  1. Just had a couple of PMs regarding trades. I'm not interested at this stage. I would possibly consider a Mexican Fender P or J (or similar mid-price quality bass) and about 500 quid in cash but I'm mostly looking for cash to afford a double bass I've been offered. Thanks
  2. For sale my 2007 Limited Edition Musicman Stingray in the famous Blue Dawn finish with maple fingerboard. This is the HS model with the familiar MM humbucker in the bridge position plus a single coil in the neck position, making it a lot more tonally versatile than the average 'Ray. It comes complete with gorgeous matching blue taco shell case and I've been the only owner since I bought it in 2009 (it was with the distributor until coming into the shop where I bought it) but it has been played out on many gigs though mostly well looked after apart from a few scratches to the sides, a little dent near the jack plug and unfortunately a chip in the painted headstock (I was kicking myself when I did that) It's set up with a great low action, practically plays itself! This is a very beautiful tonally versatile instrument but unfortunately I mostly play the double bass these days and need to finance an upgrade of my main axe. I'm based in Cardiff and would prefer collection but I will consider meeting someone halfway by car if they cover my costs. I'm looking for £800 [attachment=79453:P1010001.JPG] [attachment=79455:P1010003.JPG] [attachment=79454:P1010002.JPG] [attachment=79456:P1010004.JPG] Sorry about the poor pics I am not much of a photographer!
  3. Oh so beautiful. I doubt my Stingray 4 is what you're looking for unfortunately... Have a bump
  4. Noone seems to have made the obvious suggestion: go to a teacher who specialises in jazz and get them to recommend a good starting point. I don't think trying to play bebop is the best starting point as far as walking lines go. When I finally met the right teacher (after two years self-taught jazz bass) he basically took me back to the start and got me playing very simple walking lines over blues progressions and other simple forms, of course I wanted to play very complex material straight away but having those basic principles down pat is the key to expanding beyond them imo. Recommended listening: Walter Page with Count Basie, Paul Chambers and Ron Carter with Miles Davis, Ray Brown with Oscar Peterson of course, as much jazz as you can get hold of. There's so much you can learn from everything that's ever been recorded, but start with something simple!
  5. I've been using Evah Pirazzis (regs) for about 18 months. I haven't tried the weichs yet but they are supposed to be a bit easier on the hands which would be good for playing jazz. The regular Evah's are great with the bow and pizz on my bass though I will admit they are a little hard work. I replaced the G more recently with an Oliv which is a good solution to scratchy top string (besides working on my technique!) as well as a great way of mellowing out the tone of the whole bass. The Oliv blends wonderfully with the Evahs, the sound is very round and warm but still articulate and very responsive to right hand skips and the like. I will probably try Evah Weichs next time but the regulars come highly recommended. It really depends on your bass I would hasten to add, obviously its difficult to try them all out without some considerable expense but if you want more tension then the Evahs will perhaps suit you (not that they are incredibly high tension, that's something of a misconception, though they are rather thick strings)
  6. I teach in West Cornwall (I live in Helston can travel as far East as Truro or at a stretch Newquay) What sort of level are you? I'm more of an improvising bassist/double bass player than a slap and pop guy but it depends what sort of things you're looking to learn. PM if you're interested.
