  1. JAZZ Bass Neck with Tele Headstock, but with "Standard" Heel, including Tuners. Left-Handed, 38mm Nut.

    £50 Posted.

    Now Sold.

Please note: This sale is for a left-handed neck 38mm Nut, and left-handed tuners.

I purchased this neck and tuners for a "Dusty Hill" type P bass, but I have since been abandoned the project and decided to move these on to someone who might make use of them.

The neck is left-handed, and although it has a "Tele" shaped headstock, it has a standard rounded heel, not the usual square heel found on "Tele" necks, so this can be fitted to most standard P and J bass bodies.

It's unfinished, so it will need a final sanding before applying any finishing coat, and the nut is not glued yet, but is included.

The tuners are brand new from Northwest Guitars, they are quite decent quality, I've used these before and have found them to be very stable, staying in tune well.

Yesterday I saw Wilko Johnson, an idol of mine for many years, at Poole Lighthouse.

It’s hard not to flash back 50 years to the Dr Feelgood footage we have all seen and enjoyed, but he is now so far away from the musician he was I feel saddened. He really didn’t look like he wanted to be there, and his vocals in particular - never his strong point, I agree - were painfully off. I admit the disappointment was magnified by really poor sound - the first song was 80 per cent delivered to a dead microphone - but I have seen Wilko often enough to wish this was not my last memory of him live.

Diversion: I saw Brian Wilson in the early 2000s. The lights were on but no-one was home, and the joy of seeing him was tempered by the fact he really shouldn’t have been there. Winch him out of the huge band he was in and you’d have had the best Beach Boys tribute ever… but then they couldn’t have charged the ticket price!

Back to Wilko: Were the people who gave him a standing ovation applauding the fact he beat the odds and is still with us? Or am I the one out of step?

Summary: When should legends hang it up, and who will be the person to tell them? Opinions, please…

And here’s a pic of Wilko, bless him. Not forgetting Norman.

I am a massive Dr Feelgood fan, and I used to play in a Dr Feelgood tribute band not so long ago, but I stopped going to see Wilko around ten years ago because it was painful to see and hear him play and sing, obviously Norman was great, but Wilko's voice was excruciatingly bad, and his playing wasn't much better.

I prefer to remember Wilko and Dr Feelgood from when I used to see them in mid 70's.

  5. Messing around with a Jazz to make it pass as a Precision would be worse than playing the Jazz untouched.

It's probably the neck that you like most about your Jazz, so just get a Precision or a Precision body, and put the neck from your Jazz onto the Precision body, I've been doing it for years because I prefer Jazz necks, you would also get a more authentic John Deacon P bass tone from the split pickup.

Here's one of mine, this neck has been on a number of different coloured bodies because it feels so comfortable to me.

That would be one Malcolm 'Harry' Wragg no doubt

Went to school with Malcolm and we were in our first band together at school....small world eh

It most definitely was Malcolm 'Harry' Wragg!

We were called Stupidity, and although we didn't market ourselves as a tribute act, we only played Dr Feelgood material.

I've attached a pic of us in rehearsal (not in the marquee), where you can see Mal on the drums.

Me too, born in Ludlow....now living in Nottingham

The drummer in my previous band has a farm in Little Hereford, Ludlow, and we used to rehearse in a large marquee that was set up outside his house.

  8. I've read various threads regarding this subject, but because my brain no longer works as it used to, I'm still a bit confused. 🤔

I would like to apologise in advance for bringing this subject up again, but if someone can give me a definitive answer, it would be very much appreciated.

Question: If I was to buy an item from Thomann or DV247 worth £200, how much would I actually end up paying?

  9. Genuine Fender Gold Anodised Pickguard for Precision Bass

    £40 Posted!

Part No: 0992020000 (Made in the USA)

I purchased this for a project, it was fitted just to see what it looked like, but I then removed it and returned to it's original packaging, so apart from handling, it is more or less unmarked.

  10. Fender American Standard Bass Tuner (2 Pin)

    £20 Posted!

These are used on the American Standard basses, and I think on some other US models.

This one has "A" stamped on it, so if you are after one, make sure your other tuners are the same because some have "B" stamped on them and they are slightly different in length, even though they look the same.

  11. You beat me to it, I was watching this myself on eBay, but I obviously hesitated too long. 😉

If I had bought it, I doubt I would have done anything to it because I used to own a Japanese Precision and it was superb in every way.

  12. Fender American Standard Precision Bass (2013)

    SOLD.

I purchased this bass quite recently and it sounds amazing, but I really can't get on with the wider 'P' neck, so I have decided to move it on.

As you can see by the photos, it's in fantastic condition, and you have to look very hard to find any marks/dings etc.

No upgrades whatsoever, and comes with the original Fender hardshell case, complete with all the case candy.

You are welcome to try it out at my home in Bridgnorth, Shropshire.

The newer ones do, I'm not overly sure if they make this particular one any more, but I could be wrong. Personally I always found the jazz rear pickup a bit redundant anyway. I believe they've changed the actual pickups too. This one was classified as laklands "vintage" style p bass pickups. Sounds great to me. May have to post a video demo when I get chance.

They do still make them to order, I ordered one through GuiterGuitar in February and it's arriving today, mine is in white with matching headstock.

    Yours looks great!

I have tried the 212T with a 350 magellan head and the fact that the cab is a 4 ohm cab means all the power goes into the cab. If you have the 800 head and like the sound of 10s then I would go with the 10's.

The 2x12 would give you however all the power from the 800 watt head.

I am looking at an extra cab for my Genzler set up as I am not getting enough from the single Genzler 12.

    Stu

I used to own a couple of Genz Benz Shuttles 210's which were great sounding cabs, but I sold them and purchased a Barefaced Super Twin as a "one cab" solution, but it just doesn't do it for me, which is why I'm considering going back to 10's again.

  16. 14 hours ago, stufunkybass said:

Yep, I would go with another 2x10.

Genzler do offer a 15 in the Nu Classic series now, so that may be an option.

The 2x12 is an amazing cab. Massive low end and not that heavy either.

    Good luck with it.

    Stu

Do you have the 2x12 Stu, the reason I ask is because I haven't actually purchased the 2x10 yet, and I'm wondering whether the 2x12 could be a "one cab" solution?

I've owned 2x12 cabs in the past, but I tend to like the tightness of 2x10's.

  17. I'm thinking about adding a second Genzler cab to go with a Genzler Nu Classic NC-210T

I know it's all subjective, but I would like to hear your thoughts on what generally works best with a 2x10 cab.
