1. Stone Deaf PDF-1X. I LOVE this thing. https://www.pedalempire.com.au/products/stone-deaf-pdf-1x-ltd-edition-mcbess-artwork My basic setup - HPF/comp/Octave > STONEDEAF > Dirt section > rest of the board. My main use right now is an EQ adjustment from my main tone to kick in and out, with the "dirt" footswitch giving me a boost for big sections. The ability to use this thing for anything from EQ adjustments, boost/cut, notch-filter, cocked-wah etc. It's a ripper of a pedal, but does have a learning curve, so I'd be reluctant to bring it to a gig without getting to know it first. I've currently got it on my guitar-board, but I feel it's going onto my gig/bass-board soon.
 2. FTT Black Vehicle is my fave drive after 20 years of buying/selling drive pedals. Haven't even looked for another drive pedal since I got it a couple years ago, as this works with all my basses and amps, rounds & flats. Love it.
 3. I tend to prefer individual effects for my core sound, simply so I can very quickly and easily tweak to whatever room I'm playing in, or which band I'm playing with, or simply rip something out if I have technical problems. I think my gigging bass board will always be fairly simple so I can focus on playing and singing. Being able to change something in a split second, is the main reason I've stayed away from multi's on my main board. Recently just bought HX Stomp for my guitar/fun board. Will join a Future Impact & Midi controller. No idea how this might change my thinking. Seatbelt is on!
 4. FTT Black Vehicle (which includes a boost), a Fuzz & a Strymon Mobius would have me set
 5. Thanks, I may just end up buying and flipping it if it doesn't do the job. Cheers
 6. Hi everyone, There's a 90's re-issue ORANGE PA120 for sale close to me, an I'm really keen to get some more info. It's goin really cheap! FWIW, I love the old 70's OR120's for guitar n bass alike, but I've never even seen a P120 in the flesh before. Anyone used one? Heard on? Even an old vintage one? Anyone used it for bass or guitar? Thanks
 7. Heath said something over on OZbass, that the website was something he just never got time to maintain, so the facebrick was a better option for him. AFAIK, he's been a very busy fella working on new designs and such. RE: New pedal doing a tour, you could always ask? I've owned a few of Heath's pedals, they're great IMO
 8. Hi peeps, So I'm thinking of getting a birthyear bass - and I love P-basses (who doesn't). I've read a few differing opinions on the build quality of 1980 P-basses though, so I was wondering if anyone out there knew much about basses around that time period? Is there a certain model to go for? One to avoid? Cheers guys.
 9.
Ha ha, i did not know we had voclas either. Defenitly caught us by surprise. The vid/audio were captured through an old Sony digital camera. I don't know why, but the mic on that thing is pretty decent at capturing high SPL levels.
Just out of curiosity - what settings did you use on the amp in this recording?
 10. I thought you guys had no vocals? Nice vids - and the audio is pretty clear for being so close. What did you use to record those clips?
 11. I had this same lack of fullness - and no amount of pedals or preamps ever changed it. Then I got a passive P-bass and dressed it up with TI Jazz Flats. Now I have that 'sound-in'my-head' after years of constantly fiddling with my setup. Get some flats if you don't already.
 12. As far as stomp-style preamps, the DHA stuff, and of course the VT bass would be my first choice. I've used both with my tube slave with good results - and of course you get a nice DI signal too..... As far as tube power amps...... vintage may be the cheaper (and over-engineered) way to go.
 13.
though I would share some more clips. Recorded through the camera mic so not the greatest but there are some spots that you can get a taste of the matamp tone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKZsa24gDWY
Nice man. Cheers for that. You guys happy without a singer?
 14.
I seem to be the only person who thinks the deepest depth setting has way too much bass D:

I pretty much think that as well Fin - I'm always in the middle of the depth with full drive. Treble at 1 o'clock and bass at 11 o'clock with presence at about 2 o'clock. I play with a plec. What about your settings?
I've read a few things regarding this here on BC; Does the GAIN have a big effect on the amount of bass in the amp? Does the presence affect the bass a lot too? If you were going for a nice clean setting - does the amp still offer too much bass for you guys?
 15.
Try a Sansamp VT into something fairly transparent (like any of the other rigs you mention).
^^^^^^ Defo. I ran a VT bass into a tube slave when trialling out an Ampeg V4b only a few weeks ago. The Ampeg was no different in tones I found useful .... the VT had it covered, and it literally sounded sooooooooo similar it was uncanny.
 16. Okay, got a message back from the distributor in Aust., Seems due to the current exchange rate; The Ampeg SVT-VR and Orange AD200B are more expensive than the Matamp. The SVT-CL is only slightly less IF I agree to buy one from across the other side of the country.... So really, the Matamp is no longer the expensive option. What happened to the pound??!?! I remember when the exchange rate was so mean you had to kidnap a rich kid, bash a pensioner and work the streets for a while to afford one.........not that I'm complaining. Decisions...........
