Genuine Fender Jap Bass?

Hey guys.

I have picked up a Fender P bass, "Made In Japan", not crafted. Its from 1995 with a serial number on the headstock just below the Fender logo that corresponds with the claimed year. However there is no serial number on the heel of the neck which is where i usually see a serial number on. However the neck has the stamp "PB-610R" where the neck is joined the body.

Is this a genuine fender?

Cheers!

Rob.

Yup just got this nugget of information.
Hi Rob,

The reason there ain't no serial on the heel of the neck is because that is a STANDARD model, not the so-called re-issue model. ( Actually, Fender Japan never officially used the suffix "RI" on their models). All STANDARD models have different headstock decal and do not have serial numbers on the heel of the neck. As you can see, the "Precision Bass" decal on the headstock is different from those "RI" models. And lastly, the truss-rod adjustment hole is located on the headstock, not on the neck cavity.
