TUBE compressor ?

hey guys.looking for a tube compressor since im getting into the studio with my band to write our first cd and im looking for a good comp.i have the ebs multicomp right now(http://www.thomann.de/gr/ebs_multi_compressor.htm) but i found the EHX black finger online (http://www.thomann.de/gr/electro_harmonix_black_finger.htm). what do u guys think about it?have any other really good comps to offer?thanks!

The two outboard compressors I rate above all others I have used for bass (and I have tried/got many) are the Summit Audio TLA-50 Tube Leveller which is really punchy and a DBX160A which is really transparent. Both units are really easy to use, which is probably why I can get the most from them, and there is a TLA-50 up for sale on this forum (nothing to do with me):

I've had nothing but amazing results with the blackfinger, I love the sound and I can get exactly the sort of thick punchy compression that I want, and with essentially no noise whatsoever.


BUT I know a lot of people who have had issues with theirs, especially with noise, and in fact mine used to until I corrected it. I was also surprised by the poor build QC I found, including several dry joints (I got it used but it's not that old), a cap which wasn't even soldered in on one side, and another cap which was physically crushed, among other things.


So, even though I love mine and would never get rid of it, I feel somewhat hesitant in recommending it to anyone else. To be honest though, I wouldn't worry too much, as in the studio you'll likely be able to run your bass through very very nice compressors indeed during mixdown -- so there's no need to bring your own!

i was also looking for a tube compressor and just ordered the [url="http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua=en&cat=6&vedi=121"]MarkBass Compressore[/url], hopefully delivered
by tomorrow. It´s a HUGE pedal but got great reviews, [url="http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/markbass.shtml"]read this[/url] and check on talkbass.com for more info.

Had a play on one of these - first compressor pedal I've had any time for at all (yet tohave a crack on the Joe Meek one).
