I'm not sure where you are based but personally I'd invest in some time and a train ticket to The Gallery (or other suitably equipped shop) and spend some time there getting an idea of what feels and sounds good to you. You have a good budget and it might surprise you with what you end up with:) As for me, and after a bit of experimenting, I'm more than happy with my Lakland DJ4. Not the most expensive Jazz I've ever owned but the right one for me. Cheers, FP

Hi Guys, As I'm not experienced with effects, I wondered if those with greater knowledge could help me out. For certain songs and gigs, I'm keen to emulate the 'valve' sound through either my Fender P (passive) or my Lakland DJ4 (active). At the same time, I need to get myself a DI. The EBS Microbass II looks like the one on paper, but just wondered if I should split the job up between an effect and a seperate DI, or both in one box? To give you an idea, the valve sound I'm trying to emulate is the 'Vox' amp sound. I hope I've explained myself properly and all comments welcome. Cheers, FP
