  1. Singer from my band plays Charvette guitars. He has about 12 of them. All orange, all the same model, all slightly different. Different pickup configurations, different neck profiles etc.

Some have fixed bridges but some have tremolo bridges. He doesn’t use the term so he’s found ways of keeping the bridges in place. Some have bits of wood jammed in the back. At least one has a rock that he found in the car park of the studio he was recording in when he was having issues.

Most have been in there for 20+ years without issue.

Instead of replacing it straight away, try putting on 2 or 3 trussrod washers. This will give you a few extra turns and usually solve the problem. It's a standard fix and costs only pennies (well, couple of quid probably).

Just undo and take off the trussrod nut, place washers over the rod thread, then put the nut back on and slowly tighten it to the ballpark of where you had it before, gently flexing the neck straight as you do to take the load off the trussrod as you go. Fine tune from there.

    Hope that makes sense!

I’m not paying for the replacement so that’s the first choice. But if that doesn’t come off I’ll give this a try. Thanks.

  3. I have a bass with a Mighty Mite Precision neck. I really like the neck but the problem is the neck is bowed and the truss rod is maxed out.

I’m in the process of trying to arrange a replacement but I don’t want to get one and have the same problem.

Since I know there are a good few people on here who build their own basses I wanted to ask if anyone has used these necks and if you’ve experienced this before? Hopefully it’s not a common thing.

    Cheers!

My old band Knock Off have decided to part ways with their bassist so have asked me to help them out until they get a permanent replacement.

Am looking forward to it, though coaxing that old aggressive sound out is a challenge as now playing Fender JMJ Mustangs rather than Precisions for my backs sake, plus my hands can’t take that battering playing style anymore, am sure I’ll find a way though.

Some good gigs lined up (Cocksparrer on May 31st in Islington being the first one up) and will be nice to catch up with a lot of people I’ve not seen since I left at end of 2019.

This is cool. Hope you enjoy it!

Although I am a bit sad that they’re no longer the world’s only band where every member is called Andy!

Tonight I saw a metal band who had a guitarist, singer, drummer and bassist on stage. Throughout their set, I could clearly hear a second guitar (lead), synth, backing vocals and possibly extra drums. It was all their own original music.

It seemed like too much of what I was hearing wasn't live. What's the opinion on this?

Depends on the situation. With modern metal bands it’s 100% normal to have a fair amount on track. Even the really big bands do it and it’s just accepted.

However if your average punk band turned up with tracks it wouldn’t go down well.

  6. Fat Mike is a great bass player.

He has a really weird quirk where he plays mostly upstrokes, which he puts down to never being shown or told how to play and working it out for himself.

He also does a weird thing where he moves his right hand in a circular motion when picking parts like The Decline intro.

    Unconventional to say the least!

I think he talks about it a bit here

My mate who was on bass - and had agreed to do it with a few run throughs over a couple of weeks - got lost at one point so he played all the notes he’d missed extra extra fast to catch up rather than just play the part where he actually was.

This makes no sense whatsoever! 😂

Shops that sell camping equipment should be able to replace a broken zip, or recommend somewhere local to get it done. Cobblers (those that mend shoes the old-fashioned way...) may be able to help, too. For those 'in the know', replacing zips is not rocket surgery. Hope this helps. :friends:

I hadn’t even considered that. Thanks!

  9. Not sure whether this should be here, Amps and Cabs or Accessories so please move if this isn’t the place.

I have a Fender Rumble 500 head (not the combo) but the zip on the case has been bust for years. Today I contacted Fender about a replacement but they said they don’t make them anymore and suggested an aftermarket option. I had a quick search and not much popped up.

Just wondered if anyone else had one of these and had ever managed to find a suitable case for it?

Have to say - other issues aside  - recruiting a female singer was in so many respects a very good decision 👍

I have to say I’m not really a fan and never listened to anything after Hybrid Theory so I don’t have much of an opinion, although I didn’t think the live clips I saw were great. But many of my friends are big fans and aren’t happy about it for various reasons. At the same time I have no doubt that they’ll all buy the record and the tickets once they get over it.

I love the original LP, but something tells me that this will not go well for them. I read a lot about the case in questiom at the time and the thoroughly horrible tactics us by Scientology to blame, intimidate, and threaten the victims and witnesses. Only the person in question will know how far she actually went, and none of us can speak to that. But if this grows as we’ve seen in previous digging up of past misdemeanours, I think it could be bad for LP. Which is what I meant when I wrote ‘Of all the people they could have chosen’ 👍

Personally I think that whatever level of detail emerges about this it won’t do them any harm at all. I think they’re one of those bands that are so big that the vast majority of their fans won’t care about this at all.

I think more people will be bothered that they have a female singer and that she isn’t Chester than they will about her personal life.

And they’ll still be playing stadiums.

  12. It wasn’t last night but a few weeks ago I saw Death From Above 1979 for the first time. They were touring for the 20th anniversary of ‘You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine’ which they played in full followed by some more songs.

We went to the Manchester show and it was so good that when my gig got cancelled a few weeks later I went to see them again in Birmingham.

The first show was one of the best I’ve seen in 25 years of going to shows. The second was just as good but it didn’t have the magic of the first time seeing them.

Jesse Keeler’s bass sound is absolutely incredible. Monstrous.

We were right at the front but more over the other side of the stage.  You knocked it outta the park mate.  Thank you.

Sorry, I wasn’t paying enough attention and thought it was Lozz’s post 🤦‍♂️

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it and enjoy the rest of your weekend too!

Im not there Joey, but have to extol the virtues of one of the best bands around. Hope alls well with you & the chaps.

All good thanks mate! How about you? Hope to catch you soon!

  14. Sorry to hear that, Jack. Sounds like a nasty injury but I hope you heal well!

As mentioned above, Django Reinhardt used only two fingers on his fretting hand. Tony Iommi lost the tips of some of his fingers. Rick Allen lost an arm etc.

If you have the will, which it sounds like you do, then you can retrain yourself should the worst happen.

But for now stay positive 💪

  15. I haven’t seen Green Day for 20 years (on the American Idiot tour) and wasn’t able to make it to this one.

However I do like that Mike is playing a Grabber for the Dookie songs. Not the original (as I seem to remember reading years ago that it had been stolen) but still cool. Billie Joe is playing the BJ Strat for those songs too.
