Ampeg SGT-DI question, and interference issue with 5.8Ghz wireless.

Ive been looking at this preamp but getting conflicting advice about the SVT/B-15 switch.

A mate has one and says he never uses the Grit side, but can hear a difference between the two modes. Reviews say this switch only affects the Grit side.

Can anyone confirm what is going on with this switch please.

I've not had one for a while, but used to use it a lot. As I recall, the knob on the far left is the volume and compression, which only applies to the signal when you activate the preamp switch, and the knob on the far right is the volume and grit (distortion), that only applies to the signal when you activate the SGT switch (which gives you the B-15 tube tone). When the SGT switch is off, the volume/grit knob does nothing to the signal.

The B15/SVT only affects the Grit side. Part of the reason I ditched it is because of having to always hit no try footswitch we just to turn the B15 sound on. That and the stupidly high treble frequency (10kHz if I recall correctly).

Thanks for the replies. Im really only asking if the SVT/B-15 switch does anything with the SGT switch off, but good to get some real world impressions.

Apologies, yo humean the little position switch! As I recall it did nothing, along with the volume/grit knob when the SGT foot switch was not enabled. Hopefully someone that still has one will come along soon and confirm.

As said, it does nothing. It’s the control for the SGT voice so if the SGT side is off it has no effect.

Thanks. Ive since made my mate actually try it and he now confirms I was right.

Very tempted to get one.

I’ll just leave this here then 😜

Yeah i did go and look eariler. Good price, i wouldn't hesitate other than i have a knack of buying things and sending them back.

2 things are holding me back. Size and gain got get rid of the Nux, that ive brought twice in the past  6 weeks.

The size thing isnt really a deal breaker, but the pockets on my Bass bag are pretty full. The Nux sits nicely in the headstock pocket. I can see the SGT wouldn't fit in there. This could well be GAS that goes wrong.

I’ll keep you in mind though.

Well, i went and brought one new, and glad i did. 15mins later its boxed up and going back.

Maybe i don’t understand what the Ampeg sound is, but i couldn't really get a tone i liked as much as the Nux. But thats not the deal breaker.

What is was the fact that with the Preamp and SGT  bypassed, and IR on (any IR),  and my Lekato 5.8Ghz wireless plugged in, i was getting a lot of digital interference/noise. A huge amount. Used with a cable or even my old Xvive 2,4 system it was fine. Tried different PUS’s and in different rooms. This was on all outputs, even headphones.

I think in the real world its not a problem id never not have the Preamp engaged, but at this price thats too big a ‘niggle’, especially as im not over the moon with the tone either.

Might try the EBS Microbass 3 next, but it seems the Nux may well be around for a while.
