adriansmith247 Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 These strings are not made anymore I knew the risks when I got a couple sets on here recently. Maybe it’s just because they are different? But I really like them swapped out my Spiros and all of a sudden my bass is alive again I really like them and want to find a really good replacement set. Looking around I can see people saying a mixed set of Evah E A with Oliv D G or the Evah Slaps with gut DG I have Evah E A I can try but not convinced they are anything like the Animas i have tried Spiro Weich E A with Evah weich D G and worked well but sounded weak compared to the Animas. looking for opinions and advice on strings I can try. thanks Quote
Beedster Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 Ouch, I had the same problem a few years back, not sure I can help much, but I can empathise 1 Quote

Beedster Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 My take on string selection is that they’re one component of a tripartite system - strings, instrument, player. I love Gamuts on my 4/4, and if I play my Evahs the same way on the same instrument they don’t work for me. But if I back right off on the Evahs and use more pad and less bone in the finger, I can get close(r) to that lovely airy tone. I don’t think there’ one string to rule them all, just a moving triangle of parameters 👍 Quote
Beedster Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 Jeez that was really quite pretentious wasn’t it 😂 1 Quote
adriansmith247 Posted November 29, 2025 Author Posted November 29, 2025 Update - they are off. I played in a hot venue and had to tune every song, then I read more about breakages. I have put a set of Evahs on for now until I get the courage to put the Animas back on. Got me thinking I need another bass to try strings.. 1 Quote

Burns-bass Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago What kind of music are you playing and what sound do you want? For a deep, rich sound with a pliable string I found Spiro Solos de-tuned to Orchestral pitch are a great choice. I’ve used mine for over 100 gigs so far and they’ve been faultless. Quote
