  1. Wenge Jazz Neck

    £50 Posted.

I purchased this neck along with a number of other parts for a couple of projects that never happened, they were fitted but never used.

The neck is really nice and feels great, it was fitted with a triple string retainer which I will include.

The heel is an exact fit for Fender P and J basses.

in the old days you could have got an Arts Council grant for making a movie like that.

In the old days, we probably would have been a successful psychedelic band with this kind of material.🤣

  6. We auditioned a so called experienced guitarist last week who has played for 50+ years.

He turned up and spent a good twenty minutes trying to tune his guitar and he didn't mute it whilst doing so, I always record rehearsals and auditions, and the tone you hear in this clip of him tuning is the tone he used for every song we played regardless of the type of song.

    He didn't get the gig.

Brian has just bought my Gibson SG bass from me. He was an absolute pleasure to deal with throughout,  paid straightaway and arranged the collection.

Thanks Brian - I hope you enjoy the bass

Cheers Steve, it was a pleasure mate.🙂

  8. Just received an immaculate Gibson SG Bass from Steve, the transaction from start to finish was so pleasant and efficient.

Thanks so much Steve, and all the best for the future.🙂

  9. You ask why certain artists/bands are in the Rock n' roll hall of fame, well maybe the answer is in the name, "Hall of Fame".

It's not about whether you, me, or anyone else likes the artists/bands who are in there, I'm not particularly into any of the artists/bands you mentioned either, but I know of them because they are famous because their music, so I guess that some of these "famous" artists/bands will make it into the "Hall of Fame".🫢

  10. Fender Roasted Maple Jazz Bass Neck (Loaded with Quality Parts).

    Now £225 Posted.

    Or might split.

I'm moving on lots of gear and parts due to having far too much stuff in the house.

This was for one of my many home builds, it has never left the house and I've only used the bass for a few home recordings, so it is still in pristine condition.

It feels and plays beautifully, and comes complete with the following parts which cost me a total of £375.00

Fender Roasted Maple Jazz Bass Neck

Schaller BM 4L NI Bass Tuners

    Gotoh String Tree
Graph Tech TUSQ Bass Guitar Nut & The original Fender Nut in bottom photo. The TUSC nut is not glued in and can be removed easily, both nuts slide in comfortably and are perfect fits.

I find having a pair of One10s very handy.  Just one cab is fine for rehearsals and small gigs and both for bigger gigs.

The other point is I never have to carry more than about 7.5kg.  This is important when you have a hernia. 😉

    Frank.

This is what I'm thinking, and why I asked the question.

I have one One10 which I use for home practise, it sits in the corner of the room almost unnoticed, but last week I decided to use it for a rehearsal and I was amazed at just how tight and punchy it sounded, so this got me thinking that if I had two, would they be able to cut through in a average size pub gig?

We play mainly 70's classic rock covers.

  12. La Bella LTF-4A Low Tension Flats. 042/100 (.42 .56 .75 .100) Hardly Used.

These were fitted on my Fender P bass top loaded for a couple of weeks.

I purchased these strings in November on a whim and I only used them a couple of times at home, but I prefer Ernie Ball flatwounds so I have decided to move them on.

£30 Posted, or would trade for Ernie Ball Extra Slinky Flatwound Electric Bass Strings - 40-95 Gauge.

    Cheers.

  13. Here's two I built using Fender bodies, necks, Fender Custom Shop ‘62 and Nordstrand NP4 pickups, with Schaller BM Tuners on both.

Total cost for the two = £1600

I've had many "high-end" Fenders over the years and these two play as well as any of them, and would a CS model be £4,200 better than one of mine? I doubt it.🫢

@thebrig you should feel frustrated at the ridiculous power ratings as well as the almost as ridiculous maximum sound levels. It makes rational choice almost impossible and is probably illegal in the UK but who has the power (no pun intended) or time to take legal action over false advertising.

Power ratings are a moderately complex subject to negotiate/understand. The best advice is to ignore all the claims. Not least is that each speaker will have two power limits and the ratings for amplifiers are measured in a completely different way to speakers. Another is that to keep costs down people like Alto use the same amps in all their speakers in a range which is why they claim 2,000W in their 8,10,12 and 15" cabs. The reality is that the 8" speaker will handle around 100W (and not at all frequencies) the 10 around 200W and the 12 around 300W. The manufacturers build these cabs with digital processing that limits the amp power so the speakers never get near their limits and remain reliably in one piece.

Remember that we are talking about budget level kit here compared with the £000's+ touring bands use. Even the best RCF/Yamaha gear pub bands use is more family car than formula 1. Performance at this level is clustered around a sweet spot of value for money. The idea that a £250 8" speaker is 2,000W is like saying your base level VW Lupo will go 0-60 in just over a second and has a maxumum speed of 900mph. 10 times reality. It's so ridiculous that it is laughable.

Having said that since 2-300W will drive a 12" speaker to it's full potential and a lot of budget gear is really good there is no fear involved. I had the chance to compare a 10"Alto TS10 with my RCF ART310 on Tues and they are both really good speakers, I wouldn't have any trouble using either as vocal only PA. Alto make great kit for the money and Yamaha et al are all at it in selling with over-inflated claims.

Incidentally it is very hard to get much more than 122dB out of a midrange 12" mid/bass driver so 132db SPL is a lie too. It's based upon the 2000W that doesn't exist. 132dB would almost instantaneously cause permanent hearing loss and be loud enough to be heard over a Boeing 747 20m away.

So go away and have a look at decent used 12" active cabs from Yamaha, RCF, JBL, EV etc which will do you a job for a long while. Alto, Wharfedale, HH are cheaper but still good remembering you get what you pay for Alt TX's won't match the TS range for example and the Mackie Thumps aren't up to the Mackie SRM's. Don't worry about power

Thanks Phil, I will take all you have said onboard.👍
