Raslee Posted October 6, 2022 Share Posted October 6, 2022 Bought a 70’s P electrics kit off eBay to replace my crackling 74 pots. Bit of an oddity on the new kit - volume tapers off super quick - bit like an on/off and the tone is like a volume - no tone change. Very weird! Any thoughts? paul_5 Posted October 6, 2022 Share Posted October 6, 2022 (edited) If the volume is acting like an on/off switch then it sounds like the volume pot has a linear taper instead of logarithmic. Raslee Posted October 9, 2022 Author Share Posted October 9, 2022 Sorry the late reply - it didn't come with a wiring diagram unfortunately. I have wired as per the previous wiring and know may way around the wiring a bit. They are A pots, and whilst now sounding a little better than previous, I'm still not overly impressed. I've emailed the eBay seller - yet to hear back from them. The tone appears to be the main issue now - whilst acting more like a tone pot now there is a significant volume drop when all the way down. I know this happens to a certain extent but I've not had a P where the volume has dropped this significantly.
