tauzero Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Is anyone experimenting with a PiPedal by any chance? Just wondering whether to spend a bit of time putting together something else I won't use. Quote
rwillett Posted October 29 Posted October 29 I looked at this before and it seemed a well thought out project. Sensibly the dev used decent and separate USB Audio hardware and a Web interface. If you have decent usb audio hardware and a pi already, I think it could be a cheap and quick project. The software looks OK as well. I've got the parts just sitting here doing nowt (by chance and not by design) but not really wanted another project to work on. I didn't look into the build tool chain to see what was needed but assumed it would work. I already have a ToneX and a mod dwarf so another modeller seemed overkill for me, especially as it had a separate USB interface, which might be an advantage to some people. Most pi projects seem to use an audio hat and these don't have the quality IMHO. Go for it, I'd be interested in how it works and sounds. Rob Quote
rwillett Posted October 29 Posted October 29 And to really mix things up as well https://github.com/mikeoliphant/stompbox Never built either StompBox or PiPedal. StompBox gets some great writeups from people. Perhaps a winter project over Xmas? Rob Quote
tauzero Posted November 1 Author Posted November 1 Tried the PiPedal on a Pi 5 with a Hifiberry DAC+ but it didn't want to know - not sure why, as I did the correct config amendments and it shows up in aplay. However, from the discussion forum it looks like USB interfaces are the recommended way forward, so I've decided not to waste any more of my life on that - it'll get put to other purposes. I've got a Presonus Studio 24c incoming to play with so I don't have to start unwiring the other USB interfaces I have littering the house. More news next week sometime. Quote
tauzero Posted November 4 Author Posted November 4 Presonus Studio 24c connected to Pi 5 and recognised straight away. Configured to 48kHz sample rate, 64/4 for buffers, showing a latency of 5.3mS. Now I've got to work out how to connect something up to the input and the output, with everything precariously balanced on my desk and my chair occupied by my circular saw until I can get the new blade for it and take it back to the shed (the floor is fully occupied). Things will get better once Mrs Zero gives me the go-ahead to move into Sub Zero's former room. 1 Quote
rwillett Posted November 4 Posted November 4 How have you stolen my desk and all my stuff? At least it's now tidier than when I had it. Rob Quote
bobbass4k Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Might be a stupid question but how does audio out work? You connect the USB interface to the Pi for input, are you then limited to the audio out jack from the Pi for output or can you configure the app to send audio to USB which you can then connect back to your DAW PC, essentially using the Pi as a pedal? The documentation doesn't seem to answer it or show a signal chain, and all the setup pictures just seem to show the USB input and power connected to the Pi.... Quote

From the site, my bold emphasis "You may also need to choose which audio input and output channels you will use for guitar signals, once you have selected and configured an audio device. Many external USB audio devices that have two inputs provide the guitar signal on the right channel only, so you will set the audio input channels to “Right Only”. If your USB audio adapter has more than two input or output channels, you will be offered a list of channels to choose from." Quote

Input and output are both from the audio interface, the signal gets passed into and out of the Pi via USB. Quote

Riiiight, that's what was confusing me, so you essentially lose the ability to use the USB interface as a USB interface. Not the end of the world but definitely makes it more complicated. Quote

Not the end of the world but definitely makes it more complicated. Now I'm confused. What are you losing here? The USB on the PreSonus is connected to one of the four USB interfaces on the Pi 5 (or 4). So you still have three USB interfaces left on the Raspberry. The other interface on the Presonus is in use as it's doing the I/O to the Pi which is what it should be doing. @tauzero wants to use the Presonus interface What am I missing? Rob Quote
