What is it that I want!? Ampeg, Ashdown...?

It sounds like you've pretty much made your mind up, but another vote for an ABM600 here. I gigged an Ampeg PF500 for years and it was good, but the Ashdown just sounds so much better to my ears. Much more versatile, articulate, easier to carry (yes, it's heavier but it has a handle!) and the valve drive really adds a bit of warmth and character. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

That makes sense. In fact, GK have the most highs I've ever seen on a bass amp! Even on their DI out.

But again, it's clearly not for all the use cases :)

I've played my Strat through my GK MB 800 and it sounds great through a 12 inch cab with a tweeter. All the highs you'd ever need.

I've not played guitar through my ABM......I should try it some day.

Update - brought the Ashdown ABM 600 Evo IV (20th Anniversary, hand wired/made in UK).

It SLAMS!! loving the EQ, a couple of small tweaks and you go from full Motown to zingy rumble straight from bass to amp.

Now I feel I need a bigger Barefaced than my BB2, hoping that shall resolve soon too! Thanks everyone for your help...!
