Phaedrus01 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I've got a roasted swamp ash body with the graphite necks name on it. Single humbucker route in the music man sweet spot. Any guesses what I'm making? 4 Quote

Interesting how several of us are going down the same route and creating something unique. 😎 Mine is a sort of Vintage & Modern theme - taking the things I like best from my walnut Status S2-Classic and my workhorse American Original 60's Jazz. Typically, you can't get the Fender Pure Vintage 64 pickups anymore, but I've already got a set of the 66's (from the current Am.Vintage II) in another bass. So in keeping with the '66 theme, I've ordered some Gotoh lollipop tuners in black, like the rest of the hardware. Edited September 22 by HeadlessBassist Quote

Phaedrus01 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Ding, ding ding! I've got a Fender version of the Badass bridge, Hipshot ultralights, an OBP-1 and the pickup from the Fender Active Flea already. Will basically be a Fender Flea Active with a graphite neck. Will be interesting to see what the difference is compared to the wooden ones. I don't want to go down the tonewood(or tone-composite) rabbit hole but I have a wooden necked stingray and a graphite necked stingray and IMO it's chalk and cheese! Apart from clearly superior tuning stability (I've got an Emerald Solid Graphite Weave acoustic that I haven't had to tune at all in years) I do think graphite necks clearly change the sound. Would be really interesting in doing a blind A/B and seeing if I could call them correctly. Quote
Phaedrus01 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Also headless I've got the Fender Pure Vintage 64 in a Jazz bass I built and they are my favourite pickups ever. Also worth saying that is an absolutely stunning piece of Walnut! 1 Quote

Yes, the graphite will give you that 'shimmer' to the attack/sustain, and hopefully the 'PEEK' composite fingerboard will give a very tight sound, much like the percussive 'tonk' you get from an ebony board, or from a phenolic fingerboard. Thanks Phaedrus, yes I was playing my American Original this afternoon, and it just has the deepest and richest Jazz sound ever. @Silky999's walnut body does look a bit special, doesn't it? It's long been my favorite wood for a bass. Again, the Walnut S2 that I've had for eighteen years just has a sound like nothing else, and that includes my Stealth 2 & KingBass Mk-II. Quote

HeadlessBassist Posted Saturday at 07:10 Posted Saturday at 07:10 They're looking very good, Kiwi! Sounds like we're getting there... Btw, is it okay if I have mine sent directly to @Silky999? He'll be doing the final build of the Graphite-Walnut Jazz. Quote
Kiwi Posted Saturday at 09:08 Author Posted Saturday at 09:08 I haven't firmed up the shipping logistics only because it depends on how much the final necks and packaging actually weigh. But yes, I can substitute any sender address you wish when we get to that point. 1 Quote

I've gone for the full AUROK branding on the front. Flying the flag for this excellent venture, as it were. I've also had the body logo'd with MGCS Basses, in order to promote @Silky999's excellent work too. 8 minutes ago, WalMan said: Ooooh had another thought... somewhere here I have a Kent Armstrong pup in a Wal pup cover 🤔 I just ordered another set of the Fender Pure Vintage 66's today, and the Gotoh black lollipop tuners. 2 Quote
