IMO rehearsals are not for learning songs, but getting the arrangements right and topping and tailing the songs. If you're paying for a studio the band has to turn up knowing the material.

Play with guys who don't need to be told.

    Agree totally!

I've had so many frustratingly bad experiences of band members having not learn't the songs so now in all my ads I state:

"I'm prepared to learn the songs properly at home beforehand, so I'm fully prepared for rehearsals and gigs"

Five years down the line, I still can't find a band, so I guess that statement might scare a lot of musicians off? 🤔

Did you order one of these necks from this particular seller?

No, it was this one, cost me £102.32 incl. shipping in January of this year, and I wasn't charged any duties etc.

It  looks like it's even cheaper now, I've just put one into my basket to see what the total cost (incl. shipping) would be, and it comes to $92.91 (£69.82).

It's a decent neck for the money.

I've just taken a punt on a medium scale conversion neck I saw on ebay to try on my P bass. Will let you all know how I get on...

(Apologies if these particular ones have already been discussed - it's a big thread!)

I did the same a few months ago, it works perfectly, especially if you fit the neck to a new body that hasn't had the bridge holes pre-drilled because you can position the bridge correctly without the old holes showing.

  4. I really do admire your work ethic. 👍

I've just come back from being in Spain for five-and-a-half weeks, but three weeks before I was due to go, I was offered the opportunity to join a tribute band, I spent those remaining three weeks learning the set.

Before I went, I enhanced the bass in all the songs so I could hear it clearly when I was laying by the pool on my sun bed, I listened to the tracks over and over again worrying that I would have to start all over again when I got home, but I was pleasantly surprised because when I started going over them, I felt refreshed, and my playing was much more fluent, so maybe a break can do good.

I'm not saying it would work for you, but it certainly did for me.

If he can do what he did replacing the truss rod in one of these - https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/maruszczyk-elwood-absolution-5a-gloss-blueburst/ - then replacing the one in your beloved Mighty Mite neck should be a walk in the park! (there's a blast from the past name, I bought a Warmoth neck in 1992 and both those names take me right back...)

I watched a video he posted the other day of him actually removing a fingerboard. It's meticulous work, methodical and steady, and explains how I literally can't see a single mark around the edge of the board. Amazing stuff.

The neck is still okay at the moment, but if the truss rod finally goes, then I will give him a shout, he's only lives a short drive from me.

I recently had a Maruzczyk whose truss rod ran out of adjustment room and the head snapped off (not a great rod on that bass at all) - and yep, I know, they work in reverse, was aware!

I got @Manton Customs to replace the rod and fit carbon strips, and the work he did was frankly amazing. This is a heavily ornamented neck, too - pearl binding all the way around. He did a great job, recommended if you want the rod replaced.

Yes, I met Robin a few years ago when he was playing bass with his band in a local pub, I didn't know him at the time but I got chatting to him because I didn't recognise the bass he was playing, turned out it was one of his own custom builds, he gets some amazing reviews.

  7. Yamaha FG420-12A 12 String Acoustic Guitar

Due to the onset of arthritis in my hands, back problems, and old age, 😕 I'm now selling off a lot of my gear.

Although painful, I can still play bass for short periods, but playing guitar is nigh-on impossible for me now, and I'm not really a guitarist anyway, so I would rather move it on to someone who will use it regularly.

It sounds amazing with a big 12-string sound, and is in excellent condition with just a couple of tiny dints that hardly notice which is to be expected on a guitar that's over thirty years old.

Very comfortable slim neck (46mm Nut).

You are welcome to come and try it for yourself at my home in Bridgnorth.

Collection is preferred because I have no case or box to ship it in, but might deliver for fuel costs.

I bought a Sonic new to mod. The Jazz neck attracted me to it. I’ve ended up leaving it totally stock and using it as a first in one of the bands I play in. It’s light, the pups sound great to me, it plays really well (lowered the action) and it stays in tune.

    Cant beat the value IMHO

If it is a Sonic, and it certainly looks like it could be, then I have to admit that they are great basses, the only reason I'm selling it is because I already have two other P basses, and the fact that I've played just one gig in the last six years, then this bass is probably one too many. 😉

  9. I listed this earlier as a Precision Bass with "unknown origin", but I've since been informed by a fellow BC'er that it might be a Squier Sonic Bass with a Fender decal applied to the headstock, so I've withdrawn it and have now re-listed it with a new description.

I purchased it some time ago from a seller on Facebook who told me he wasn't sure of it's origin, but the fact that it had a J neck appealed to me because I prefer the narrower J neck profile.

If it is a Squier Sonic Bass, then I think that £125 is a fair price because it's in excellent condition, plays well, and has powerful pickups that gives you that typical P bass tone.

You are welcome to come and try it out at my home in Bridgnorth

Collection preferred but might ship if buyer arranges the courier, or I might meet up within a reasonable distance from Bridgnorth.

Is it an American made neck with the Bullet trussrod (1974-82) ? Maybe the adjuster has been changed if so as it isn't bullet shaped

It's a Mighty Mite neck which I purchased brand new nearly twenty years ago, I've owned many high-end basses, including American made Fenders, but this neck feels so right in my hands which is why I don't want to replace it, so I was wondering if the truss rod is replaceable?

  11. I've had this jazz neck for years, it's been on loads of different bodies and is by far the best neck I've ever played, but I'm now worried that the truss rod might be coming to the end of it's life because it's now pertruding out of the truss rod slot, does it need replacing, and if so, is it costly to do so?

    Thanks.

Brain fart! I've used too much thoughts to be much good for goodly looking at things and stuff this afternoon. (Power Automate can suck it though)

Looks like it's still there on the website, so they're probably sat in a container somewhere, waiting to return. An email to SBMM might be an idea?

    Yep, that's what I might do 👍

  13. Jeff bought my Lakland bass from me and the whole transaction was smooth from start to finish.

It was a real pleasure to deal with Jeff, and he is a valuable member of our BassChat community.
