Being a new member to bass chat i honestly hadn't a clue how anything worked but Stevie quickly let me know how things are done and helped me through the buying process. Very smooth transaction and a shame about it being the Easter Holidays when i purchased this bass Very helpful and reliable member of bass chat and would do business with Stevie again! Rang city link- gave them my postcode and lo and behold no such record exists. apparently it was meant to be sent to me lat tuesday then he last told me the bass had been collected on friday and would be here by this tuesday- not here. WACOJACO Posted November 26, 2012 Share Posted November 26, 2012 the bass stevie sent me is totally f'ed- wont intonate, string spacing rubbish,huge nut, bridge one cm to low, 30 holes in the body where he obviously couldnt fit a scratchplate properly, scratchplate looks like pick up holes were cut with a chain saw, neck set wrong, pickups squire pickups and not japanese fenders, a total botch job that will cost me over 1 hundred quid to make nice. thanks for not returning my calls all messages too ... Please take note of the "string spacing" and the "huge nut"... Just so you all know, the nut is the standard nut that came fitted to the neck and the bridge is a standard 4 brass saddle offset wilkinson bridge from AxesRUs. Pre slotted. How or why would the string spacing be out on a Wilkinson bridge? As you can see, even space either side of the neck. Also, you can see where the back of bridge lines up on the body. The holes the bridge is screwed in to were the ones pre-drilled in to the body. I've also posted a picture of a standard Fender P Bass to show how far back the bridge sits on one of those. Body: Real Fender P Bass: As you see, no difference. Original bridge fitted to the body had 5 back screws and 2 front ones (like this: [url="http://www.jivesound.com/forSale/bassBridge.jpg"]http://www.jivesound.../bassBridge.jpg[/url]) None of which can be seen when the pickguard is on or when the current bridge is on. Also the reason I stated the condition as being "6.5 out of 10" on the listing ([url="http://basschat.co.uk/topic/188909-actually-gone-this-time"]http://basschat.co.u...-gone-this-time[/url]). Who can honestly say they've fitted a new pickguard to a bass and had the holes line up on every single hole each time because I sure as hell haven't. Also noted that I had to widen the bit the ears of the pick up go down in to. I used a soldering iron (all described to Mr Nowicki on the phone although he's naturally going to deny it) to form it back a bit. (note, He said it wouldn't be a problem as he would be keeping the pick up cover over it). That's the only bit i had to work. Doesn't look like a chainsaw has been at it at all. OTT... I can't tell you why I did that as I don't even know myself. I assume tiredness. He reasons for thinking it's a Squier one is because "it has a blue wire which my luthier of 25 years has advised me about" but as I've proven, Fender Japan used blue wires on the pickups during the early 90's. Plus, I was sold the pick up under the pre-tense it was a Fender Japan pick up. Bought it off ebay, paid £30 for it, it sounded good enough so I just took it as that. Sounded different to my usual Seymour Duncan p-ups but that was to be expected. Wouldn't upgrade my basses to the SDs otherwise. I would also just like to add that I tried to set up a claim with CityLink and Parcel2Go about sorting out some problems that happened during transit (looks like the bass was dropped and re-wrapped at the depot as there was the original city link postage label underneath another layer of packaging which wasn't applied by me). Obviously, you have to post photos up to the claim. I asked Adam umptine times for photos of the bass as it was when it arrived. What did I get? 3 photos of the body and neck with all the hardware removed. I asked adam for more photos but he refused and kept telling me to use the ones he sent to which I did. Needless to say, the claim has been rejected as he's completely taken it apart. Busy. Try it some time. Also, never ever EVER did I hang up on Adam when I was on the phone to him. You're dreaming that one up. Again... I'm going to put it out there now that I will not be offering Adam a refund and never will I speak to him again. I would warn anyone else against trading with him too. I removed my feedback from his feedback page but here is what happened over the original payment... Adam had my bank details for 12 days. I sent him the payment details on here and then he copied them on to his phone . I had promise upon promise of "I'll pay you tonight" or "i'll pay you tomorrow morning" or even 3 days without saying a thing to me. Only after I asked John to ask him what was going on did i get a "i'll pay in the morning" message from Adam. This payment didn't materialise for a further 2 days after that. Very VERY dodgy indeed. I only went through with the sale because I needed the money at the time. All in all, i'm not having liar ruin my name on here. I've done too many deals on here to note and only twice encountered a problem which was either resolved by me or the seller/buyer. I'm not going to name names as I don't want them to get involved in this but I've actually had messages from a couple of members on here showing support to my side saying that Mr Nowicki seems like a dodgy character. He is. Steer clear. I shall be posting this to HIS feedback page as well for all to see. Thanks for your time fellow BC'ers. My point is, you clearly have no idea how to build a bass, yet made it sound the dogs danglies on your advert. It doesnt intonate properly, the string spacing is incorrect in the way the bottom E is about twice the distance into the fingerboard than the G because of the fact you haven't set the neck properly. It will cost me 100 quids worth of set up work to make this bass as you described. Thats not including the pups that you lied about. The bridge is 1cm to far down the body, this is why it doesnt intonate one of the machine head ears is broken, the pick up poles do not align with the strings properly, the pick ups are not even straight in the scratch plate, and it came with squire affinity pick ups which you adertised as being real fender pick ups that have red blue and black wires. the body of the bass had 30 holes need filling, yet didnt mention. Now i know why you posted such grainy pics on the advert. Also, making a very high nut and having the saddles flat on the bridge with absolutely no attempt to profile the strings with the neck curve isn't called setting up a bass.. Its called making a dogs dinner out of it. You may well have sold good stuff on here before,as have i and have also bought with good feedback, but this time my friend, you ripped me off and you know it - you could at least send me some money to contribute to the pick ups that i was totally lied to about? WACOJACO Posted December 11, 2012 Share Posted December 11, 2012 (edited) Here we go... stage one of trying to rectify the bass from hell...how many holes can you count here? stage two will be setting the neck properly three will be fitting the bridge in the right place and four will be installing the kent armstrong hot vintage pick ups i bought off a bass chatter here to replace the cheap horrible, low output squier pups stevie told me were fender japan pickups.... I'm still there though I still have had no apology or refund though for a bass i paid for fair and square. At least some justice has been done though. I have now spent £125 on getting this bass right... I have the invoice and work that needed to be done on a receipt from xperience guitars nottingham to prove it- Thats £25 for a new nice new fender scratchplate, £25 on some ken armstrong hot vintage pups off here, (the squire pups with red blue and black plastic covered wires and hardly any winding are in the bin now) and the other £75 was spent on a complete reassembly and setup which included filling 30 holes , moving the bridge 1cm up the body, cutting a new nut, re=setting the neck and sanding the pocket so it woud actually be straight, fixing a broken tuner, etc... the list goes on.So this "amazing" £200 bass actually cost me £320 in the end... In hindsight, should have just bought a second hand fender off here. Ah well, you live and learn. Could I suggest a luthiery course request from Santa for Mr StevieD for Christmas?
