  1. Giving this a little bump, with a price update
  2. Cheers - responded and agree with your conclusion! For some reason, can't amend the price in the topic - but for info: £1800 looks to be market value
  3. Yup - I found exactly the same a few mins ago myself! I find it odd the shop wouldn't have verified it themselves. I've pinged them an email asking if any recollection how they dated it, or if they did (I doubt they'll remember, to be fair - but worth a try).
  4. Honestly, whilst its a bit frustrating to find out I was mis-sold in the first place (wonder if I have any recourse 5 years on?), I massively appreciate the fact that there are members here knowledgeable enough to figure things like that out. Uncertain as to whether I re-price at this stage, given I paid £2k five years ago, but open to any sensible offers. Remains a fantastic playing and sounding bass.
  5. I agree - had amended the title of the thread prior to even popping the neck off, as I don't want to mis-sell anything - also had a look around whilst googling the serial and came to same conclusion: not reliable enough to date. I'm going to contact the retailer - unlikely, but they may have a bit more info on how they dated it, even if incorrectly. Nevertheless, what we do appear have here is a great (apparently) Corona '62 RI, and seems, assembled by a top builder. And still for sale Thx for the researching - better to know than not!
  6. Curiosity got the better of me 😄 - no clearer to me from popping the neck off, anyone with deeper knowledge able to demystify this one? One cool bonus: "S Buehl" is/was a Master Builder. Searching the serial online reveals everything from 1980, to custom shop, to 82 or 88 onwards.
  7. Fair enough - I appreciate the research guys - as I said, going on what the shop told me at sale (I might have a word with them!!) I’ll take a look at the neck stamp when I have a chance - cheers
  8. I’m going on what the retailer verified upon selling to me from their Denmark Street shop - possible a mixture of parts across years perhaps. I can pop the neck off and take a look, but would only do so if someone is seriously interested. Cheers!
  9. It doesn't come across brilliantly in my poorly taken photos, but the CAR has aged really nicely. It's darker on the cutaway, almost makes it look 'bursty'. I'll try to take a better shot to capture that.
  10. Hi all, I have here a bass that I've come on and off the fence a few times about selling - but I've come to the reluctant conclusion that I just have too many P-Basses (sacrilege, I know!). Details: - Year: Unclear, likely 1987 (see thread below!) - assembled by Scott Buehl, later a Master Builder in the Custom Shop - Manufacturer: Fender (USA) - Model: 1962 Re-Issue Precision Bass - Other: All original save pickguard, nut and strap-pins - Shipping: within UK only. Local pickup, or meetup within 40 mins of Guildford, UK Plays and sounds fantastic. Finish is fairly worn. A little bit of choke-off on the A string past 16th fret, which is primarily down to how I have it set up (quite low action) - lots of life left in the frets, but could use a leveling in time. Comes with an aftermarket hardshell case, which is in ok condition (does have a crack), but still very robust. I'm open to trades and part-trades, but ultimately, looking to sell to fund buying a Musicman Sabre. Any questions at all, by all means please feel free to DM I'll soon be listing a CIJ Fender Geddy Lee and (possibly) a Musicman Stingray 3EQ also - happy to talk about those in context of any wider deal ref. trades as well. Cheers, Nick
  11. Oh wow! Hi Oliver! I remember you! Funnily enough I was describing that bass to someone the other day and lamenting that I had no pics of it 🤣 So pleased to see you’re still rocking it - do I spy new pickups?? cheers Nick
  12. I bought a 5 string fretted version of this right here - and honestly… phenomenal for the money. Plays/sounds/feels great. I prefer it to my Stingray 5 (I’m genuinely not smoking anything…)
  13. If you’re willing to find a way to ship it, I think that’s a very fair price!
  14. @warwickhunt - I think this is the right thread! Ha Just adding my 2 cents: recently purchased Fodera copy 5 string from John - he was really accommodating, helpful and friendly. Easy and smooth transaction, item very conscientiously packed (even threw in a gig bag for good measure!) and ultimately, an excellent bass for the price. A pleasure - cheers John

    Greetings!

