Looking for recommendations £500-£1k .thanks .

There is a make called Knops ,they allow you to control the ambient volume ...I don't gig for a living & I just don't enjoy the sound when wearing my ACS plugs So I'm going too stop .I might treat myself to a nice acoustic for home ,any suggestions?

Has anyone else stopped gigging due to this .. I've got it mildly , wearing ACS earplugs isn't doing it for me it's cutting out all the ambient sounds & the Dr says wear them or stop gigging :(.

I went for a test & it's fine apart from the fact I've had mild tinnitus for the past 3 weeks since my drummer wacked a drum right in my ear when setting up .

On the last gig I used Pro 17 They cut 15 db across all the frequency range , I had been using Pro 10s they cut only about 5db on the lower range & 15db on the higher .The guy that fitted them at spec Savers said that He played in bands & preferred these .

I've done a bout 20 gigs with the Pro 10 & 17s for me the difference is that all the overtones harmonics (zing) punch is lost ,When I play at very low volume I don't loose all these tones . Also on the drums I can hardly hear the cymbals . As it clearly is a case of protecting my hearing I think I'll just stop gigging as I can't see the point of spending a considerable amount on amps & not being able to enjoy the sound they produce .I'll give them another 6 months .

Does anyone use these ? I've recently started using them & yes I can hear everything on the same level But I just can't get into the atmosphere of what a gig should be, something is missing ?

I'm on my 2nd gig with them I agree .

what about wearing a glove ?

Apart from coated strings , what makes some strings last longer than others , sweat & dead skin must effect a any set of round wounds in the same way surely ? & would wearing a glove like Scott what his name help ?

My first bass was a new 77 precision & I swapped it for a pair of Kudos pa speakers in 83 .. Why ?

I've just gigged a set & found them just as good as more expensive makes .

I had this set up , But when I changed the Head to a Ahsdown ABM1000 or ABM 400 (both digital heads) it just seemed to moved a lot more air a lot bigger sound , I never had to test the volume in similar size venues .

Get your own PA ? I use 2 x EV active subs as part of mine for large venues & everything can go through it , You don't want to be droning out the drums , I know JJB (stranglers ) for rehearsals uses 2 x ABM combos connected with a different eq on each .

I started with a pick & then played with fingers & occasional slap for about 10 years , I went back to the pick as I find it easier to keep consistency in note tone , playing finger style each finger would give a slightly different tone .

They fit a 36 " scale but only just for anyone needing to know , It will be interesting to see how they last at £8.99 . & why do some none coated strings last longer than others & why & would wearing a glove like Scott thingy does make them last longer with no mucky muck getting in the string especially if using a plectrum ?