 17.
OK, Just returned from Matamp, and this is my finalized order; 1 GT200, Standard innards, with white fascia and large black Matamp underscore logo. "Hand built in Great Britain", with small union jack logo in right hand corner. Black basket weave vinyl with white piping. All hardware in chrome. Amp box front square, not bevelled Mock up-
Sounds great. Have you received it yet? I'm almost getting my head around what custom options I'm going to order for a GT200 too. When you say bevelled/front box square etc. - what do you mean?
 18.
I play the GT200 through a vintage Ampeg 8x10. I'm Canadian though so that's OK . Mostly tune half a step down sometimes i will drop the E string to C#, extra light gauge flats (Labella 760FX) on Lakland Bob Glaub or 4001 Ric. Sometimes I play a MIJ P-bass with DR SS Lo-Riders too.
Canadians are o.k. You guys and gals get subtle humour! I'll promise not to call you american BTW - if an american is a sepo/yank, an englishman is a pom\limey, whats a canadian?
Shoot them a message and see if they'll do a KT88 amp, or have one in the works. The the person sending those have consistently odd spelling/phrasing by any chance?
Good Idea. I'll have to see... See if they're willing to have a crack at it, bearing in mind it would have to be re-tuned for bass use. ...and yes and no. Two of the messages was I-lit-er-it with typo's galore with NOTHING BUT CAPS LOCK AND YELLING!!!!!!!! AND LOTS !!!!! OF !!!! EXCLAMATIONS!!!!!!!, ........the other 2 were a little less flag waving and pretty neat, but all together made me LOL so they're welcome all the same.
 19.
These make the right claims.
LOL. Good point. Awesome amps - but not quite the amp I'm looking for. I have played through an original OR120 before (with bass), and whilst it's the best stoner rock amp for guitar EVER!!!!, it's not quite what I'm after for bass. Awesome mid-range, but the bottom is just a little bit too fuzzy at the volumes I play at.
Slave,if you're looking around anyway, not completely settled on Matamp there is the Reeves Custom 225. Made in the US.As you're going to buy from overseas anyway.. Maybe you have looked at that already? http://www.reevesamps.com/custom225.htm And some reviews: http://www.reevesamps.com/assets/articles/...arCustom225.pdf http://www.reevesamps.com/assets/articles/51807_eprint.pdf
I've been emailing the Aussie distributor of Matamp so far..... Q&A all that stuff. I am having a look at what else is out there Stoner rock is where I'm at. Kinda why I'm keen on the Orange/Ampeg/Matamp tones. The Reeves is a cool looking amp (emailed them a ways back) cos I do dig clean-ISH to OD tones (not amp-fuzz) I'll have to have a closer look. But; I thought this was an english site? ......are you telling me the british aren't as patriotic as the americans???? When I posted a questions about Matamp over on TB, I got PM's telling me that only a limey b*^@h would buy an amp like that, "just buy an ampeg man!" Didn't surprise me that much.....but I got a handful of PM's stating the same thing. I'm pretty much compelled NOT to buy an ampeg on that basis alone. Afterall, it's just an amp. It doesn't come with a national anthem when it's made in Vietnam! .......anyways. All of your Matamp owners out there.... What kind of cabs and tuning do you use?
 20.
looked into Morgan Amps?
Actually I have. Very light weight from what I hear. I've read a lot of other things online about them too, but then I don't like to repeat hype from others, I'd rather only relay my own experience on things. Anyone else? If only I could find an Aussie amp builder in Australia who could offer anything close to the Matamp in terms of quality and tone......and the weight of the Morgan. Hmmmm.....
 21.
What self respecting British amp builder would use the all American tube?
LOL. Learn something new everyday.
 22. Another query; Do all GT200's come with KT88's? I hear KT-88's are easier to bias, and are more stable over time than 6550's.... so I assume this is why Matamp uses them currently. Has anyone tried theirs with 6550's?
 23. Yep - It's all about the tube power section. Congrats. All these hybrid amps with their tube pre's are missing the point. I'd rather have a SS pre with a tube power section than the other way around.
 24. I had a different one - the VT1-EQ-Bassdrive. The Bass knob was centered pretty low (think THUMP). I liked it. Dave is simply one of the best pedal guys I have ever dealt with - excellent communication, and very honest replies - and I'm saying this from Australia!
 25.
How much power will I lose? Is that possible to work out? Will it be that noticeable or not? Thanks
I've used a regular VT for years with a tube slave. The VT has quite a LOT of volume on tap - especially if you have the gain up a bit. Just make sure the amp you buy has some extra headroom and you should be okay. If the VT is incapable of driving massive volumes, the poweramp will need to be set a little louder. If you have the extra headroom, you'll be fine.... but it may increase any noise (hiss etc.) just a little. If you're still not sure, just try it out? I find I have my VT significantly set lower than unity, so I can get just the right sound with my tube slave.....