Hi BC! I’ve lurked for a long time, occasionally surfacing to buy or sell gear here - but thought I may as well participate!! I’ve been playing for 20 years, starting when I was 14. By day, I work in aviation, by night I annoy my fiancée with the twanging sound of unamplified rounds and flats (headphones a true necessity in London!) Over the years I’ve had a tonne of different basses, I think around 25 - Fender, Musicman, Warwick, Lakland, Ibanez, Gibson… but have somehow found myself right now with an all-Fender collection (save an Ibanez fretless) of 7 basses: - P-Bass: 1966, 1983, 2000 MIM - Jazz: 1969, 1972, ‘62 AVRI, Geddy Lee CIJ - Other: Ibanez GSR (defretted) Some 6 string guitars hanging around too, but the less said about that the better Amp-wise, unfortunately 90% AmpliTube through a Focuswrite and SansAmp. Does ok, but no comparison to the feel of a physical amp! I have an Ampeg Micro VR for small jams. I post the odd video or bit of gear on Instagram, purely for my own gratification: https://instagram.com/doingsomebass?utm_medium=copy_link That’s about it, cheers! Good to meet you all.
  16. ‘Guitar corner’ - albeit much reduced for space reasons right now, so about half the collection is sat in cases, under beds. We’ll hopefully move soon and then I can get cracking on a full-on, proper man cave. The music rooms on here are brilliant - true envy!!

    Jazz

A few jazzes here! - 1972 (sunburst & tort - pickup covers now removed!) - 1969 (natural & tort - replacement fretboard, bought right here on BC) - AVRI ‘62 reissue (Lake placid blue W/ matching headstock - refinish) - Geddy Lee (CIJ model w/ mirror pickguard) I’ve had a couple of others over the years, including a 2012 USA Jazz and a Lakland Skyline J-Sonic.
  18. A couple of P’s to show off - 1966 (sunburst & tort) - 1983 Fullerton ‘62 RI (red & tort) - 1977 (natural) - 2000 MIM (sunburst & black) Technically I’m cheating on the 1977, as it’s now ‘left the building’. The ‘66 is everything you’d expect, but perhaps surprisingly, the Mexican is my longest serving bass and honestly, despite having owned about 25 basses over the years, remains the ‘all time’ favourite. It had SD quarter pounders and a Schaller bridge. Just something very playable and ‘easy’ about it.
  19. Thanks for the bump! And here's adding one of my own. ;-)
  20. Hi - they're Gibson pickups alright, but what I said was that they simply don't sound quite like regular T-bird pickups. As its a seemingly custom job, I'd be inclined to believe that was part of the customer's specs, rather than an aftermarket addition. Thanks for the interest!
  21. Hi all, I have a Custom Gibson Thunderbird IV that I'm looking to preferably sell outright, but will also consider trades. £975 ono. It's quite a unique beast - all black finish, pearloid binding on the body and headstock, custom inlays, the pickguard looks after-market to me - but not sure. The pickups aren't standard Thunderbird territory either, I find the tone to be much closer to a beefed-up jazz bass, or a Ripper - although still with that distinctive Thunderbird flavour. I'll try to get some samples posted up. I don't know a great deal about it - whether it came from the Gibson Custom Shop, or has simply been tricked out by a previous owner. It was sold to me by Wunjo Guitars in London's Denmark Street as Custom Shop instument though. There is some minor cosmetic wear and tear. A few dings (shown in pictures), the volume pot is chipped and there's some beltrash on the back. The case isn't in great shape - the previous owner has clearly put it through its paces. I've only had it since the beginning of this year, but I believe the build year is early 2000's. For anyone who knows a bit more about Thunderbirds than me, it's production number is: 92436732 (as best I can read!) All-in-all a very cool, bass. The only reason I'm parting with it is that it just doesn't really fit with what my band is doing and it seems a shame to keep it locked away in it's case! Happy to answer any queries both in-thread or via Private Message. I'm afraid I can't ship this item due to the weight of the case, but am willing to meet in and around West London, providing there's a tube stop handy!
