1.
I see, so why doesn't the key signature change 2 bars earlier instead of having the accidentals leading up to it?
It's just common practice. It's better to have the new key signature coincide with the double barline/new musical section; it adds visual clarity to the form.
 2.
Thanks for your posts they've been very helpful! I'm curious as to why it's a chord of D# in bar 8 of the second page? I get that it is setting up the modulation that will follow, but why wouldn't it be an Eb?
It's not setting up the modulation, it is the modulation. The D# has a clear dominant function leading to the G#m, an Eb here would obscure that.
 3.
Is it just common practice to change key as soon as you get to a chord that is not diatonic?
No, non-diatonic chords are used all the time (Neopolitan, Augmented Sixth etc.). If you respell the Fb and Cb as E and B, you should see a clear progression in Eminor. Here's my brief analysis: The main theme consists of 2 phrases, each phrase is made up of 8 bars. The first (Question) phrase is in E minor, ending with a modulation into Cmin for the next (Answer) phrase. After a short 4 bar interlude, the whole sequence repeats, transposed up a minor 6th/ down a major 3rd.
 4.
G in the Abm section that was confusing me, so I decided to put it in Abm.
The G chord is part of a modulation and is derived from E minor. On your transcription, you should be changing to E minor at bar 59.
 5.
Ah! Yeah didn't realise I'd put that as Bm. D'oh! Is there any general consensus as to whether it's Abm or G#m? Does it make a difference?
They're just enharmonic equivalents, no right or wrong but most people find it easier to read 5 sharps than 7 flats.
 6.
So it looks to me like it's pretty much the exact same progression, it just changes key so if you learn the fingering, you should be fine, just move it up and down the neck! Bear in mind I'm not too sure of the theory behind this myself, and while I think the chords are right, I'm not sure I've put it in the right key. To me it looks like it goes from Em to Cm then to Abm. Can anyone confirm whether it should be Abm or G#m? It was the chord of G in the Abm section that was confusing me, so I decided to put it in Abm.
Yep, begins in Em, modulates to Cm, Abm(G#m) and finally back to Em. I spotted a Bm at bar 15 which should be major. I would analyse it like this: ~Joe
 7. I totally agree, Jeff's a great sideman. The Bruford stuff with Jeff and Allan is amazing and 'Road Games' is my Favourite Holdsworth album. The fact that 'Champion' is out of print/almost impossible to find, says a lot.
 8. Hello! I've just posted a new transcription/playalong - Jeff Berlin 20,000 Prayers Absolutely monstrous solo from Jeff! ~Joe
 9. Thanks, you're very kind! I've just finished a transcription of Teen Town, hardly rare or hard to find but it's one of my faves! http://joebrittonbass.com/blog/teen-town Joe
 10.
Maybe this?
That's very close! The last note should be an A# and the whole run is an octave lower. Most likely the bassist down-tuned in the studio for that 1 bar, like this: Other possibility is a 7 string:
 11. Thanks. I've never found the piezo to be very useful so disconnecting it should be fine. I'm leaning towards changing the preamp; having the option of running in passive mode with a tone control is a very attractive.
 12. Thanks very much! Yamaha tech support seems the way to go then, although I might change the preamp for a Glockenklang instead. Joe
 13. Hi, Does anyone know where I can get replacement pots for a Yamaha TRB6PII? Here's a link to the owners manual http://www.manualslib.com/manual/908931/Yamaha-Trb-6pii.html#manual Any help would be much appreciated! Joe
 14. Hi, I've just published a Matthew Garrison solo transcription on my website. You can check it out here: http://joebrittonbass.com/blog/ Joe

 17.
Excellent Joe. Ferocious really!
Cheers, Chard!
Lovely playing, and always great to have more Hadrien stuff on here! As an aside, have you seen his instructional video on My Music Masterclass?
Thanks! I've got that video - It's good, but nothing in there that you can't learn from transcribing some of his solo's. It's his accuracy that blows me away. I've seen a lot of his solo's at NAMM on YouTube - flawless playing, every time.
