Bass body size

 So a 4 string p bass and a 5 string p bass of the same brand /model. 

Are the bodies of the same basses the same sizes or different?
 

I have 4 and 5 strings but not of the same bass so I can’t tell from my gear.

Don't know, but I assume the neck pocket will be different at least.

Yes the neck pocket will be because of the additional string. 
I’m asking about the body dimensions.

This depends on the brand. ESP 6-string was really wide, like a table. I do not see an issue using a 4-string body with wider necks. Less wood may equal lighter body, too.

Really thinking about using a 4 string p bass body and adding a five string neck, obviously the pocket will require work.

Nothing at all on Fenders website regarding body dimensions. 

A couple of phone calls later  to Wunjo and Regent Sounds confirmed they are identical except for the neck pocket.

As you say above, I'm pretty sure the body dimensions for a Fender 4 and 5 are identical.  That said, from a functional point of view, it actually doesn't matter anyway if what you are planning is to do the work to fit a 5-string neck...the body is really just a convenient way of holding the neck, the bridge, the pickups and controls in their correct places - beyond that, it can be pretty much any shape or size

 

If you are planning to fit a 5 string neck, don't forget the pickup routs and bridge fittings will also need to be changed too to accommodate the 5 string pickups and bridge.

Thanks Andy I wasn’t sure and I thought it would be online somewhere but it was easier to go the old route and simply pick up the phone. 
It’s something I’ve had in my head for a while so probably won’t happen anytime soon.  Too many other random ideas 😄
