1. MMM difficult one this trying to honestly assess yourself, but here goes! GOOD Good feel Good listener to other band members Good Gear NOT SO GOOD Limited theory Not much variation Bad back (need help with gear!) Cant solo much
2. After a couple of rehearsals and a gig last night have to say what a phenomenal bass my new LX4 is. Exceded my expectations by miles! It hangs well (ooer missus!) and the sound is fantastic! Sorry its all subjective but I was totally blown away at how good it is. This was backed up by many compliments on the sound from the audience. If any one tells me there is a similiar deal on a fretless it will be hard not to get the plastic out! D
3. 4,5,6,7 or whatever its a personal choice that only you can make. We can all relate our preferences and experiences. I played a 4 for 20 years then switched to a 5 for 4 years then switched back to a 4 because aodly enough felt more free and creative and it. D
4. Just had a text from the missus, a big parcel has arrived for me!! Unfortunately its my 5 year old daughters birthday and she was a little dissapointed that the big parcel wasnt another birthday present! Cant wait to get home! Dunc
5.
Does anyone know what's left out there in Reverb land? Pics of the new acquisition once some gold control knobs make their way through my letterbox later in the week. She's a beauty!!! Mike
Does any one know if there are any fretlesses in the sale? Either a rebop or any of the spectorcores in Glasgow? Dunc
6. Couldnt resist, just bought an amberburst LX4 from Brum - think it was the last one. Been deliberating since news of the deal came through, fortunately it coincided with a little windfall. Spare cash and fantastic deal doesnt happen often! Cant wait! Dunc
7. Hi The Towcester Midsummer Music Festival Starts tonight. My band TVision is playing the vicarage gardens on Saturday from 7.30 through till 10.00. Dont worry if you get bored with us there is a cross section of music across 11 sites! Proceeds to charity D http://icnorthants.icnetwork.co.uk/towcest...-name_page.html
8. I think IIRC that he strings his bass EADGC rather than the regular BEADG D
9. Beers on you after Saturday!
10. Just popped into my local PMT at Northampton and tried out the JLo hyperdrive. Initial impressions, very solidly built piece of kit. Tried it out for 20 mins and have ended up buying it! The clincher £49! Think I may have had the last one! Will post some impressions in the future D
11. +1 for the Dean. I have the Dean Edge 5 fretless which I got new a couple of years back for £275. For the money you cant go wrong. Its better than the Yamaha RBX and Aria I had before D PS check the pic in my avatar
12. Yeah, best wishes, hope things start to get better D
13. +1 for Status. I just bought some of their hotwire strings which were delayed due their supplier. I had one phone call and 4 emails keeping me informed. Impressive for £25 worth of business. I wish other suppliers would take note as I know where I will go when I have the big bucks to treat myself D
14. My Fave Jaco work is on Joni Mitchell's album Hejira - phenomenal and inspiring fretless D
15.
For the likes of me, age 47 wth 33 years of playing fretted bass under my belt, the fretless is a very strange animal indeed
. I am a little youger at 45 with 25 years of playing bass! Twice in the past I have failed when trying to add a fretless to my arsenal. However a couple of years ago I tried for a third time and it clicked so dont think that all time on fretted will preclude you from the fretless. It is different but can be the right choice in a number of places. I play mostly in a contemporary christian music setting and for the slow contemplative numbers its perfect. Must try it with some of the more up beat numbers though - I've never thought about trying it for them, thanks! Dunc
16. I may be being influenced by the fact that this gig was one of the best I can remember but I shall now try restringing my fretless 5 as EADGC before deciding whether to offload it in favour of a fretless 4. The thing I love about music is that its a continual road of learning. Whoops now I am sounding like the tw*t! D
17. Having played 4 string bass for 20 years I switched to a 5 five years ago and adjusted no problem. However a couple of weeks ago switched back to my 4 after the jack plug on my 5 went. After a couple of rehearsals had the best gig for years on Sunday night. It may sound bizarre but I found more freedom playing the 4 compared to my 5. Dunno if anyone else has found this but lookd like my 5 may be up for sale! Dunc
18. I have an Edge 5 fretless which I would recomend to anyone. D
19. +1 very nice rig! D PS £199 at Sound Control!!
20. Nothing too outrageous but I fancy a TRB5/6 and either a Bongo or SR5 D
21.
Dont you mean 4 ohm? You will need 4ohm load each channel to get full capability IIRC.
No and yes !! The cabs will be 8 ohms (not sure that suitable 10" drivers are available as 4 ohm) so yes full power isnt available. It will be more like a total of 300W. This should be loud enough though the BFD cabs are typically 3db more sensitive anyway! D
22. At the mo am going through a MAG 410. Volume was loud enough at a loud reheasal and we have good foh at gigs. I am however in the process of building a couple of BFD omni 10.5's which will give me two 8 ohm 1x10 250W cabs D
23. Yes I did and am very pleased with it too. After reading the manual (ahem!) dialled in a nice sound last night, even got positive comments from our vocalist/rhythym guitarist. D
