  1. Fender Precision Pickups From 1979 USA Bass

This pickup was taken from a scruffy ‘79 P bass I bought and modded some years ago. I’m having a clear out and no longer need it. It works very well and is wired to a set of pots and capacitor from a more modern Precision. It is mounted onto a US Corona scratchplate. The original brass ground plates are included.

UK postage only. Please note that the foam at the back of the pickups has perished slightly and become sticky over the years. Cosmetic only. All wiring is intact.

Thanks for looking. Postage at buyer’s cost.

  2. Selmer Czech 1/2 Size Double Bass Mid 20th Century Plus Gig Bag & Bow

I traded this around 10 years ago for a MIJ Fender Precision Bass and it has been my ‘go to’ bass for many years. Heavily gigged and recorded for Bluegrass and Rock ‘n’ Roll. It was bashed about when I first got it but my luthier sorted it out and although it’s not too pretty it does sound very good. The pickup was added by myself and I used it in combination with a Trace Elliot TAB preamp to get the best amplified sound. It isn’t massively loud as it is a small bass however it has a lovely warmth and tone and can hold its own in acoustic settings. It’s set up to my tastes and has a combination of Rotosound (E/A) strings and silver slaps (D/G). I do have some spares too if I can find them. The bag is good quality though having been transported a lot it has scuffs and frayed edges. Zips and pockets work and there is a cheap bow included.

The bass is pretty old as it has the old style hat pegs as well as brass tuners. The body has numerous repairs and cosmetic marks. It is a flat back instrument. The shape is different from my more modern bass and looks like a gigantic violin.

I’m not sure how to price it so let me know if this is way out. I believe half size instruments aren’t as desirable but this is a good compromise for travelling and it will fit in most small cars with ease. I have carried it to gigs without too much pain!

Pickup from Lancaster us a must I’m afraid and no trades.

Lots of pics of it. Selling because I have not been able to play it since my left hand developed tendon issues. I’ll be sad to see it go but it’s time to recognise that I will not play it seriously again.

  3. Downsizing means that I’m selling some of the basses I love but rarely play. This is my Hofner 500/1 ‘Violin’ Bass, forever associated with one of our greatest national treasures. I used this extensively when recovering from a shoulder injury. It meant I could gig pain free but it actually worked well as a double bass replacement too in my rockabilly band.

This is a late 70’s early 80’s example with the powerful blade pickups. It is a German made bass and has some beautiful figuring to the back and sides. It is fully functional, super light and is reasonably balanced for a shorty. There is a Hofner replacement scratchplate included but not mounted and a recent Thomann shaped and padded case - that is far superior in terms of protection than the official version.

There are lacquer cracks as is expected in these examples however no major dings and the neck is lovely. It’s strung with Hofner flats that really give you that authentic 60’s sound!

When I bought it it had had the most inappropriate tuner replacement you could imagine, fortunately however it was easy to put this right using the correct type tuner of this era. The mounting screw holes were filled and sealed and are unsightly but out of audience sight at the back of the headstock. I’m sure a pro luthier could get the cosmetics sorted out if necessary. No further mods have been made. Neck joint, trussrod and frets are excellent.

German Hofners have skyrocketed recently but I’ve priced this with the minor repair in mind. No trades, pickup preferred. UK only.

  4. Sandberg California Lionel Short scale Bass in soft aged sunburst.

This 22 fret short scale is as it left the factory with soft aged ‘road worn’ finish and aged hardware.
It is beautifully constructed. Fabulous quality components and playability from this respected German manufacturer. Plays as good as it looks and has a nice P bass growl from the simple passive circuit. It is currently strung with Fender short scale round wound nickel strings 40-95 gauge. Complete with Sandberg gigbag, Allen keys and manufacturer’s card and tag.

It weighs 3.7kgs and balances perfectly. This is a very well thought out smaller instrument a serious contender for best contemporary short scale bass.

Pickup preferred but I can post at buyer’s expense. Note that this is a custom finish option with the position dots and aged finish. A one off bass.

