  1. I've had an outdoor gig that was originally down for July rescheduled for August 8th, pending good weather. I'll take this as it makes the grand total of 1 gig for me until the end of 2020. 😧
  2. Saw him with Eric Clapton's band, mid 1980's. Wish I'd caught him with the MG's but I'd have been too young. ( Not very often I can use that one!)
  3. I’ve noticed an increasing amount of products being described as leather when in fact they are ‘PU’ leather. Why can’t things be accurately labelled? Do VW charge the same for their new ‘leather’ upgrade as before I wonder....
  4. Haven't seen this for a while, just superb. A great reminder of what a great band Booker T and the MGs were too, especially Al Jackson as well as DD. Thanks for posting.
  5. Nathan Watts on Stevie's 'Natural Wonder' 1995 live album. Jack Daley on Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul 'Soulfire Live' album 2018 Nathan East on Eric Clapton's 2002 album 'One more car, One more rider' Garry Tallent on Springsteen's 'Live in New York City'
  6. Simple and melancholy is good for me too, though I rarely have the music in front of me....😄
  7. ‘Georgia’ is one of those songs I love, but my nightmare when someone gets up to sing. My brain always reverts to the Ray Charles version, but depending on who I’m playing with, other musicians sometimes seem to play different arrangements. This can result in car crash passing / ‘wrong’ chords, with players from a jazz background in particular wanting to make it far more complicated than it needs to be for some reason.
  8. Great album! I often feel Carl Radle was overlooked by many during his relatively short career - he died at 37, tragic.
  9. Absolutely. Makes me wonder how air travel can even be a possibility at the moment.
  10. Cheers Blue, right now I’d be happy with gigs starting again over here from early 2021.
  11. Great news, and the feeling appears to be it is more generous than anticipated. Still no news on when venues will be reopening but nevertheless a massive boost for the industry.
  12. The usual suspects for me - these are basses I’ve played which have made me question the need to pay a lot more for one. They include some SX models, Vintage (the brand!), some Squiers (VM and early Japanese era in particular) and Danelectros (quirky / not for everyone I agree). I haven’t tried any Harley Bentons although apparently great ‘bang for your buck’. The USA MM Subs are amazing value when compared to a Stingray, although hard to find a s/h one these days for much less than £500.
  13. Sadly for me, the programme was pretty lame. Rather obvious, unfunny and badly played IMHO, had to abandon it half way through. 😧
  14. You could maybe try swapping basses with a good mate for a week or two, see if that changes your feelings at all? Must admit though, a Stingray to me isn’t an easy instrument to fall out of love with.
  15. Am liking that, seem to remember seeing it now in a previous post I think. Never seen one in the flesh though. The Italia stuff all seems pretty good - I quite fancied on of their Ampeg AEB a like models, the Imola. Don't seem to see many on sale, either on here or in shops generally?
  16. More importantly, can you remember how to drive? 😄
  17. Which Italia do you have? I briefly had a Mondial and quite liked it, although don't remember it being that light. My GAS has also been stopped by not having any gigs to justify buying anything! In fact, may be having a Covid enforced cull before too long. Trouble will be which ones go / stay - those I don't regularly use but just love having , or the ones that earn money but are less 'special' to me. Decisions decisions.....
  18. Thanks Mart. I know exactly what you mean about the band thing. Not only is it my work but also a social activity too - am lucky/blessed to work with a great set of musicians and also guys in the crew who I have n't seen since March as well. We regularly have 4 week breaks from each other during December, but this now feels like an eternity. I've been walking every day in the countryside which is helping me a bit mentally, but that human interaction is still absent. I hope you manage to keep optimistic through this, and that your band can hold it together until things improve. All the best.
  19. Think that's about average for a USA Sub from my experience. Still great basses. 👍
  20. Crikey, how heavy is your P? 😆
  21. Well, perhaps inevitably, the last remaining gig in my diary for 2020 has been cancelled. Was going to be a Sunday afternoon outside with properly organised spacing and everything. However, the venue has said they can’t get a guarantee from their insurers to cover the event so that’s it. Must admit I’m pretty pis*ed off now, and am having to think about alternative employment. Even if gigs are allowed in early 2021 it’s still over 6 months away and I’ll need to earn money somehow before that. With all the regular news of companies cutting their workforce or closing completely I’m guessing what work is out there will be very much in demand. I’m 62 and have never been without work ( or claimed any benefits ) all my life, so not looking forward to it at all.
  22. My inability to gig with anything much over 7lbs or so is nature’s way for curing my GAS I think. Very limiting in what I can seriously consider basswise. Now lightweight amplification, that’s another matter.....😉
  23. Found this on iPlayer whilst looking for more Glasto stuff over the weekend. Amazing voice and performance, and also proof that Jools can play a lot more than just boogie woogie. Stunning.
  24. We use one of these in my acoustic duo. When there’s only two of you it saves one of you having to stop playing to turn the page. Works pretty well using bluetooth.
  25. I share your pain, but using a sharpie and writing each set on one side of an A4 sheet of paper still works for me. (Strangely I can usually remember what song comes next, but not the key!)
