1. Ok, so I need a very cheap amp that can handle gigging small/medium rooms. I used to have a Peavey TNT 115 but I sold it; too big and heavy. I've been looking around at other options but not getting anywhere. Can someone suggest some amps to me? I'm playing pretty much all genres at the moment so it needs to be an all-rounder. Max budget of £250, which is pretty low, but I'm looking at second-hand stuff. I've been looking at things like Hartke Kickbacks and Fender Rumble 150s, but I'm not sure. It needs to be super-portable (bad back, no car, rely on buses and the Tube), or as portable as possible. Thanks!
2. I want to try flats on my Stingray. I want to take the very top end off the sound, still get a modernish sound but I'm wanting to primarily get a motown/jazzy tone from it. I use Overwater Nickel rounds at the moment so was considering their flats. Anyone have any experience? Or any other recommendations. I've not used flats before so I don't know anything about them.
3. Huh, I never noticed those modulations when I listened to the track before.
4.
Its the first chart in Standing in the Shadows of Motown. Where have you guys been?
I never said I looked very hard...
5. Excellent! Been looking for this for a while, thanks.
6. Bump. It's the cheapest ME-50B here! Go on...
7. I'm selling my Boss ME-50B. It's a great unit but I don't need 90% of what it has to offer, so I'm slimming down to a few stompboxes. Comes with a box but no power supply. http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/ME-50B/ £80 + £5 Postage Ibanez PD7 Phat Hed Bass Overdrive. Great heavy distortion and overdrive sounds, selling because I don't use overdrive any more. Also comes with a box, but no power supply.http://www.ibanez.com/electronics/model-PD7 £35 + £2 Postage I'm looking for a decent filter, something like a Micro Q-Tron, so I may be open to trades if you have something I'll like! I'm in Uxbridge in West London, so Londoners can either pick up from my house or I could meet somewhere central. Payment-wise, I can take cheque, bank transfer or cash on colletion. Thanks!
8. Figure I may as well post in here! I'm considering flats for my Stingray. I have an Ibanez BTB406 that I can get some really nice modern tones out of, so I'm wanting a mellower sound for jazz, R&B, soul, Motown etc. I use Overwater nickels on my Stingray at the moment, and I love them, best strings I've played. Does anyone have experience of Overwater's flats? At the moment it's between those and some D'Addario Chromes.
9. The only problem is that it's a 2005 and I bought it in early 2006.
10. Tell me about it >_< It's exactly the same issue as before.
11. Well, now it's completely dead. I put a new battery in, sorted out the action etc. and tried it out at a rehearsal today. Worked great for an hour or so, it almost sounded like the bass I fell in love with, then it died suddenly. I've got a short video here showing the kind of thing it's doing. It's intermittent at the moment, but I can't think it'll be long before this is all it will do (like before). Sorry for the poor quality but it gives a good enough idea. 12.
This preamp is very simple, can be easily fixed and I cannot imagine that it costed more than e.g. £30 (no matter what was wrong with it). How do you know that it was not replaced? Usually in such cases I don't suspect preamp but rather wires (bad soldering), pickup switch, pots, output jack or battery. Mark
I posted a photo of the solder on TalkBass and someone told me that it's the original board (it says SR 3EQ or something similar).
That has been re soldered badly, looks like there will be more than a few dry joint (solder not forming full contact between board and component) I would contact MM customer service they have a great reputation. Dont give up on the brand because of a cowboy.
Yeah, I thought that. I mean, I know nothing about electronics but the re-soldering just looks really messy. I'm not going to give up on the brand; I love MM basses. I've been considering selling this and buying a new 'Ray if I can't get it back to how it was.
Was the bass second hand or new when you purchased it?
It was new, but the default set up when I got it was pretty much perfect. This neck issue is only in the last month or so. I put it down to the cold at first, but my Ibanez BTB406 and my Fender Strat don't seem to be having any issues with it.
13. Here's the component side: And here's the solder: The shop was CC Music in Glasgow.
14. I have a 2005 Stingray. I got it in early 2006, and it was great, all the bass I could ever need or want. But after about 18 months the circuit board fried itself and it wouldn't work at all. I took it to a shop in Glasgow, and, long story short, got ripped off. I was charged £150 for a new circuit board, which I found out a couple months ago, was never installed. All he did was resolder some of the board, and not very well I don't think. Since then, it's never sounded as good as it did when I first got it; it's been pretty flat tone wise, the E sounds dead (even with new strings) etc. Now, in the last month or so, it won't hold a set up. I adjusted the action, and a couple of days later the strings were resting on the frets, so below the 9th fret you get nothing but choked strings. I readjusted, and the same thing happened. Basically at the moment it's unplayable. Every now and then the signal cuts out or gets distorted to some degree, which I'm putting down to a crappy repair job. Does anyone have any idea what could be up with it? Do I need a new board or was it just repaired badly?
15. Got any photos? I have a 2004 BTB406 and I love it. I'd love to try a 676.
16. I'm after a new gig bag. Had a quick look through this thread but not really found anything I'm looking for (really can't afford $200+ for a gig bag). I have an old CNB bag that's fallen to pieces on me so I'm after a bag that's as durable as possible, max £60 I'd say. Would quite like one that has nice wide straps; my basses are heavy and I have a bad back. I play an Ibanez BTB406QM and a Musicman Stingray 4 if that affects my choices? My teacher told me to check out Warwick cases; his is starting to fall apart but he's had it for 10 years. That's the kind of thing I'm after. Also looking to invest in a small head (EA Micro or something similar), so would like to be able to fit things like that, scores etc. in the bag too. Thanks!

18. I used to love my StingRay until the preamp destroyed itself. Never sounded as good since I got it repaired
19. Hi there! I'm Phil, a music student living in London. I play most styles of music (not ventured into jazz just yet...), and I've just joined a synth-rockish band, which is a whole new thing for me. I also write ambient music with a guitar. The main gear I use is as follows: 2005 MusicMan Stingray 4 3EQ 2004 Ibanez BTB406QM Boss ME-50B Boss RC-50 I can't afford a proper bass rig at the moment or for the forseeable future so I'm playing through a practice guitar amp at home, and I'm looking to replace my ME-50B with stompboxes. Suggestions for cost effective effects and (relatively) cheap, ultra-portable/tube-friendly rigs are welcome!
