Second, is paint removal from a Bubinga body really a sensible option?[/quote] Given its a home made paint job I would think it depends on how he's finished it, I would think if you were to strip it back to wood you can kiss goodbye to the dark stain finish these usually have, you'd probbably have to restain it yourself, but I think it looks quite funky as it is! The Bass itself is well made, brass nut, bubinga body. gives good sustain, nice profile on the neck, nice fingerboard, pretty light to sling round your neck. The only thing that lets it down (IMO) is the active pick-ups, which are VERY active, and pick up all the clicks, thumps and everything else that happen in their vicinity. I once had a Sound Engineer (good friend of mine) running ragged, trying to find out what the constant clicking noise was, coming out of his P.A. speakers. I was holding my watch near the pick-ups, and it was transmitting through everything. With him being a good friend, he didn't pummel me senseless when I told him.
