2. The reason I was asking is purely to enhance my knowledge. Thanks for all your help guys.
  3. It happens when both sitting and standing but it only happens when I dig in on the open strings. I think its cos the nut slots are a little wide for the strings . I've got a new set of DR black beauties on the way. Hopefully they'll cure it
  4.
+1 Chris... i do like a passive bass, but the control of an active is great...depending on the bass you do tend lose a little character though... Got any pics of the Shuker then mr Evans?
I certainly have I'm not much of a photographer though
  5.
Ah right. In rather simplistic terms (I am a simplistic person after all!)... On a passive bass, all the tone control does is 'shove' some of the pup signal through an unpolarised capacitor. Signal going through that capacitor 'loses' it's treble. Therefore when you turn the tone control to 'full treble' you are getting the natural sound of the pup, and conversely - turning the tone control to 'full bass' shoves the output of the pup through a capacitor. Changing the pot to a different value would be like changing the way your car accelerator pedal works - it'll still tick over when you foot is off of it but it won't make it go any faster... if that makes any sense at all?
Makes sense to me bud. Thanks.
  6.
I guess the best question to ask at this point would be: what is it that you are trying to achieve?
Just trying to understand the workings of the bass. Not really thinking of changing anything apart from putting in a series parallel switch
  7.
Is that a fair comparison though? How many times more did the Shuker cost than the Ibanez? Isn't what you are really saying "My expensive handmade bass sounds better than my mid-range/cheap factory made one?".
Fair point
  8. AM i right in thinking that if I change my tone pot from 250 ohms to a lesser or greater ohms it will result in a change of sound from my bass?
  9.
I play both given the circumstances. I also have basses with both options.
That sounds like a good idea Wonder how much it would cost for the upgrade?
  10. I own 2 basses: Ibanez sr500 Shuker classic jazz I preffer the tone of the passive Shuker over the active Ibanez. What do you guys play?
  11.
That doesn't sound like a problem solved, sounds like you need to rewind them strings a little further down the machinehead, why not slap a photo on showing the nut and machine heads
I've got some pictures here to for you to look at. maybe someone can shed some light on the problem I phoned Mr Shuker and told him of my problem and in all fairness he said he would put a new nut on the bass if I sent it up to him. Due to the cost of posting it wouldn't be worth me sending it
  12.
In which position would you add the push-pull pot? The master tone, neck vol or bridge vol? Truckstop
Bridge volume I think
  13.
I've just picked up my main Fender Jazz today after having a set of Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickups and a series/parallel push/pull knob fitted. It sounds great. In parallel it's just like a Jazz Bass, whereas in series it seems to give it more balls. It increases the output slightly and gives a real fat tone that is almost Precision like but with more power and clarity (I think). Here's a wiring diagram for adding a push/pull knob. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wirin...ic=jass_bass_sp
Sounds good to me. I'm sold. Has anyone any advice on which control knob to get?
  14.
push - pull is the way to go. You don't want to drill extra holes specially considering the space available under the pickguard is limited to mini toggles which are a pain and would litter the look of a bass, the push pull is more of a stealth solution. Email Charlie Chandler at this link and ask him nicely for a diagram http://guitar-xperience.com/onlinestore/in...1&Itemid=30
Thankyou kindly Mr Wazoo. What difference would it make to the tone/sound?
  15. I've just found out that the pickups on my jazz can be run in series or parallel. All I need to do is add a switch into the circuit. I'm thinking a push pull volume control would be the vast option as it wouldn't spoil the look of the bass. I've never done any modifications before but I feel confident enough to give it a go. What I'm wondering is as I've never heard a bass with this mod before is would it be worth doing? And what change would it make to the sound of it? Over to you thanks in advance
  16. Problem solved. I put a tiny piece of paper in the nut slot under the A and E strings and all the vibration has gone. Happy days.
  17.
I don't think the problem is related to the brass nut, if it's a Jazz type of bass this is a common issue and it boils down to the fact that the string tree (I am assuming this, having not seing a pic) will only hold down D & G strings hence the for the A & E ones you will have to compensate this by winidng the string round the posts in a downward spiral so that you end up with a greater angle from the nut to the headstock, if you restring all your strings like that, it should fix it if not take it to a repairman to have a look at it. good luck
Thanks bud. I'll try it when I get home
  18. Hello again, I've just bought a shuker jazz (which I love dearly). I've noticed that when I play the E string and A string open I get a vibrating noise coming from the bass. I've never had a bass wiyh a brass nut before and I'm wondering if this could be causing the noise?? It only happens when the strings are played medium to hard. Could it be that the strings are too thin for the slots cut in the nut? I'm confused
  19. I bought a Shuker Jazz and it sounds awesome Buy one, you wont regret it
  20.
The STK J1's comes with 4 conductor wires meaning that you could have each of them wired in either seires or parallel, of course to do that you would need either mini toggle switches or a stealth solution would be to have push-pull volume knobs to switch between series and parallel. When you have both pickups in series the sound is VERY powerful and kickass!
Not realy sure what your talking about there bud I'd like to know more. Sounds interesting
  21.
I know (I can see... more like) that the pickups are Duncans, do you know exactly which models are they? Bass loks a good'n, supercongrats!
they are Duncan STK J1 pickups. Fantastic sounding pickups with a lovely slap to them
  22.
Is this a custom order or is this the one i saw at bass day??
It'll be the one you saw at bass day I got it for £850 with a case Awesome deal I thought I played it for 4.5 hours straight yesterday and it's an amazing instrument
  23.
Is it burgundy mist? I do like the Shuker Jazz shape, saw a baby blue one a while back that was lurvely! Congrats!
Its pheonix red candy with mint scratch plate Its daaam funky
  24.
Niiiice!
Thanks man. I dont think I'll ever be the player this bass deserves but I'm gonna have a lot of fun trying
