Twigman Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) I thought my GAS had gone with my EBMM Sterling 4HH but I am being tempted by Fender.... I was having a look at the Fender Custom Shop but I find it frustrating that there's no transparency on pricing and there doesn't seem to be any listed dealers in UK who would take my custom order. Then I discovered the Mod Shop. https://uk.fender.com/pages/fender-mod-shop Here you can configure an instrument from a priced menu and place the order online. Fender then build the bass you spec in Corona and ship it to you - it seems to be less than half the price of the custom shop albeit with fewer options. According to uk.Fender.com the prices posted on the website include UK VAT at 20% so there's no risk there. Has anyone here specced a MOD SHOP Fender? How was the experience? Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I like the idea of the mod shop, but the options for hardware etc were far too restrictive for me. I found that (re)building my bitzer precision around a fender replacement neck allowed me to put together an instrument that has my favourite components. Quote
Eric_Wombat Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I have no experience of ordering from either the CS or Mod shop, although tempted by both, but I'm pretty sure there are UK dealers you can order CS basses through, Andertons, Peach, Coda and A Strings are some I've seen listed. Quote
Iheartreverb Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I’ve always thought Mod Shop was pretty cool but also quite expensive for what is essentially old American Pro I spec in a custom colour. As for Custom Shop, any dealer should be able to help you with a price. It’ll involve building the spec with/ for them and it being submitted through Fender in the UK to the states and back again, so can take a little bit. In terms of pricing, trade offered to dealers is likely the same (or similar) the lack Of transparency that you’re discussing is really that fact that the dealer can chose to sell it at what they want. That might be based on sensible/ standard profit margin, full RRP or somewhere in between. Unfortunately there’s not a way to test the waters on CS but based on material, costs etc, they likely vary often anyway. Quote
