1. Hello boys I've just had a go and I got a "bass apprentice" scoring. More practice required me thinks ..... Try having a look at http://practicesightreading.com/ and http://practicesightreading.com/ I find these very usefull
 2.
Get over to our Bass clef YTS thread (in general bass chat) Chilievans you can see what we are on about here and how the experienced guys know nothing at all! For instance whats involved with a grade 4? I have no idea what level I would be but as (currently) I cant read I guess I couldnt even try?
Thanks Pete. Great little game that
 3. I've a long road to travel but I'm loving the journey
 4. There are a lots of very advanced and informative players on bass chat who are always willing to share their wisdom but how many beginners do we have? Personally I've been bitten by the bug (again) in September after a 6 year break and I'm about to take my grade 4 exam (March 20th). As I don't have a lot of spare time (always playing with my baby) I get up at 5am to play before I leave for work at 7. I mostly play Chili Peppers as it fun interesting and a challenge. My gear is listed in my signature My goal is to teach bass Is there any body else out there like me? Dont be shy
 5.
These basses are made of Luthite - some people like it, some don't. Luthite is a sort of 'fake wood' and critics reckon it can crack if dropped and paint chips off it easily. The necks on the EDC series are slightly different to the SR series necks (slightly wider IIRC). Have to say that, despite being an Ibby user, I probably wouldn't take a gamble on one of these unless I could try it out first...
Thanks for the advice bud. I'll give that one a miss then
 6. I've seen an Ibanez EDC710 for sale on the bay but I dont know much about them. How do people rate these basses? The price at the moment is £150 and it looks in excellent condition. Is this a fair price? I've already got an Ibanez SR500 which is realy nice to play so would it be worth getting this one also? So many questions and so little time lol
 7. well, Iget up between 5 - 5.30 every morning so I can get a bit done before I start work. I start off playing scales as my warm up then I'll do a spot of sight reading before moving on to playing my exam pieces and I finnish off by learning something challenging ( usually something by Flea )
 8. When I play suppose I have a medium to hard right hand technique but recently I've been thinking that if I use a gentler touch I'll be able to play with a lower action and therefore play faster and smoother. Am I right in my thinking or am I just talking nonsense again and need to practice more on my speed
 9.
Hubrad did the same with an Ibanez Roadster [LINK].
I LIKE it
 10. Since I've had my Shuker the ibanez hasn't left its case (poor thing) so I've been wondering what to do with it. Do I keep it, sell it or something else? I've been looking at headless basses recently and I really want one. Which got me thinking. Is it possible to turn the ibanez into a headless? If so where would I send it for the mods, how much would it cost and would it be worth it? Any ideas guys?
 11. First bass - Squire P Bass special Go To Bass - Shuker Jazz My Bass - Shuker Jazz My poor Ibanez hasn't left the case since the Shuker arrived
 12.
Have you told Jon about it? I'm sure he'd want it fixed as much as you.
I spoke to Jon earlier and he said he'd sort it out for free but the cost of posting it up to him from south Wales isn't worth it bud. I can get it done locally for £25 as opposed to £30+ each way for posting Thanks to everyone for the great response. Every time I log in I learn something new
 13.
Sounds like you need a sharper break angle over the nut-the slots could be a bit too low.
I've tried new strings and winding them as far down the tuning pegs as I can but no joy
 14.
I assume it's the Ibanez you're having trouble with? I have no specialised knowledge here but as the nut forms part of the vibration path and as the quality of the sound on a musical instrument come from the quality of the vibration I'd get the best nut I could. My Lakland uses bone and the Skylines use Delrin which I assume is a high grade plastic. According to the specs on his site John Shuker used either brass or Corian on your J bass. I'd guess we can trust Shuker to use top quality components and it must be easy to tell which one your bass has so I'd get the same for the other bass.
Surprisingly its my Shuker that's giving me the problem. When I play an open e or a I get a vibrating noise coming from the bass. The vibrating goes when I apply pressure behind the nut and play the same note. I've stopped the noise by placing some tin foil in the nut slots.
 15.
I does make a difference - obviously it's easiest to hear on an open string. I like tusq nuts.
Bone then
 16. I've been having vibration issues coming from my bass which seems to be due too the cut in the nut Anyway I've finally decided to get a new one fitted but which is the best type of nut to have? Bone, brass plastic etc Does it really make that much differance anyway?
 17. Absolutely stunning mate. I wish I was a better player so I could justify buying another bass Untill then I'll just have to deal with the GAS
 18.
Spend most of my free time in Aberdare mate! The rest of the band & my gf are from there, so apart from sleeping I'm not in Abercynon much at all
It's the capital of the valleys butt lol
 19.
Less than 40 quid delivered from the states. link
Thanks bud.
 20. Take a quick look at this bass www.littleguitarworks.com It looks looks amazing. When my numbers come in on saturday I'm ordering one
 21.
You can get them for £32 + £6 P&P off the bay.
Cool. Thanks bud
 22. I've seen one on fleabay for £50ish with postage but would it slip through the duty net?
 23.
come up for half that second hand. Also, is fairly important your bass has a stiff neck, as on stuff like Geddy sigs with whippy thin necks, they can throw the other strings out of tune.
Mr Shuker told me the neck is reinforced with carbon fibre so it should be ok
