Kiss/O2 over egging the pudding somewhat!
hiram.k.hackenbacker replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
How long do they play for?
I'm not sure it's that shabby time-wise because it's padded out with all sorts of guff that I don't really have much time for i.e. drum solo/bass solo/guitar solo's. The last time I saw them they played 20 songs. Here is the CD.... I remember when I ordered it that they played pretty much exactly the same set night after night, so I didn't bother ordering any of the others. -
I think their best, basically all of the 70's, is long since behind them, apart from the few glimpses of return to form; but I'll will always be a Kiss fan. I won't be going to the show, but I was e-mailed this from a ticketing agency today.... "The band have released 44 albums"? Really? That's a stretch isn't it? Even taking into account the solo and live albums I can't get to 40! I wouldn't mind, but they ignore a huge slice of their catalogue these days, just playing it safe with the obvious and short sets they normally do. I know Simmons & Stanley are getting on a bit, but I just wish they would mix it up more.

Received a bass from Barrie today. I couldn't be happier. Top notch service from a real nice bloke who clearly knows his stuff. Thoroughly and unreservedly recommended.

Yes, the gigs are the same. It just gets everyone dancing doesn't it. That's the old set from 2014 by the way. I think the latest set I've shown is better as it has Nite Klub and a few others I've always wanted to do. -

Little Book of Ska - now plus gig vid!

Well, it's been a while, but I've been offered and accepted some Ska dep gigs this year. I just love playing this stuff, so it was a complete no brainer. As you can see from the set I've just been given, it has evolved somewhat, so a degree of homework will be required. -

Any Rush fans with the Sector Boxed Sets?
hiram.k.hackenbacker replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
A close up of the original DVD disc is on this page: Rush: Rush Sector 2 - Album Artwork http://www.cygnus-x1...db-sector-2.php
Unfortunately the disc code is on the other side. Thanks anyway. -
Rush released the Sector boxed sets a few years back encompassing all their albums up to and including A Show of Hands. There were two faults found on discs in the sets for which replacements were sent out to those who purchased them. The discs that were replaced were the Fly By Night CD and the A Farewell To Kings DVD. The fault on Fly By Night is easily heard; it's in the first few moments of Beneath, Between & Behind where the left channel drops out momentarily. The other fault is supposedly on the stereo track of the DVD of A Farewell To Kings. It's said that the stereo channel only has the front two channels of the 5.1 mix. I know it's only a minor thing, but I've managed to mix the replacement DVD with the original. I've listened to both at length and I'm stuffed if I can tell what the difference is. I've noticed that the etched codes on the DVD's are different between the original and replacement. Does anyone have AF2K in the Sector boxed set and replaced their DVD of AF2K? Is there a way of telling which is which for sure? Would you be able to tell me what the code on the replacement disc is please? I'm aware it's insignificant in the overall scheme of things and if I can't hear it, it probably doesn't matter. Just though I'd ask

A return visit to our favourite underground club. We have to be careful where we put our guitarist here as the ceiling is too low for him. Venue website here. Here's another live track from Chinnery's, Southend in November 2016. FAME -
Like this, you mean? (Not mine, I should add - these are from a friend who was at NAMM.)
Yes, that's the one. It's a stunner IMHO. Action looks a little on the high side though. Having said that, I've just found this at Bass Central which looks very sexy.... http://store.basscentral.info/ernie-ball-musicman-sting-ray-5-string-bass-limited-single-h-starry-night
See, I'd be getting a bit, erm, twisty tbh. Not being nosy, but given current MM prices I would guess this particular bass is at least north of £2k. I am also sure that MM would have been aware of the updated CITES regs long before they came into force . If so, doesn't really reflect well on their planning or customer care. No particular axe to grind, but being in service industries all my life, this kind of performance bugs me.
I'm not that bothered to be fair, it's just the reasoning behind it that confused me a little. I would much rather I had to wait a bit longer and for it to be 100% straight. Of course there are no guarantees that this will be the case, but fingers crossed. The dealership has been very good thus far and they are only relaying what they have been told by the manufacturer and/or their UK representatives, so I can't blame them. By the way, if anyone is looking at buying one of these: ....you better have in the region of £2,800 in your sky rocket. (and if you do, it might be an idea to order the maple neck variant)
I'd imagine it is more that the ruling has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works at MusicMan. Lots more paperwork to clear all the rosewood boards on other basses that are possibly ahead of yours on the production schedule.
I've been given to understand that ZERO PDN Starry Night instruments have been shipped into the UK directly from EBMM. Should make the next wave of instruments interesting as their order window opens in the first week of March!
-
OK - Understood and thank you for that. It's just there has been a delay with the above bass and the reason given was the CITES Regs in respect of Rosewood of which there doesn't appear to be any on this bass. The fingerboard is Ebony. The only other wood type that isn't specifically mentioned is that of the body, for which it says "select hardwood", which I can't imagine would be Rosewood.
-
I appreciate that this could potentially open a rather large can of worms, but I have a genuine reason for asking. I've looked at the new CITES Regs and unless I'm misinterpreting them (as I don't have a Biology degree) I don't see anything new in respect of Ebony. So, if I had a bass on order that had the spec below, should it be unnecessarily delayed due to the new regs, or would have it always have been delayed because of the existing regs or have the new regs had an effect on all CITES related wood for export?
