1.
Easy:- Keep the 'Ray Buy the SR Job done ;-)
You are a wise man sir... Mark
2. My thoughts exactly David, the difference between cost and worth enters into it. Mark
3. Thanks for posting, was beginning to think no-one cared! I'd agree that it would cost more to buy a stingray off here than it would to buy the above off here, but I disagree that it'd cost 250 pounds more. Cast a glance over the 5's for sale and you'll see even they're priced lower than what you suggest. If you're interested we can discuss but I would not be inclined to put 250 pounds towards the trade. Mark
4. GAS Alert: I've suddenly been hit by a desire for a simple Stingray 4 if anyone is interested in a swap! Mark
5. My accent often gets confused with a Canadian accent, it's an international school/Americanised accent but with gaelic elements in. Not at all Canadian IMO but I still perpetually get asked that, Irish too, even had Aussie once! Where abouts are you living? I'm currently in the Hicking building down by the station. Let me know if you're interested in a swap as I've suddenly been struck by GAS for a simple Ray. Mark
6. If you'd want the Ibanez 6'er I've got for sale then yes! Plus I'm in Nottingham, that makes it so worth it Where abouts are you from? Mark
7. And PM replied to Oh and David, if you still have that US Jazz do get in touch... Also, I did not even register that you also reside in Nottingham, tip of the hat to you sir! Mark
8. Not a problem David, you've got what sounds like and looks like a quality bass there, and at a price point like that it should NOT still be hovering around here. Is there no justice in the world!? Mark
9. PM replied to. Thanks for the bump Ped, no worries about the Marleaux, it's all good It is indeed a superb bass, such a shame I can't keep it. Mark EDIT: Sorry, is anyone else not seeing the number of view counts on this thread? It clearly should be above 0 and yet doesn't seem to be changing... tres bizarre!
10. SOLD SOLD SOLD Hey all, I'm afraid a sad moment has arrived, I feel that it is best for me to move on what seems to be forever known as bassjamm's Smith. This baby is an absolute beauty and I'm marginally worried I'm going to regret selling it on in some respects, but I know it's for the greater good. This is a Ken Smith bass, BSR B Custom, it is not a US custom made bass however it may as well be. It is beautifully constructed, incredibly solid and sounds great. Martin Petersen at the gallery was stunned as to how low the action was after setup. This is far and away the most wonderful bass to play I've ever played or owned. I demand a lot from my instruments in terms of playability feel and construction, this bass has delivered every step of the way. Unfortunately, I am not the man for this bass. The specs are: KS ... see above 5 string, currently tuned EADGC 34" scale Bolt on 5 piece laminate maple and walnut neck (maple with walnut stringers) Rosewood fingerboard w/ mother of pearl inlays Bookmatched solid flame maple body (I'd say AAA but I am not qualified to put such things) Ken Smith quick release bridge (16mm, I suggest you try narrower spacing if you're a real advocate of fingerstyle, there's nothing quite like it) 2 Ken Smith J45 humbucking jazz pickups Ken Smith defeatable 2 band eq Controls: Volume, Blend, Treble, Bass Custom made ebony finger ramp at the gallery Setup and cleaned in the summer at the gallery It comes with the Smith hard case you see in the photos and a Smith strap that has a sheepskin pad, which i think is a nice touch, straplocks on that too. Reasons for selling? I know this is one of the first instruments I've decided to move on but I feel inclined to inform any potential buyers as to why I'm not keeping it. It has what me and bassjamm both agreed on as a unique Smith tone, but also akin to Fodera, try it and you'll see. In my opinion, it gets that Garrison tone without any tweaking. For those very reasons I can't keep it. It is a definite keeper but definitely for someone else. I've realised that I'm a jazz bass man at heart. For those of you who are interested in a sale, I'm after what I've invested in it, which (rounded down) comes to 800 pounds (+ shipping although collection is preferable). [s]For those of you who are interested in a trade, hit me with your offers, I'm open to pretty much anything (within reason), you never know what may tickle my fancy. I will reply to any and all messages so don't fret about not getting a reply. [/s] No longer open to trades, thanks for all the offers, but I'm looking for a straight sale, I've realised I've got all the bass(es) I need Here are pics below, I'm based in Nottingham, please don't hesitate to message with any questions or offers or anything. Mark Pics below (and once more I apologise for the graininess for the full size pics, maybe I should add that as my signature...) 11. [s]Hey guys, Didn't see you say no to bassjamm's Smith, which is now my Smith, as such are you interested in said trade? It's been given the works and by the blokes at the gallery along with an ebony finger ramp. I can take pics if you like. Despite it being phenomenal to play I'm finding more and more the tone just isn't what I'm after. No worries if you're not interested though, I just thought I'd throw it out there. Mark[/s] EDIT: Original post *deleted*, really not sure what I'm looking for, I will move it on, but when and for what remains to be seen. Good luck with the sale!
