  1. Squier Vintage Modified Jazz in Olympic White.

Only used home home practice, never left the house.

Has a couple of small chips in the finish that were there when the bass arrived but in great condition other than that.

Would prefer collection but could travel within a reasonable distance.

I love my Fender tuner 'cos (a) it works and (b) it says 'Fender' on it. (or perhaps the other way round)

At one point I had the previous version of this (PT-10, maybe?) which didn’t have the note display in the middle. Instead it has a row of lights across the middle that would light up to show the note you were tuning to. Very difficult to use on stage.

I have a couple of Boss TU-3s but and they’re great.

Had a TC PolyTune a few years ago but I got rid of it because the switch got really noisy.

Best move i ever made. Few things make me say that.

    Pros :-

    1. i never get any interference.

    2. it doesn't affect my tone

    3. transmitter battery is charged via USB either from mains or any other source. Receiver is mains powered.

    4. simple to use, literally plug and play, its honestly that easy.

    5. built in tuner saves setting up an additional pedal.

    6. battery can be charged any time in its cycle, can be used direct from box. You don't need to fully charge first or run flat and recharge several times.

    7. if for any reason Tx fails or battery runs flat, the pedal has a jack input you can use and still have the use of the tuner.

    8. i get approx 10-12 hrs use from the battery

    9. if you forget to turn Tx off it automatically switches off after 1 hour if not being used.

    10. it transmits 3 frequencies at same time and if the selected one fails or picks up interference it switches over fast enough you wont hear anything.

    Cons :-

    1. cable from Tx to bass is very thin and may get damaged after a few yrs of use. I intend buying a spare cable.

I plug it in and totally forget about it to be honest. Its also built like a tank both pedal and Tx. Its just the small cable thing that lets it down a bit.

One other personal opinion i didn't really like the belt / strap clip but i was always gonna use my holster that's fitted to my strap.

    Highly recommended IMHO

That sounds great. Thanks for the info Dave.

  4. Haven’t seen their IOW set but I saw them on their UK tour last year when Glen had only just joined and I thought he was great! A very underrated player imo.

Debby’s voice wasn’t terrible on that tour. Sure, it’s not what it once was but, as pointed out, she’s well into her 70s now.

Side note, my friend Andee joined Blondie on guitar a couple of years ago (he’s the left-handed one) and he’s easily one of the best guitarists I’ve ever seen. Insanely talented and creative.

The time before I saw him on the Blondie tour was at a bar in Lower Manhattan where he was deppping for a band playing Blondie covers (and others). Strange how things work out.

  5. I’m self-taught. Never had a single lesson and then at some point along the journey I figured it was probably too late to start.

I’m just inside the internet generation but pre guitar lessons on YouTube so I learnt largely using MX Tabs - both their tab library and forums.

Never been concerned about bad habits or technique. As far as I’m concerned if it works, it works.

I notice that sometimes my little finger is curled (imagine the position it’d be in if you were making a fist) behind the neck. Thought it was weird until I noticed Tony Franklin doing it and decided that if it’s good enough for him then it’s certainly good enough for me.

To everyone taking one as a backup - has a backup ever been needed?

I only ever use one and Basses seem like tough/reliable things where not much can go wrong, and nothing has ever gone wrong for me. Perhaps I've just been lucky though.

I ALWAYS take two basses. In an old band I took three at one point as we had a few songs in a different tuning and it was much quicker to switch guitars.

I’ve needed to use a spare a bunch of times for various reasons but even if I hadn’t I’d still take one. As said above restringing on stage and more so the dreaded “has anybody got a bass I can borrow?” call out to the other bands on the bill looks incredibly unprofessional.

The quiet stage is the stage that sounds the best.

Of course the best sound is entirely subjective.

I love seeing a punk rock band in a basement dive bar with amps so loud that I can’t hear anything as much as I love the crystal clear sound of my IEM mix.

Eurovision goth metal, anyone? Germany's entry:

I once stayed in their singer’s apartment for a week whilst doing some shows in Germany with his old band. I would very much like them to win!

Lord Of The Lost actually covered Voyager's Promise. :D That seems to be a thing this year, the artists doing covers of the other artists!

I believe this is a thing they’ve been asked to do - cover another (past or present) Eurovision artist.

The UK entry covered Abba’s SOS.

I used to use 50-110 for standard E tuning so I’m sure they’ll be ok. The Sixxster isn’t known for flashy all over the place basslines anyway so he’s probably not that worried about tension.

I still do use 50-110 strings and tune to E. I play with a pick and am rather heavy-handed so it works for me. I’ve tried using lighter strings and I just can’t get on with them.

In fact, for a good while (until they were discontinued) I was using the Dean Markley Nikki Sixx strings, which were 50-110.

I believe he’s recently switched from Gibson to Schecter basses so maybe the heavier gauge suits the Schecters more?

  10. I’ll tend to learn the bass part first, to the point where I’m comfortable enough that I don’t have to think about playing it, then I have the brain capacity to think about the vocals.

Then after a little while I can do both without thinking.

  11. I’ve been using Couch seatbelt straps for over a decade now. They’re vegan and make from recycled seatbelts with the tabs made from recycled car seat vinyl.

My only issue is that a few years ago they started cutting them a bit shorter so if I order one now I have to do it as a custom order and have it made longer. Only adds around $12 iirc.

For straplocks I have Schallers on everything. I have previously had issues with the nut on strap part coming loose but I started putting a bit of Loctite on there and then tightening with players. Safe as houses, as they say.

The whole of Stop Making Sense is a masterclass as far as I’m concerned. Cities and Found A Job especially.

I was also going to recommend watching all of this.

As well as Tina’s fantastic playing it’s also a really well done live show.
