So which is it for you Warren?

I bet your purple Modulus it's BSSM 😁

So, I've listened to them all a couple of times since posting this.

@Chiliwailer - you were quite right, Blood Sugar Sex Magik all the way for me. I was going to re-iterate what I said on the FB post which was 'by a country mile', but I'd like to amend that. Badmotorfinger is actually a cracking album, but like you, I don't really care much for the production. Perhaps a better way to put it would be that it doesn't hold up very well against Rick Rubin's effort.

I have nothing against Nevermind, there are some great tunes on it, but it doesn't feel (to me) like one cohesive unit the way BSSM does. I was once again reminded why I don't listen past Track #11 due to the drone of Something In The Way followed by that ridiculous ten minute silence and then the cacophony of Endless/Nameless.

I very much enjoyed listening to Badmotorfinger again and if the production was just that little bit better, it would be right on the tail of BSSM IMHO.

For me, Red Hot Chili Peppers just got better and better by the album. When Slovak died, I thought they were done; then Mother's Milk came out. I didn't think they would make anything better. I must have played MM hundreds of times in the couple of years after it came out and I still love it. Much to my surprise and enjoyment the 2003 remastered edition contained extended versions of two of my favourite tracks from that album, Sexy Mexican Maid and Knock Me Down. Nirvana indeed.

I bought BSSM the week it came out and loved it. Subsequent playings have not diminished my opinion on the album, whereas as Nevermind, also bought the same week, now just feels a bit 'meh'.

Let us not forget that the BSSM recording sessions also gave us 'Sikamikanico' (which sounds more like MM era RHCP to me) as well as the mighty 'Soul to Squeeze'.

Right, I'm off to watch Funky Monks again 😀

WOW that's a bit of a belter sir.

What do all the controls do. Its like the Enterprise control desk. :laugh1:

    Very nice

    Dave

Thanks. Yes, there was a bit of a learning curve.

You can split the pick-up's and control the EQ of each side. That's what the four smaller control knobs and the two micro switches are for.

The other knobs are the standard bass, treble, pan and volume with a further four way knob for the LED's (side, side + red, green or blue).

It really is effortless to play and it sits just right (on me), mainly I would suggest, because of its headlessness.

Oh god I feel rotten for inspiring you to get shot of something so evidently special.

I can only assume you’re going looking for Jamerson’s funk machine or the Bass of doom or something

Please don't feel bad. It was a bit of a wake up call really. I have a few basses that I'm not really using and they could easily be put towards one that I would.

Bizarrely, after our series of messages, I've come out the other side of the vintage Fender phase I was going through.

Any of these would do, but I would rather not have to go to South Korea to get it 😀

  4. I've been very lucky in being able to own many incredible basses in my life, but there are still a few that have eluded me for various reasons.

Partly inspired by @AndyTravis's thread regarding his dream bass, I've decided that life is indeed too short and I'm going after the some of the few that I really want before I croak it.

For sale, a mint condition Status Series 3. No trades as that would defeat the object of selling it in the first place.

The spec on this is as follows:

    • Through neck
    • Headed
    • 4 String
    • Completed December 2016
    • Fretted
    • Woven carbon graphite neck
    • Black phenolic fingerboard
    • 34" scale
    • Standard string spacing (which equates to 19mm)
    • Kevasingo Pomelle top wood
    • Utile back wood
    • Maple Faux binding
    • High gloss polyester finish
    • 2 x soap-bar pick-ups
    • Status 303 circuit board
    • Gold hardware
    • Gold straplocks
    • Single ball end Status Graphite Hex Core 'Hotwire' strings (40-60-80-100)
    • Comes with Status moulded hard case and papers shown
    • The weight of this bass is 9.48lbs

This is a cracking bass that has hardly been touched, let alone rehearsed with and certainly not gigged.

The pictures taken from the side show that there are no scratches south of the G string which is common for high gloss finish basses. It really is a peach.

If you wanted Rob to build you one now it would be just north of £2,900, plus a fairly long wait.

Shipping: I'm happy to ship this bass to any UK address for cost via Basschat's affiliate EUROSENDER

IMO it would be interesting to see how many like myself were completely unaffected by these three supposedly influential albums.

There's nothing on either The Nirvana or RHCP albums that musically excites me (I didn't find them interesting at the time and still don't now) and while I don't think I know anything from that particular Soungarden album, what I've heard from their other albums leads me to suspect that I wouldn't find it enjoyable either.

If I had to pick an album that was important to me in 1991 it would be Massive Attack's "Blue Lines", although by far my favourite record of that year was the Blindfold EP by Curve.

    Oh, go on then 😏

there doesn't seem to be an actual question that we are being asked to answer

I like and have owned all three of the albums since they were released (and have owned several reissued, remixed and remastered versions since - in fact I've just got the new coloured vinyl reissue of Badmotorfinger) and saw two of the bands on those tours (sadly not Nirvana) but for me it depends on what is actually being asked:

    • Most culturally significant?  Nevermind, no contest
    • Best bass playing?  Blood Sugar Sex Magic - again, no contest
    • My personal favourite and the one I've listened to most over time?  Badmotorfinger - again, no contest, but with Nevermind a very close second

And in all three cases, they're not my favourite albums by those bands

The question got lost in me deciding to add the poll 🙄

All subjective I suppose, but the question was ‘what’s your favourite?’.

  7. Most of mine do start life on paper, but as you’ve evidenced, a lot of songs multiplied by a few bands and it easily gets out of hand. I don’t play with some of the bands I dep for regularly enough to remember even half of it, so there has to be an accessible version readily to hand. Songs stretching to two or more pages just complicates things.

  8. Well, I charged it last night and hooked it up to my iPad this morning. Connection took seconds and it works like a dream.

As previously mentioned in the thread, you can configure what the buttons do very easily. It comes set as turn page left and right with the two switches. The page flip is almost instant. Not only that, but paging right scrolls down if it’s more than can fit on the screen at the start and a further click right then moves over to the next song when it reaches the end of the tune. The left button undoes whatever you’ve done with the right. This is using On Song by the way. I’m not sure what other programs do.

Very impressed by the build. Looks bomb proof and is very dinky. Much smaller than I expected, but functionality is not compromised by it.

That made me smile remembering my HX Stomp arriving from Andertons.

The shoebox sized manufacturer's packaging was delivered inside another box that must have been at least a cubic meter in size.

Yes, Anderson’s did that to me with my Line 6 Relay G75. The box was astonishingly large.

I’ve just checked the other much larger box that arrived with the B200S-2 and it’s the wrong product entirely. Someone was having a bad day at Thomann HQ last week I reckon.

  10. @TrevorR - yes, that works a treat. I’ve just scanned a multi page PDF and imported it to OnSong and it’s all there in one file. Quick question and I’ll stop pestering you 😀.

So now it’s in OnSong, the pages are stacked on top of each other instead of scrolling left to right, which is fine. If I get the BT200 and turn the page with that, I assume it instantly goes down to the next whole page or does it scroll down for as long as you have your foot on the switch? I’m hoping it’s the former cos I’m going to want the next bar in front of me fairly pronto.

Scan the A4 pages as a 4 page document rather than as separate files. OnSong will read it that way and treat it as one song you can scroll up and down through. Quite simple...

I think I’ve found where I was going wrong. There is a toggle switch in the scanning app for choosing either JPG or PDF. It was set to JPG which is limited to one page. PDF obviously allows multiples. Thanks @TrevorR 👍
