  2. It always makes me super gutted to see it still out there. I used to work the guy who owns it and have been offered it so many times since he decided to sell it about 4 years ago but I've just never had the money to pull the trigger on it 😢💸
  3. It's a misconception because the BB604/5 is based on the NE2 shape and as far as I'm aware the BB2004/5 did share pre-amp qualities with the BBNE2. The BB604/5 preamp is a different (much cheaper) preamp than those found in the higher end variations understandably. It wouldn't make much sense for Yamaha to put such a saught after preamp in what was the budget BB of the time.
  4. https://youtu.be/valxsh2KTGI A band I used to play with invited me back to rerecord some old material. I figured as this is one of the more bass prominent songs and was recorded on my faithful BB it made sense to share it here 👍
  5. This is the BB5000a I was supposed to be buying but annoyingly every time I get into a position where disposable income is available something crops up which just steals it away for months at a time...
  6. I had one for about 2 years. It was a perfectly fine bass, could benefit with new electronics and tbh I wasn't a huge fan of the neck. The switch activates a sweepable mid-scoop control. I didn't have much use for this, although it was useful for giving a pseudo-volume jump for tapping or slapping parts if you don't have a compressor. I did like the redbust/gold combination
  7. Upgrade the preamp and you'll have a smashing bass
  8. https://youtu.be/TcLps_Ja51w A pretty good and indepth comparison of the bb735a and the bb414 from Lowend Lobster
  9. I have the TRBX605 in natural satin. Build wise and playability wise it's excellent, typical value for money Yamaha quality I also prefer satin finishes to gloss ones like on the TRB1005j because finger prints annoy me. I can't really compare. I played a TRB1005j in a shop years ago and remember it not be bad, I think the body was a little thicker (front to back) than the TRBX605 where as I've played the TRBX605 as my main bass since 2018. If I could change anything about the TRBX it would be the pickups, they're again not bad but just not as powerful as my BB615. I'm wanted to change these to Nordstrand blade pickups once gigs come back and I some disposable cash.
  10. A bit of a rude response, it was simply a suggestion of a UK builder that offers modern jazz style designd
  11. What about Zoot stuff? https://www.facebook.com/zootbass/
  12. I think the BB with having a body as big as it does would look really nice with a nice figured top wood
  13. All of these are a significant upgrade on the current colour offerings. Loving the shell pink, Aubourgine and the forest green(?)
  14. Where did you find that pricing? I've tried looking online for the new ones and can't find any in the UK. The new bongo 6's in america are approx $2899
  15. Could you not swap the electronics from the 1800e?
  16. I'll be trying this on the TRBX605 Al, sadly I don't have a 734a (yet...)
  17. I haven't heard this but I'll definitely have to try it! I usually run my trbx in passive unless I specifically need to change the EQ for a song
  18. Yes and no, I can't speak for the 735a but the TRBX5/6 series have the same preamp but tweaked centre point frequencies for the controls compensate for the TRBX5 being made of mahogany and the TRBX6 being made of alder/maple
  19. No, problem! Al Krow is probably best placed to answer that question. The biggest difference will be the electronics and the fact the 735a can be active or passive where as the 1025x is purely passive. The version the G5 with the soapboars is active while passive versions have the jazz pickups
  20. For reference I've attached the 3 main iterations of the 'BB' shape. When looking for stock photos it did in fact bring up the BBG5 (smaller version of the traditional BB) with Jazz style pickups so that is also an option if looking used. BB2025 BB2005 BBG4/5 Obviously there will be slight differences across similar models (BB3000 and BB2025 while having the same body template do vary from each other), but I think this is useful to highlight the extent of variation that has happened over the years.
  21. You have the BBNE2 which is crazy expensive. Occasionally used you will find the BB2005 which is the model in between the BB605 and the BBNE2 in terms of price and quality. I don't think they've done a traditionally styled BB 5 string with jazz style pickups, I could be wrong though. I always think these models look more like reshaped TRB's than BB's. They did at one point offer a shape which looks more like a smaller bodied version of the traditional BB (like the BBNE and G5) but they all had soap bars as far as I'm aware
  22. Sold already! Gutted, I've always wanted that exact bass but alas it wasn't meant to be
  23. I used to have the BB605, while the body was nice the neck didn't feel too great compared to other BB's I've played
  24. They did this about 15-20 years ago with the BB604/404 and the BB2004 series basses