Frets, trussrod and neck are excellent. No trades sorry.

  5. Trace Elliot TAB 7 band graphic EQ and preshape pedal. Operated by two 9v batteries or PSU (not supplied). Heavy duty construction and sounds great. It’s been used for many years so paintwork is scruffy and there is some static noise when operating the sliders and shape switches but no hum or interference when the controls are set. Used for double bass as a signal booster and eq shaper with one of those multicoloured preamp leds to easily set the input gain. Very versatile pedal for acoustic or electric bass and other acoustic instruments. I used one of these as my recording preamp for years with no issues. I can post in the UK at buyer’s cost. Thanks

  6. Markbass blurb….This compact bass combo is small but its power should not be underestimated! The Markbass Minismark 802 Bass Combo delivers astonishing volume and power through an impressive 150W when it's used alone and reaches an astonishing 250W when combined with an extension cab. The perfect choice for rehearsing, practising or even teaching, the Minimark sports two 8” custom B&C neodymium woofers and an on-board piezo tweeter.

The Markbass Minimark 802 Bass Combo is more than capable for you to use within a gigging environment. The compact amp section includes level control, VLE and VPF filters, aux in, headphone out, speaker on/off switch, and balanced XLR line out. This combo amp boasts an incredibly small size and weight, which enables you to even take this bass combo with you to a gig on public transportation.

Great little combo in good condition the carpet covering has a few bonus cat hairs!

part of my gear clean out.
Pickup preferred but could post at buyer’s cost.

  7. The action is pretty low on this and there is certainly room for adjustment. The pots are fine, no issues with the pot shafts or crackle. I set it up to my tastes so action is very comfortable, the fitted - presumably stock - strings are fairly heavy however. I’ve not changed them. The extra scratchplate hole does go into the body. My only criticism is that the tuners feel cheap and had I been keeping this I would have upgraded to Hipshots or Schallers, they do the job and don’t rattle or anything! I can post it for around £22 parcelforce.

  8. Sterling by Musicman Short-scale Stingray

Lovely short-scale bass in Daphne blue with Fender gig bag. Plays great. No damage or issues other than an extra drilled hole on the scratchplate where a thumb rest was fitted by the previous owner. I’m moving house so a lot of gear recently purchased is getting sold on.

These are lovely light basses and are really easy to play lots of YouTube videos about them. Great build quality too.

I would prefer pickup in person but can post in the UK only at buyer’s expense.

  9. Fender MM Nate Mendel Precision Bass & Bag

This 2018 bass is in excellent condition and comes with all the original case candy and Foo Fighters spare neck plate. It’s a lovely sounding bass and has subtle wear to it that gives it the look of a genuine early seventies instrument. It is currently strung with Daddarios but a set of old heavy gauge strings are included too. It has the Fender hi-mass bridge. It weighs just over 4kgs and is a nicely balanced instrument.

I’d prefer pickup in person but can post in the UK at buyer’s cost if necessary. This is part of my ‘if it’s going to be gathering dust - sell it!’ gear cull. Sorry no trades.

  10. A lovely Ernie Ball Musicman 5 string bass in a beautiful transparent teal colour.  According to the serial number it was built on Valentine’s Day 1995 and presumably put together with love as it is a beautifully made instrument with a great neck and tons of tone from the ceramic pickup. It has a three band EQ with the three position switch similar to my Sterling. The neck is shallow and string spacing 17.5mms, very low action and the trussrod functions as it ought to. Little fret wear as it has only been played very occasionally since new and no dings other than minor scuffing marks from play. It has a very tight and big sounding low B but is well balanced throughout its range. It comes with a none original case. The bass is a pretty good weight for a Stingray 5 at a tad under 10lbs. The strap buttons were changed before I owned it to schaller ones. There are no strap locks included unless I can find some in my parts box.

I used to play 5 strings years ago but my fretting hand tendon issues mean that this instrument is being neglected.

I am not looking for trades and I’d prefer pickup in person as it’s a valuable instrument but would box and post within the UK only at buyer’s cost.
