How can I remove glue left by protective film all over pickguard?

I have some stuff that is probably a cousin of the GooGone mentioned already.

DeSolveIt is orangey smelling, may have orange oil in there. As a goo remover it works as the necro bump WD40 poster described. WD40 is probably cheaper.

If I vaguely remember some chemistry, to remove an oily stain it requires an oily dissolving agent or a detergent to break down the oil to make it dissolvable in water.

Do you mean Acetone based nail polish remover ? Asking because lots of npr is now acetone free.

I use acetone for some things but I wouldn't use it on anything plasticy as it's an extremely good solvent (splashed a bit on a PC keyboard when I was removing sticky from some headless bridge tuners, I think it's still usable).
