Nothing intrinsically wrong with Fender basses, but why would I buy one when I can buy one of these instead?

Take a good look at the Fender headstock (and I own one) That massive swelling that we've all become accustomed to serves what purpose exactly? It's far from a work of art to my eyes but hey 😂 It almost looks comical when I glance over at one of my Warwicks.

Show me a Fender that looks better.

On second thought, don't bother...even their custom shop basses aren't quite as nice.

Is this the same bass you're now selling in the classifieds with a different pickguard?

Oh I've just seen it's a spare white pickguard on the same bass.

I realise anyone stating 'best bass I've ever played' is opening themselves to scepticism (but every bass player has played a 'best bass ever' even if they've only ever played one).

I do find the rash of "have ever tried a bass that isn't a Fender" comments both patronising and a touch pathetic.

In my own experience, I've played a lot of basses and my love for a 'different' feel means it's hard for me to call any if them 'best'. I do know that I've met many disappointing ones, and a few of those were Fenders but plenty have been 'elite' brands whose reputation didn't meet my expectations.

It's so subjective though... more than once I've been offered a try of someone's pride and joy and found it totally alien to my tastes.

You mean the traditional design Fender adopted?

Well as I said, taste is subjective.

I personally know musicians that literally won't even noodle for 5 minutes on a non Fender product. The OP didn't seem fussed at all when I asked,in fact he just calmly answered and everybody just moved on but you are entitled to your opinion. He only listed Fender type products in his original post.