12. Hey guys, Elom, both of the bridges are from Allparts, it is absolutely identical to the Fender bent plate bridge you find on almost all their basses except for the saddles which are threaded, allowing you to configure your bass to a variety of different string spacings. Chris, I've taken a picture of the layout and I've attached it to this post. The measurements from the centre of each hole to the centre of the next is 17.5mm/18mm. I've had both of these fitted to a Fender Geddy Lee at one time and they both fit perfectly. Any other dimensions you'd like? Thanks for the questions! Mark I hope this angle is acceptable, I was attempting to keep my ugly mug from reflecting in the base plate EDIT: Oh man is that blurry up close, my most sincere apologies, zoom out I say! 13. Cheeky bump... Mark
14. Strapp is sold, winging its way to a lucky buyer as we speak! Mark
15. Hello there, Realised I stupidly put this in tandem with effects in the other for sale section. Standard Fender replacement bentplate bridge with threaded saddles - 10 quid Schaller BB 3530-010 (highly adjustable bridge, 15mm-21mm [or so]) - 60 quid (it wasn't cheap I can assure you!) [s]Comfort strapp - 20 quid[/s] SOLD, sorry people! All of these are in mint condition + postage (sorry for the late addition), both the bridges are drop in 5 bolt Fender replacements, the bridges also come with the correct screws and the latter bridge came and will come with corresponding allen keys. The strap only has a couple of creases around the tags where I doubled up the strap holes. Again, please message if interested or you have any questions at all. Mark Pics of bridges below (sorry for the graininess of the full size pictures)
16. Hey there, Couple more things to add to the for sale list, if you haven't gathered already I'm having a clearout! Boss MT-2 Metalzone - 40 quid Dunlop Volume Pedal - 50 quid Both prices + postage. Both in mint condition too, barely used. Open to trades so feel free to message or post with offers or questions. Mark Pics below (again, sorry for the graininess of the full size pics): P.S. In case you're wondering why I don't use the pound sign, I, along with my computer, originate from overseas and use an american keyboard layout, hence no pound sign.
