him that she really admires his work... ...then comes back 10 minutes later and apologises because she had mistaken him for someone else...
Ok was setting off for a rehearsal tonight... in a major rush to get to Bristol..Heard a grinding noise as we pulled off ( i wasnt driving) so stopped to see what it was... t was my Aguilar head being pushed up the drive under the car..!! ARGH!!.. It was in its head bag...i think the bag took the brunt of the very rough tarmac.. as its been ripped apart.. there is a little scuffing on the amp itself, but nothing major and it still works...????? i sh*t you not i nearly fainted when i realised... how could i have been so stupid!!! This amp is built like a tank though...im amazed it still works... and the bag did its job in a big way..
Bleedin' heck mate, you had a dead lucky escape there! As I was reading it I was thinking you were going to be saying "does anyone know how to fix an Aguilar?" at the end of it!
I've been reading this thread with lots of interest. Anyone else read 'Electric Eden' by Rob Young? It came out last year, subtitled 'Unearthing Britain's visionary music' it's a big fat attempt to survey and explain 'folk' music in Britain. Lots of stuff about Fairport as you would expect, but it really is a good read all round. Highly recommended and not just for 'folk' fans. The author does a great job of illustrating how all music of all genres links and inter-weaves. Personally I like the Fairport with Sandy Denny on vocals and Ashley Hutchings on bass best. But we ain't going to see that band live again!
Not read it but I will track a copy down Somewhere I've got a printed 'family tree' showing all the connections between Fairport members and various other bands - the author has written a little note in the corner along the lines of "next time you b*st*rds change lineups, you can do your own bl**dy chart!" Obviously we're not gonna see Sandy again, but Ashley did play bass at a Fairport Reunion gig a little while back (Reynardine IIRC) and Simon Nicol still tours with Ashley for the Albion Christmas Band gigs so the artistic differences have obviously faded over the years.

I gotta get me one of those...
I saw Richard Thompson at Moira last year, Swarb was the support act.... They did a few songs together and I don't mind admitting that I had tears in my eyes....
Still being a bit of a 'newbie' to the area I didn't actually realise that Moira was on my doorstep until it was too late. They've got Jez Lowe this summer so I'll definately be along to catch that!
Not seen Fairport since Cropredy 1986 but almost went to see them in Loughborough the other night. I just couldn't quite bring myself to get tickets, I think its cos although they're still brilliant, it's just not the same for me without Swarb or RT....
I had a gig tuesday night when they were in Loughborough (decided they needed some competition!) or I'd have caught them there - gotta be better than trying to navigate round/through/under Birmingham... I think the current lineup is probably one of, if not the, longest running one's they've ever had. Richard Thompson obviously has his own solo career and I'm amazed Dave Swarbrick is still with us - he's a man who just refuses to give up! They do all get back together ocasionally though rather seldomly (Swarb as well!). You might still catch the old lineup...
Blimey, Bodhran and didgeridoo? That sounds like my ideal band! Actually I was once briefly in a band who had a bodhran player (no other drums) who was the band leader.... I didn't stay long, he was a tw*t!
In this corner of Leicestershire there's a 'traditional folk singer' who does the local pubs complete with didgeridoo. Longest I've managed to cope with it is about two songs then I just have to leave - usually when he starts singing "Wild Rover" and reaches for his didgeridoo for the lead solo...