17. Cheers David, good of you to chime in plus it's a free bump! If I'm honest, those two issues are about the only thing keeping me from selling it! I appreciate that it may come across as lazy, that really isn't it at all. Even if it was repaired I'd still put it up for the same price as I'm only looking to put a nominal amount of cash in the bankie for savings purposes, not intending to make a profit here. Anyway, if anyone is interested and doesn't mind getting some work done on it, drop me a line! Mark
18. Officially sold I'm afraid, will be shipping off sharpish. Mark [s]Hey all, Title says the score, I have one of these babies and I'm looking to move it on. Firstly my opinion; I love this bass cos it does have the complete extra upper and lower range that I love to venture into. It has a thick, rich, well defined sound as you would expect from such great wood combinations. It is extremely well constructed, only ever had to adjust the truss rod once and that was to set it up the way I like it. It is of medium output and quite a modern tone, it is not super snarly but not too dark either. EQ is fair but I tend to run things flat and eq offboard almost always. Here are the specs: Ibanez SR2006E 6 string 34" scale Bolt on Wenge neck and fretboard w/ bubinga stringers/laminates Abalone inlays 24 frets Contoured Mahogany body Custom Bartolini soapbars Active onboard EQ - Volume | Blend | Stacked bass and treble | Stacked mid and mid sweep Individual monorail bridge pieces and Gotoh GB7 tuners in almost smoky chrome I don't think I've missed anything there? Now, to be as up front as possible I want to inform you of its state: - Physically the only blemish I know of is a minute hairline indent about a centimetre long on the back (dodgy bass stand) but you genuinely cannot see it unless I point it out in person with bright lights and at juuuust the right angle. - Doesn't particularly need a setup, at least not in my opinion, and I am very particular I am about my basses. - There is a DIY finger ramp if you desire, it's in with the deal regardless, you could chuck it or leave it here if you didn't want it. - Stupidly stupidly left the truss rod cover saying 'prestige' on it back home, and as that is 6000 miles or so east of my present location, I ain't getting it anytime soon! - The electronics WILL need looking at, one of the knobs got knocked and fractionally bent in transit thus impeding it's turning. I reckon it'll cost anywhere from 10 to 20 quid for basic work but it depends what you want, you could upgrade to a better eq if you so chose. - The battery hasn't need replacing to this day and it's been fine. HOWEVER, when I have tried to put in a standard one (other than the one it came with) into the battery pack it's been a tight fit, so you may need to ask a technician's opinion as to how to sort that (give you something to chat about whilst the electronics are getting looked at ) My price? Thought about this for a while, I am willing to move this on for 400 quid + postage. There is a mint condition SKB hardcase I'm willing to throw it in for a extra few bob but it'd take a good offer to get me to part with it as I'm quite fond of this case, it pleases me. I'm trying to find a fair price for it at present, will edit when I've settled on one. I'm based in Nottingham and do not drive so it's either postage or collection (collection is always preferable but especially so if you don't want the hardcase). Please PM me if you're interested, would like to come try it out, or have any questions at all. Enjoy your weekends people! Mark Pics below (apologies for graininess in full size, yet another camera phone): P.S. Woo! I'm thrilled I managed to get the image attachment to work![/s]
19. Plus, they look great. Easy to wipe down if you're a real drooler. Mark
20. That's a good idea OG, I'm based in Nottingham, do you know of anyone with a Schroeder in the general vicinity of said crime capital? God, and Royal Mail, willing I should be receiving my amp Monday, so popping to try out may be possible shortly. Machinehead, SHX did inform me of such a consignment and I'm quite interested in that, I much prefer a matte surface over a furry covering. Mark
21. PM'd Mark
22. Well, please let me know if you do end up deciding you want to move it on. I'd be happy to step in and take it off your hands That's a valid point I may need to consider as the amp I've ended up going with, at least for now, is designed to be as transparent as possible. Guess we'll just have to see! Mark
23. Been meaning to post a reply here for a bit, just to throw in my bit. 'The electric bass' is an instrument, 'bass' is a function that anything that can access the bass register can provide e.g. piano, euphonium, etc. The range of the 'bass' function is somewhat up for debate but for the sake of argument say it typically ranges from as low as a low B to perhaps open G/5th fret D string(?) The necessity inherent in fulfilling the 'bass' function is that you need to have access to and use that range of notes. Following on from that, 'the electric bass' need not and should not necessarily be limited to a function, however it would be appreciated that once you leave that register, you are no longer fulfilling the 'bass' function. The ERB is very much like a piano in that it can access all/most registers, hence it's great for arranging, fulfilling different functions etc. BUT unlike the piano it is very difficult to hold down two very different functions at once (outside of tapping at least), making extra strings seem superfluous at various points, hence when you play low comments of 'why do you need all the higher strings' and when you play high 'why don't you just get a guitar'. In short? My humble opinion is that the ERB is a different instrument, and as such should be treated as one, that it's not something to 'get' or 'not get', that such a question is akin to saxophone player asking a violinist to justify what they play. They may share similar construction and appearance but they are not the same. Note: Not attacking the OP, I think it's a completely valid question, and this is my valid opinion. Now... to bed! Mark EDIT: By the way Dood, your bass rocks!
